my youngest daughter is a vegetarian, so everything is "interesting" :)

the last dish she cooked involved quinoa (which i never heard of in my life) and zucchini (which i have always detested, but she guaranteed i would love it.) i loved everything, of course. there was some other stuff i forget we got at the farmer's market that morning. the one thing she forgot to cook was the purple cauliflower we bought that morning...

i swear quinoa did not exist when i was younger. same thing with tilapia. who the hell ever heard of that stuff 30 years ago? i used to dine out at pretty nice restaurants a lot in my 30's and i don't remember that stuff. there are others, but i can't think of the names now.

my theory is that things like tilapia used to be considered trash foods, but now they have fancier names and are more popular. but thanks to my black belt in sloth, i'm too lazy to google it

Tilapia is a farm raised fish, so relatively new.

Quinoa (pronounced Keen-Wa) is actually a very ancient grain. It stands out because unlike most carby grains, it has a ton of protein and other nutrition.

I avoid farm raised fish as there are a ton of anti-biotics used in the tanks.

I am lucky as one of my neighbors is the organic grower of veggies for the region (I can walk there) and is actually the community supported agriculture grower (CSA organic) for the region....... and my other neighbor has a full "grass fed livestock" farm, so I can get everything w/out drugs, hormones, antibiotics, etc. and am spoiled now. (cow, goat, pig, chicken, lamb).

Of course I would eat regular grocery store stuff if this stuff were not available, but for a little extra $$ I feel its worth it to eat the "cleaner" stuff, plus I am keeping 2 families with children who have small businesses in business. Who are neighbors. It's win/win/win/win/win really. :)

There are a few in here that I know for sure will get one.

Val I never did hear how is your cat doing

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk

He does not have an infection, it is renal failure so there is nothing to do but supportive care :(
The only thing I can do for him is ensure he eats and drinks, keep him stress free, and love him. The vet said since he is strong I may keep him going for anywhere from tomorrow to next year. So I went and bought him expensive food, a case of 24 cans was $44 and I have to buy it at the vets, the pet stores don't carry it as it is prescription only. He loves it which is good, it would be the pits if I spent that much and he hated it. If he keeps up eating at the rate he did today, it will be about 1.5 - 2 cans a day which would be fantastic for him. But he basically won't be able to come back from this, you can't "heal" kidneys really. He has the odor about him which reminds me of my ICU days so I am not as optimistic as the vet, but maybe this new diet will help. If not, I will do the right thing for him.

Thanks for asking Jay. He got me through chemo, these last 4 surgeries and he has traveled with me to Tucson, Las Vegas, Big Bear, San Diego and wherever else I took him, and tolerated it well earning the nickname "Trooper Kitty" from my brother. All he cares about is being with me, and he follows me around the house, sleeps with me and runs to the door when he hears me come in, yet he isn't a dog so I can leave him to his own devices if I want to jet off for a few days. Perfect cat. I am really gonna miss him

I know right?
I do have one consolation: he is a purebred Russian Blue, so I can get one pretty close to cloning as far as looking at him goes. General personality goes with the breed also, but of course they are all individuals. My next one will be a rehomed female, so not sure how that will go. Hopefully she will be as dedicated to me in time as he is, and not care more for that other person who lives here like my damn dog does. Dog is not loyal at all and completely forgets who visited her in the pound, picked her out, brought her home, takes her for walks, lets her in and out to pee etc.

Morning all my Reo Buds! Just wanting to pop in to wish everyone an awesome Thanksgiving. Gonna be busy cooking for the 30 people coming here for dinner so probably will not get a chance to get onto these forums the remainder of the week. Lots of out of town company staying here! So HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I am thankful for each and every one of you!

Sorry. :( I know that feeling too well. It's part of the reason I don't like having pets, we outlive them. I try to limit the amount of times my heart is broken in my life.
