I'm getting one of those "call alert thingies" very soon!!!!! I need one out here. If I go down and can't get to my cell phone I'm in real trouble!!!! (We have very little flat land; mostly steep slopes and drop offs.) My third documented concussion was when some GIANT, enthusiastic young Bubs knocked me off a 12 ft drop off. Ten days later my mule threw me, out on the lonely, dark road, for documented concussion #4. Even getting on a step stool is dangerous for me now with the migraine vertigo I have. I ain't too proud to wear one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW.... Good Day Fine REO Folk.

Hugs, Feisty Alice

Feisty...your nickname seems very appropriate,lol...thrown by a mule!

I keep getting calls from recruiters every day....I'm trying to wait to find exactly what I'm looking for because I've been having my resume submitted to Chrysler quite a bit. They get 100s of resumes sooooo it's a wait. My unemployment stopped so I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Thanks Lisa! I haven't been myself lately...really antisocial. My girl friend I hardly saw since she got a bf has been trying to get me to come out and I haven't even been leaving the house. It's cruddy.

Geez, Kristin...I'm sorry it's rough. I know how that gets...and how hard it is to get motivated to just leave the house. When I get to feeling that way, I will force myself out....grab a book or a notebook and go to the nearest park and find a little spot that is secluded and just get all self absorbed...and wiggle my toes in the dirt, grass, or stream. :) It's okay....you're not alone. And we don't judge...if you don't feel like posting, we understand. We miss you, but we understand. :)

Check out the portable ones on wheels. They usually have a window kit so you can vent them through standard up/down windows or slide casement windows. For a couple of summers we vented one out the chimney through a panel I made as we had no windows to vent for 30 ft in any direction. Most units carry all the moisture out through the air vent. Be sure to get that kind. It's something you can do yourself once you get someone to carry the AC into house. I can still lift things like that but many people and oldies like us can't. BTW... If you can get someone to load it and unload it from your car you can unbox it outside and then roll it into house.

Please keep cool any way possible. It is difficult to deal with such heat even if one is young and fit.

Cool Hugs, Feisty Alice

DH made me quit riding after my fifth documented concussion, a minor rear ender, in my big truck, but whip lash like "shaken baby" That's the one when I blacked out and had permanent memory loss, short term memory permanent disruption, and speech difficulties for over a year and it was probably the least violent concussion. I don't know how many I had growing up being a wild thing with horses. I had quite a few tosses going full blast on Thoroughbreds and jumping with some dinginess afterwards.

With that and being ADHD and Blonde it's a wonder I'm still alive.

When DH was a kid, growing up in Central Texas, and there was hardly any AC except movie theaters they used to wet the sheets at night and point a big fan towards the bed. The did, thank doGness, have electricity.

Nahh...107° is just obnoxious. Most importantly, remember to keep yourself well hydrated...not coffee, soda, or alcohol....dehydration will nullify all my following suggestions.

I'd keep your windows and doors closed. Keep your fans on high.

Grab a hand towel and soak it in cold water, wring it out, then hold it by one corner and spin it around in the air for about 30 seconds. Then drape it around your neck. When it warms back up, grab the corner again and spin it around to cool it off again and re-apply. Works great for hours...until you need to add more water because it dries out eventually.

When I get silly uncomfortable from heat I'll run cold tap water over my wrists and ankles....these are easily accessible spots where your arteries are close enough to the surface of the skin where applying heat or cold will affect the temperature of your blood as it travels through your body. It's not perfect, but it helps.

You can also take a wet washcloth (with cold water) and wipe your exposed skin down with it, then sit in front of a fan or two. Of if it gets bad, forego the mini sponge bath and step through a cool shower really quick.

You can also take a big bowl (biggest mixing bowl you have) of ice water...add like a half cup of salt to the water....then arrange a fan to blow over the top of it. if you need to stack books and place the bowl on them in order to get it high enough, phone books work great.

Alice, I checked those out a while back, even tho my landlord said I wouldn't need AC, but I really didn't think it'd be this hot so continuously! And it's not even July yet!!

If anyone is watching the weather, on a national scale, there is a weird pressure center over the midwest, east of the Mississippi River that is a big circle bringing heat up from the Gulf and circling around to the upper states, upper east coat, and then southerly, and then circling around again. We are just west of it and benefiting from the strong current bringing some cooling and some humidity but the sun is burning that off as the day progresses so we are only 36% humidity right now but started the day with 89%. We normally would be getting the heat full blast but the high today, at the determent of all you north and east of us, was only 94F. I'm feeling almost guilty. But on the other hand, you with AC..... welcome to a sampling of high electricity bills. You without AC I so feel for you and I'm truly worried for your health. Light weight clothing, kept moist, and some moving air really helps a lot. REALLY!!!!!!!

Love, Feisty Alice
