Heat the cap with a lighter for a few seconds. It will slide right off. Hold the other end with a pair of pliers so you don't burn your fingers.

Ok sweet!! I really appreciate the advice :) I'm in the car going to see family, so in about an hour n a half I will try :)

Ok so here is my Phoenix clone with a fuse tube in it and a 30g nichrome 1.8 ohm wrap... This thing shoots vapor out the top!! juice too though , im working that out. Hasn't burned me yet but the top gets really hot. Taste is good and the vapor is nice but i need to improve it more. Still having trouble with coil connections as i don't have the parts right now that i want to use.

Okay this stuff is the real deal. Flavor has gotten really good. The juice is coming out steamed instead of grilled. Very very very clean vape. I like it, thanks Dan. Can't wait to get the proper tubing so I can set this up right. For now though the glass fuze is working for me nicely.

I'm still wondering what I could be doing wrong.
The flavour seems to be that of a very bad case of a new setup but it doesn't want to go away. Tried both a new and a seasoned mesh.
Same results.
I leave vapor production aside for the moment because it seems to be subjective.

I didn't want to just wait for my tubes so I went out to my "find something that works stores", Ace Hardware, Lowes, and Radio Shack. I ended up buying a diamond cutoff wheel for my dremel tool and two krypton flashlight bulbs. The bulbs are still a bit too big and the walls too thick I think but I was able to produce a glass insulated SS wick for my Phoenix. The glass tube I got out of the bulb was really too short and my wick too small this first go around. It produced lots of vapor but the pressure of the heating juice shot the SS wick right out of the tube. I just made a vapor missile!

Thanks for the advice bro! What size glass fuse did you use? The smallest one I could find at radio shack was a size called .5 x20mm

Honestly man I don't know. The OD was not listed on the package, I just got the smallest one I could find, and it was still too big. It is working, but this is obvious to me it is gonna be grand with the proper sized tubing. Just did some good ole fashioned Redneckin'. From georgia ya know.

I couldn't wait either so bring in the clones! At 8 bucks I wasn't afraid to mess it up a little :) I got my fuses at Autozone and it was a pack of 8 for like 3 or 4 bucks, their short and no cutting involved, about 5.6mm OD

Place a small piece of cotton in the drip tip.

To those of you who have been trying this out, are you using solidly rolled wicks or wicks with an interior hole? Is the vapor coming out between the pyrex and the wick and/or through the hole in the center of the wick? Is the juice popping out between the tube and the mesh and/or the hole in the center of the wick?

Initially my flavor was very muted, I just kept tilting till the juice started to wick better. What kind of set up do you have?

My wick is pretty solid, but a loose roll. Vapor appears to be coming strait out of the wick from all areas, not just from the small center hole. My tube is above the tank so some vapor is coming from below the coil as well, but most is steam piping from the top.

Hmmm, interesting. The vapor is just "oozing out" from all over in the mesh...that's pretty cool. It's great seeing this unfold in real time, and I can't wait until I get a chance to try it out.

This is awesome. Subscribed. Maybe if capillary/pressure is figured out, I won't need any stainless mesh at all.
Thanks ScubaDan, I had finished read...wait.. crap.. a glass plate just exploded in my microwave. Maybe if I eat some glass it will build up an immunity to inhaling it!
anyway... I had finished reading your old thread with the glass tube a while back, and was contemplating messing with it. Well, now Im in.

Recap on the Pheonix clone. This thing gets really hot! Most likely because of the coils proximity to the wall of the metal topcap. Should work better when I get my glass in, I'm using an automotive fuse body thats way to big but I couldnt wait. It takes a few seconds to warm up and get going but after that its steadily putting out vapor. Taste is great too. Wish I had some better glass to work with right now:(
