I tend to favor Limericks. One about how I begin each day...

In the morning, Nuts plays us a tune
Then Dave comes with the trivia soon
Karen shows us a park
Val tells who'll have a lark
And they ALL make me hungry 'fore noon:p

Growling tummy and all, I've found it's a lovely way to start my day:toast:!

PS - Here's the classic one I use to teach 'em...

The limerick packs laughs anatomical
Into space that is quite economical.
But the good ones I've seen
Hardly ever are clean
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

My favourite clean limerick:

There was a young lady named Sapphire
who succumbed to her lover's desire
she said "i know it's a sin
but now that it's in
could you push it a few inches higher?"

When my brother and i were young boys, my mother went into hospital for an operation and a 3 day stay, so our father - who hardly ever cooked in his life was forced to do so! The beans and mash were ok, but we never, ever let him forget those charred burgers he made - they WERE charcoal briquettes!

My mother got the biggest welcome back when she returned from 2 little guys who preferred to go hungry rather than endure that fiasco again!

Since those days i am pleased to report that my father has become an excellent cook - too bad i live 5000 miles away har har!

I learned to cook from my dad, he was the gourmand of the family and can cook like nobody's business, which is good because my mom couldn't cook for squat. Her Jello never gelled and her scrambled eggs would send you running in terror. What she could do, though, was bake a peach-blueberry pie. That's it, but she could make it from scratch and it was stellar.

I'll never cook as well as my dad, but I made a career out of it before I went white-collar.

Geez, Ed...I went and wrote my lame little verse before I read you knock it out of the park...way to show a girl up:glare::p!
I'm still glad I celebrated my morning routine in rhyme, nevertheless, so there:laugh:! Now, wait, Dave, you were a pro chef/cook like Jen is now?! Val's slow-cooking triumphs, Kay's famous cookies, Alice's photogenic dinner marvels, Ed's drool-inducing rotisserie, FAMOUS fatherdano, and this is just off the top of my head:ohmy:?!? This honestly is starting to give me some sort of complex:facepalm:! Big-time culinary inferiority, and I've got to step it up. I'm USING grandma's cookbook tonight, instead of just bowing down to it and waxing nostalgic on this thread......

ETA: When I thought about my morning routine for the silly rhyme, I WAS wondering about Karen's ballpark. She's supposed to be home all day on Fridays.

Ahh but HRH is clever - get some meat, skewer it and cook it in the rotisserie! Nothing clever in that (i can do it). I suspect the trick is in snagging some mug to pay for it all - oh that'd be me!

I can cook only in a microwave, so i'm sure you're better than me! "How long have you lived here?" "5 years" "The oven is clean" "i never used it".

...and that's NUT your puppy, Kay. But now I'm dreaming of snatching that little guy up, that's for sure. Man, you all are gonna have such a blast in a week! Bet you will come bearing something delectable, even without the furry helper.

Told Smurf to cook a bit more and i'll keep some in the car - Might have to hire a flatbed truck at this rate, but that would get about the same gas mileage as my car! Don't you hate when decisions you made come back to bite you in the ....?

"why a car so big and so thirsty? - you could have got a little one, not a damn V6" "cos it's comfy and i like it - and besides - i don't usually drive hundreds of miles.."

oh well!
