Yes I guess I will do that on my other RM2. I can not figure out how to get the **** video or photo to upload on here. Got it into photobucket and tried to copy link and post but says invalid file. I am just worried about using any ejuice that can burst into flames. It it safe even using it in other atty's, carto's, etc. I love my RM2's but this really worries me.

OK pulled out my other RM2 that i had already wicked with cotton. I keep one ready to go as a back up. This one is working just fine. Even after holding the button down for a longer period no flame what so ever. So probably a hot leg on the other RM2. But still is scarry. How do you know if you have a hot let. Do I have to always burn it with the cap off to see if it will burst into flame? The ohm's meter shows it was within my range I like. The spring did not drop. How would you know if you had a hot let etc? Grant you I am new to building but I worry what if I would have happened not to see it and had put the cap on and vaped. If it would have caught on fire I would have had and awful burn in my mouth and possibly my lungs. This just terrifies me.

When you mount a coil on any rebuildable, pulse it a few times to work out any hotspots. A hot spot will even spark a little sometimes. Pulsing oxidizes the wire some which stops the electrons from jumping across and will alleviate hot areas.

If I put a bic to any of my juice it will burn. I used to dry burn my coil with mesh that way and until the juice burns off it will ignite. That said, I have never caught it on fire unless I put it to a flame. You have a very hot coil, usually the juice itself will cool the coil and to the point where it will not burn.

Any juice will burn of exposed to open flame, or if it gets hot enough. So, I don't think it's a juice problem persay. I suspect a problem with your build, probably a hot spot of some sort, more than likely a leg.

You should always do a dry burn after coiling and before wicking to look for that type of problem. A lot of people will then saturate the work and then do a quick test burn before putting the cap on as a final test.

For Cheri, Link to your vid

maybe this will work?

OK when I clicked on this it showed it at least for me. Is it showing the video for everyone else?

Peggy to the rescue :)

Cheri- i'd advise creating a new thread to ask about this. a lot of the "experts" never come to the lounge.

Trunker's advice about leaving the cap off is excellent. i'd probably have never thought about that.

After building your coil without a wick dry burn it and look for hot spots outside the actual coil. Coils should heat up from the middle of the coil outwards. Then I would wick. Thats with cotton. I guess you can dry burn with ecowool already in the coil. THen I would test it with juice on the coil with the cap off the RM2. I never had juice flame up on me though.

ETA: I'm slow

Thanks everyone. I have never had a coil flame up either. I know I am a newbie but this really scared me. I was hoping I was actually getting the hang of this RBA stuff. I really like the flavor with the RM2. It is just it only literally took a couple of seconds for this to burst into an open flame. I know I take a hit longer than that. And it could have been a disaster. I guess I thought the spring would drop or it would show a problem on the ohm meter. I did not notice any problems when I tried to fire it as far as anything looking any different than any other coil I have built. I guess maybe RBA's are not for me. I hate to have to decide to not use one. Is this just a fluke? Someone tell me yes! Please!

And what causes a hot leg? I thought at least I built it like any other coil I have built. Is it because it is touching something? I always clip close to the post and bend the excess wire up so it is not hitting the cap. I guess I do not understand what causes a hot let and how I could prevent it in the future???

dry burning a coil after you build it will help avoid them. You are looking for an even glow rather than some coils that look dull and others that are almost white hot.

I do this on my dedicated coil-burner (silver bullet) and it's fascinating. It's a one off Cheri. On my non-microcoils, i think uneven wrapping and spacing will cause hotspots, but they can be prodded about until i have the coil the way i like. I'll be surprised if you can achieve the same thing again if you rebuild your coils 20 times.

nobody is more newbie at coil-building than me. you taught me a few things today!

i think the advice from the others who know more about this, indicates it was just a fluke.

Did you test burn it BEFORE you added juice? If not, just let the sucker burn, ekowool is great stuff and at the temps the juice burns you will not ruin it. After you burn off the juice, look at how the coil heats up. It should heat from the coil part and NOT on the 'LEGS' that come from each end of the coiled part to the screw. If the part from the coil to the screw is heating first, you have a "hot leg". Adjust your coil until it heats up correctly.
