Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I was wondering about the Tab as well, I'll have to try that out next time. Well I just went ahead and ordered a 50ml of the Dekang RY4 from madvapes, I didn't want to order that much but 50ml for $11 is a great deal. The way I see it, if I like it awesome, if not then there are enough people here that do, I'm sure I could just trade for some other juices.

Hey guys, I know there a ton of great websites here but I just cannot make up my mind! What would be the best RY4 to go with for somebody who hasn't ever tried this flavor before, one that would closely resemble all the hype surrounding the famous pedigree of RY4? I see a lot of talk about the Dekang version but I only have seen it in 50ml. I'm only about 2 weeks into vaping and my first order of a chinese 50ml bottle was a bad experience for me. My funds are tight so my goal is to find a good RY4 without having to go broke, lol. Any ideas of a place I could get a few different versions of the RY4 to try out without having to go to multiple places? I've found a bunch of tobacco samplers but nothing with an RY4 variety.

Janty Ry4.

Curiously, the Top 10 on the Big List may not be the best place for you to start, since many of the RY4s at the very top of the rankings are so distinctive that they actually transcend the "classic" flavor profile for RY4.

I see a lot of talk about the Dekang version but I only have seen it in 50ml. I'm only about 2 weeks into vaping and my first order of a chinese 50ml bottle was a bad experience for me. My funds are tight so my goal is to find a good RY4 without having to go broke, lol.

Yeah, ordering juices can get pricey real fast. For those of us who come to regard vaping as both a hobby and a passion, the sky's the limit with how much one can spend. I've bought or made more than 8 liters of juice over my 15 months of vaping. Add to that more than 20 eGo batts, 40 mod PVs, about 300 atties, cartos, tanks, etc., 150 batteries and chargers, and endless other hardware supplies. Even with most of that being purchased on sale or at the lowest possible prices, the total is well, staggering. Even I am shocked at how much money I've spent. And I'm probably not even in the Top 20 spenders on ECF, though I might be in the Top 100. I was in a position to afford that in 2011, but I'm gonna have to pull back in 2012.

I see that you've already made your decision and ordered a 50ml bottle of Dekang RY4 from Madvapes. Congratulations. That's a good choice.

I hope you ordered your 50ml bottle from Madvapes' China E-Liquids page, presumably in the 24mg version they have in stock, since that page contains juices that come pre-mixed straight from Dekang. On the other hand, if you bought a 50ml bottle from the Custom China E-Liquid page, word is that Madvapes gets those bottles from another supplier, not straight from Dekang, and in the past some ECF posters have felt that those were different from "real" Dekang, and not nearly as good.

Either way, I hope you like it.

Any ideas of a place I could get a few different versions of the RY4 to try out without having to go to multiple places? I've found a bunch of tobacco samplers but nothing with an RY4 variety.

Interesting thought. The vast majority of vendors sell only one version of RY4. Numerous vendors offer two RY4s, usually one "standard" and one "custom" version. As far as I know, however, no single "clearinghouse" vendor exists that carries many different RY4s. But then, few vapers would want to order five or ten different RY4 formulations at once. Maybe only you and me. LOL.

Highbrow Vapor is a new vendor and very much a class act. Well, let me rephrase that. Highbrow excels at what capitalism is so good at---creating in the mind of the customer the illusion of class and high-quality. Highbrow achieves this effect through an aesthetic and well-designed web site, using a graphic motif of hand-drawn art nouveau fonts and artwork showing the profile of 19th-century Victorian gentleman in a top hat (which is repeated on the bottle’s well-printed label).

The Highbrow web site contains ample information about the vendor and its limited line of artisan-crafted juices, with an entire page devoted to listing all the ingredients of each juice offered. Packaging of the shipment is exemplary, the best I’ve ever seen. Inside the obligatory bubble wrap, the bottles are wrapped in brown butcher’s paper and tied with some kind of faux corn husk twine, with much the same care that one might package an expensive perfume or other high-end knick-knack type gift. This is, of course, meaningless in terms of the juice, but a very nice touch. The intention and overall effect of all this is to give the impression of tradition, status, excellence, and class privilege. It’s so well-done that I was quite easily seduced.

