Take an outlet cover off of the wall you hear him on. Dump a box of Dcon pellets in. Replace outlet cover. Scratching will stop in a day or so.
Thanks. Great idea. Will it die behind wall and stink? Oh, he's doing more than scratching. Sounds like all that should be left of wall is a pile of wood chips. I'll put Dcon on my Home Depot list. Over the years we have resorted to using some poison when we've gotten way over run with mice. We use big traps for the rats most of time. Every so often I'll open a metal tool chest drawer, that hasn't been opened in a year or two, and find a dried up rat carcass. Hate that suprise. I'd rather them be alive when they surprise me.
I don't like to use poison when predators might get poisoned by eating sick rodent, even snakes, as most of our snakes are non-venomous and very beneficial. But winter should be okay. By time rat catchers are out and about mummified rodents should be unappitizing for them.
