instead of plastic toys that he doesn’t play with, last year I started putting different holiday/winter themed activities. Bake and decorate cutouts, make a gingerbread house (I pick one of those up after Christmas when they are half off, we never eat them anyway), write a soldier a letter, build a snowman, read A Christmas Carol out loud, cut out paper snowflakes etc.
The goal is to set aside time *that* day to do them. Not let them pile up. This way we are making sure to spend quality time together.