Specs: The 30ml bottle of Highbrowbacco RY4 I purchased for review is a pale-caramel-colored liquid (quite beautiful, actually) in an all-VG base (or, more technically 10/90 PG/VG, since the tobacco flavoring is made with an all-PG base) at 24mg nic strength. The juice was tested by dripping with a 1.5 ohm Joye 306 atty powered by a freshly-charged Hello 016 battery providing 4.2 volts for 11.7 watts, and also loaded into a 2.2 ohm X7 Micromizer carto powered by a Madvapes VV box providing 4.5 volts for 9.2 watts.

I’ve been writing recently about the two forks of the RY4 stream: the classic RY4s of Chinese origin, which share a common flavor profile and are usually good quality blends, but more similar to each other than different; and the more creative but idiosyncratic American RY4s, which vary widely and wildly in terms of both flavor and quality. Highbrowbacco RY4 is American through and through, and very good to boot.

The flavorings used are limited and high-quality---just tobacco, caramel, and vanilla. Nothing else that I can taste. What sets Highbrow RY4 apart, and a definite cut above most of its Chinese competitors and American cousins, is the complexity and sophistication of its tobacco base. As with Mom&Pop’s and Moondrop’s RY4s, I taste Tobacco Absolute here (which I love). But there’s something else as well---a slight liquor-like tanginess, which is decidedly reminiscent of QuickNic RY4, though more subtle. The combination is quite wonderful and dominant in the flavor profile, with the tobacco singing the melody while caramel and vanilla remain in the background to add harmonies. The juice has surprising sweetness that lingers after exhale, but it’s definitely not dessert sweet.

I’m beginning to think that with Mom&Pop, Moondrop, and now Highbrow, we’re witnessing the birth of a new generation of RY4s that honor the lineage (meaning that they don’t add extra ersatz flavors like chocolate or maple that can disrupt the RY4 flavor profile), but instead focus on extraordinary tobacco to push the flavor envelope in creative ways.

One curious note: On the ingredients page, each juice lists all the ingredients of each juice---bases, nic, and flavorings. Highbrowbacco RY4, however, lists only a single flavor ingredient, called “tobacco flavoring.” No caramel, no vanilla listed as flavorings---despite their clear presence in the juice. The other four Highbrowbacco tobacco blends follow suit, listing only tobacco as a flavoring. I’m not sure what that means, but it’s the only odd thing I noticed in an otherwise superlative presentation of both the juice and vendor.

Friends, I’m thrilled to report that (in my personal opinion, which counts for something, since I am, after all, the guy who does the rankings…) we’ve got a new Top 10 prizewinner here. Highbrow has produced a distinctive and delicious RY4. It may not be to everyone’s liking, since it is far from a classic RY4, but Highbrowbacco RY4 should please tobacco connoisseurs immensely.

HighbrowVapor is indeed a class act and a welcome new addition to the vaping marketplace. I look forward to sampling many of their other juices.

Two criteria are used for these rankings. The first is my own totally subjective personal opinion, meaning what I like and don’t like. That constitutes about 80% of the ranking. The other 20% comes from my assessment of the general popularity of a given RY4. If it’s wildly popular, that will improve somewhat whatever ranking I’d otherwise give it based on my personal reaction.

Each RY4 on the Ranking List is now followed by a numbered post, which is the original review of that juice. So, if you want to read my initial opinions about any RY4 on the list, now you don’t have to wade through 100 pages to find the review.

If you might base a buying decision on this post, look to the Category Groups rather than the Rankings, since the Categories are a more objective (meaning less opinionated) and reliable guide to RY4s you might like.

