VermillionRiverEjuice is one of my two favorite suppliers, the other being NiteLiteVapor. I have two reasons for liking VermillionRiver so much. One is the fact they are located in Apple Valley, a second-tier suburb south of St. Paul, Minnesota (Vermillion River isn't just a made-up name; it's an actual river in Dakota County). I lived in the Twin Cities for 25 years of my adulthood, so I feel a certain sentimental loyalty to Minnesota. The other reason is Kentucky Premium Blend, my #1 most-loved tobacco juice of all time (although GoodEjuice Vita Bella has mounted a serious challenge for the top spot). Kentucky Premium is the base flavor that continues to spawn an increasing merry band of offspring variants: Kentucky Amaretto, Applewood, Blend No. 7, Cherrywood, Maplewood, Peachwood, and Kentucky Vanilla. And now KY4.
The 4.5ml sample bottle of KY4 that I received as a freebie in my last juice order (VR usually includes a free sample with each order) is a medium-golden colored liquid using an unspecified blend of base PG and VG (Id guess roughly 70/30 PG/VG) at 10mg nic strength. I added a little 36mg liquid nic to raise the juices nicotine concentration to 16mg, diluting the liquid from full strength by about 15%. Thats probably a punishable offense for a reviewer to do, but it was either that or vape it at 10mg, for which my palate is decidedly unaccustomed. After weighing the alternatives, I chose to commit the crime and slightly dilute the juice. Testing was done using a 2.8 ohm X7 Micromizer powered by a Madvapes VV box providing 5.0 loaded volts for a power output of 8.92 watts.
I feel that the hangdudes review of KY4 nailed it, and that I can add little of substance, except for my characteristic long-windedness (LOL). KY4 does indeed taste like Kentucky Vanilla to which has been added a nicely restrained but rich caramel, and (to my palate, anyway, since the hangdude didnt mention it) an extra shot of nutty flavor. Im not sure its peanut (might be), but dont think its more hazelnut (which Ive always believed to be a very subtle component of the Kentucky Premium base). Whatever nut it is, I like it.
KY4 is, of course, a custom rather than classic RY4. Unlike some custom recipes, however, KY4 doesnt shatter the classic flavor profile. Instead, it pushes gently at the limits while remaining in the fold of classics basic core flavors: tobacco, caramel, vanilla, and (optionally) nuts. No rhubarb, chocolate fudge, or other weirdo flavor additions. In other words, KY4 is a custom RY4 with classic sensibilities. On top of that, its smooth and delicious.
I might suggest that KY4 is subtle, but that could be due to the dilution of my sample. What I can attest for sure is that its good, and I like it. But then, Ive already admitted to being a big Kentucky Premium fan, so what else would we expect? If I vaped RY4s on a daily basis, KY4 could easily become an all-day vape, but since I dont vape RY4s on a daily basis anymore, thats just blowing smoke for the review.
Since Ive already added some nicotine to this sample, Ill probably end up adding more caramel and vanilla, along with a higher nic shot of my DIY Kentucky Premium. That will complete the travesty of my taking something Thats already really good and messing with it. But then, might as well be shot for a sheep as for a lamb, as they say.
I will happily add VermillionRiver KY4 to the Big RY4 List the next time its posted.