The Top 10 underwent a major shakeout this time, with two caramel rich RY4s dropping in the rankings significantly in favor of better balanced or stronger tobacco RY4 flavor profiles. This shift undoubtedly reflects my own evolving palate. (If someone had told me two months ago---or two weeks ago, for that matter---that I would drop both Vaperite VR4 and PrimeVaping PV4 out of the Top 10, I wouldn’t have believed it, but here we are, and there they go…)

I am reviewing these together, as they are very similar. Parkes Vaping's PV4 has a nice rich caramel, and Revolver's Ry4 leans more toward the vanilla. But both have that Koolaid sweetness. They seem to be sweetened with sugar (but is probably cotton candy flavor).
When they were fresh, both tasted like a Chinese juice. Although they lost much of that through steeping, I would still guess them to be Chinese if I didn't know better. Maybe they are thinned with PGA. Whatever it is, it does distract from their potential. PV4 is the better of the two, and will continue to be in my rotation. The Revolver is on its way to billherbst. Hopfully he will like the Koolaid sweet version of their RY4.

Either way, I hope you like it.
YEah going through the list makes it tough and like you mentioned I was looking for a classic flavor and decided to skip those listed. I do want to try the BWB RY4 because of the hype around it and will have to give it a shot sometime soon.

I'm shocked at how much juice you go through, I'd love to just browse your collection, I'm drooling just thinking about it, LOL. If you ever need somebody to help you lighten your load, come find me! Thanks for your help bro, I think you really understood my question the best.

I also heard that before in regards to the custom china version of the Dekang and I made sure to order the premixed version that is the 24mg. Thanks again for the help, happy vaping to ya!

I have some Highbrow RY4 in the Classifieds good price if anyone wants to try it...

passer,

Not your cup of tea, eh? Well, it happens.

I discovered an error in my review of Highbrow RY4 that needs correcting. I discovered the error on a random visit to the RY4 page of Highbrow to make sure the link in the review worked. There it was, right in the description:

"This is perhaps our most sought after tobacco flavored juice. We use our own vanilla bean infusion as well as premium caramel and cocoa flavorings to produce just enough sweetness to match a bold underlying tobacco flavor. The flavors blend to create a smooth, slightly sweet and nutty inhale with a robust tobacco punch on exhale."

During the testing process, I must have suffered a brain fart. What I mistook to be a slight liqueur-like tanginess in the flavor profile was incorrect. What I was actually tasting was, in fact, cocoa. Don't know how I could have confused the two tastes, but I did.

I'm shocked. But there it is, right in the description, and there it is, right in the flavor of the juice: a very slight hint of cocoa, not overtly chocolately, since it's more dry than creamy, not quite like unsweetened baker's chocolate (which is almost astringent), but not fudgey, either. It's more like the long-lost childhood memory of Cocoa Puffs cereal, but not as strong or artificial.

Early on in this thread, we had a discussion of flavors that were suited to RY4 versus flavors that weren't. The consensus of opinion and my staunch insistence was that chocolate was right out. Not permitted. Caramel? Yes. Vanilla? Yes? Nuts? Yes? Cotton Candy or Marshmallow? Yes. Maple? Maybe. Chocolate? No. Ah, but now these many months later, I have just ranked at #3 an RY4 that contains cocoa.

So which is right? Should Highbrow RY4 be banished, sent packing down to #33 because it has a forbidden flavoring? Or should I recant and issue a retraction of my former dogma?

I think the truth may lie somewhere between those extremes. As I vape it today---tasting the cocoa---I still think that Highbrow RY4 is a superb example of what RY4 can be. I also fear that I may have erred in ranking it at #3, which is probably too high. I'll wait and see on that, but meanwhile I'll remove Highbrowbacco RY4 from the Liqueur category and add it to the Nutty category.

Stay tuned for more reviews from the resident Bozo. LOL.

Not long ago, I received two samples from NewEraVaping.
New Era Vaping : New Era Vaping
RY4 is described on their site, "A sweet nutty flavor with a hint of tobacco." What I got was a heavy caramel tobacco, with a bit of vanilla and nut. Although the caramel is strong, the predominate flavor is the tobacco. NewEra uses a synthetic tobacco that leans more to cigar than cigarette. It is a rich, flavorful tobacco that reminds me of Black and Mild. Very clean flavor, and plenty of it. If you like an earthy strong tobacco with a sweet background, I would suggest giving NewEraVaping's RY4 a try.

New Era is the second flavor I received. Described as, "New Era is our signature blend of sweet, smokey, and subtle tabacco [sic] flavors." And Albert (View Profile: WorldsBest - E-Cigarette Forum) said, "This is our own twist on the RY4." about their New Era juice. I found this flavor to be a cocoa (although billherbst may say liqueur) and nut tobacco, with a sweet tang of caramel and vanilla. The tobacco is again a strong, synthetic cigar-styled blend that tastes very good. It will cure any analog cravings you might have. This blend reminds me of BackWoodsBrew's Casablanca. It is a very good blend, and well suited to be their signature flavor.

Overall, I am impressed with the samples I received from NewEraVaping. Although the tobacco is the same in these two juices, they are very different. Both are good.

4) Crystal Clear Vaping RY4. 85% VG.
5) KickBassVapor RY4.
6) Joogler Juice Joogler's Blend. Floral, but very good.

Halo Tribeca.
Very much not for me.

I ranked the RY4s I have tried, to show that everybody has different tastes. billherbst is very good at describing what he likes and misses with each blend. My taste buds are just different (and not nearly as refined).

Numbers one and two are very safe in their rankings. Numbers three thru eleven are interchangable. After that comes the PIF flavors.

More info (with revelations) about Highbrow RY4.

I received an email from Bryan at HighbrowVapor clarifying the Highbrowbacco RY4 ingredient questions. Because it was a personal email, I won't share the entire content, just the relevant parts that I feel are appropriate for public consumption.

Turns out that the cocoa flavoring Highbrow uses---which is exclusive to their RY4---is a proprietary extract from a homemade cocoa liqueur. Aha! How cool is that? Seems my palate wasn't so far off after all. In fact, I was right both times, first on my own and then with the help of Highbrow's RY4 page description. The flavor is cocoa, it is liqueur , and the two tastes (which are really a single flavoring ingredient) are quite subtle and unique.

In addition, Highbrow's tobacco blend juices are listed the way they are on the ingredients page because of certain obscure and unresolved legal issues involving tobacco extracts and flavorings. I presume this has to do with the FDA and the gray area of tobacco as a regulated nicotine source, but it's nice to know the skinny on that one.

Wow. So much remains hidden from view in the world, whether intentionally or not, that it's very satisfying in those rare instances when we get answers to certain questions about reality, especially when the confirmation is straight from the horse's mouth. That's happened before in this thread, with the history of the whole "original" Janty RY4 and "lost" Dekang RY4, and it pleases me immensely.

Thanks so much, Bryan! I can vape Highbrow RY4 even more happily now. Also, knowing how special that extra ingredient is inclines toward my praising Highbrow for their creativity rather than docking them for pushing the flavor envelope. I don't have to remove Highbrow RY4 from the Liqueur category, and my high ranking is of less concern, since my respect for the careful craftsmanship that went into creating this distinctive RY4 is even more than before.

passer,

Not your cup of tea, eh? Well, it happens.

Well I do not like that tobacco flavor, I am not saying its the same as others, but it just seems familiar to me.
Please let me know your opinion of it before I order some, pass. After reading bill's review, I am ready to order some. What does it remind you of?

I recieved my order of RY4 from Highbrow last Saturday, and have been using it exclusively ever since. IMHO, it's a more tobacco and nuttier taste to me. It only has the faintest hint of some sweetness to it. I don't percieve much vanilla or carmel at all. It's there, but very faint. I have W2V's version, which is extremely sweeter and less cleaner (?) tasting to me. As usual YMMV, but I'm very pleased with Highbrow's version.
