Howdy Sonny. Probably still there. Now days just finding anything on many sites is problematic.

unfortunately there is not Johni once a addy starts getting that spam you can only get a new one![]()
A professor friend of mine told me recently that he teaches that it is not what you know or who you know any more. It is knowing where to find the information. He's at least partly right!
Legs, I use Sophos Free on both my iMac and MBP. It uses hardly any resources.
Mac Antivirus | Free Antivirus for Mac Tool Download | Sophos
I thought I told you that before?
But I thought someone said "Macs don't get viruses."I have two G4 Macs, btw. Gave a wonderful aqua Special Edition Clamshell away to friend. Wish I had it. HD went south on Powerbook and there are about 100 screws you have to take out to get to HD. Picked up the Ibook on eBay; no OS. Purchased family edition of latest OSX that could be installed on it and it runs slow as a dog. Can't downgrade without purchasing another lower version of OSX. I forget what virus protection I used on it as it's been so long since I touch them. Maybe some day.
Sending pic to mom last night when she was at work

Hey redhatpat. I know it doesn't take 8 hours to recharge bats but I always thought that on the first charge you should leave it on 8 hours.
Love the Dad/Son matching haircuts!!!
Howdy missing girlie peeps. Great to see ya's.
At least the Win 8.1 update will give us the start button back like we're used to

yahoo email prolly has this now as well, but on gmail i use the feature where you register your cellphone # to the account. any time a device with an unknown mac addy tries to login it sends a code to your cell which needs to be entered before you can log in. at the very least i know if my gmail gets hacked it's because i did something incredibly dumb on my own computer.
you are also dead-on about most refurbs being returned for silly reasons. a lot of companies have flexible return policies, and then the customer service department gets lazy about returning them back to the manufacturer. aeons ago, i bought several thousand hard disks from a company like that. most of them had been returned because of silly reasons and were perfectly fine. i made a small fortune. i may have bought maybe one new computer since. just refurbs for me.
i wish i had the same luck buying cars, but since i suck at that, i just buy new...
Macs are not as prone as Windows for viri/malware but they can get them. So I choose to use Sophos for my virus protection to be on the safe side - better to be safe than sorry.
Add some more ram to the iBook if you can. The newer OSXs' seem to like more ram. I still have Leopard on my MBP with only 2gb of ram and it runs pretty well. When I got my iMac with Lion it came with 4gb ram and I thought I was set. It ran way slower than my old XP Dell Dimension with only 1gb ram. I bought 2 4gb ram sticks for it so now I have 12gb ram in it and it runs good now.
Both my iMac and MBP are refurbished as well. I've had my MBP since 2008 and it has run just about 24/7 for FAH (Computer Distributing for cancer research) with no problems at home. I've had my iMac since 5/12 and it also runs 24/7 doing FAH as well.
The first thing I do, when I get a new computer, is to disable any and all remote connect software and services.
That solves the problem pretty nicely.
I will say that MS Security Essentials works very well, and I have not had an infected system since the day it was installed.....and it's free. Independent testers in Germany, as well as PC publications ran it thru the mill and it came out with pretty durn good scores in the 98th percentile for detections as well as rootkit deletions.
I know people like to bash MS, but they do get quite a lot of things right....just like the USPS.![]()
I have that, also! And the first thing I did was run it!Didn't speed it up an iota, though....
This damn thing moves as slow as me....
No offense meant toward Norton fans but I would bet that is your problem. I've seen that do some goofy things to machines before and once it was removed and replaced with another program the oddities went away.![]()
Like Racehorse said MS Security Essentials is free and I normally use AVG Free. I've never had a virus using it, although I'm a little more careful on the web than most.
I believe Norton itself is a virus, that's how many problems it has caused me...![]()
That
s funny...it totally shut down after I got rid of Norton!Couldn't get back online! Actually, I couldn't even log in, it kept telling me my password was wrong...and so was my mother's maiden name as a hint!!!
I think this thing is filled up with the previous users stuff![]()
Good evening!
Since you guys have been offering computer advice, I'll ask a question. Seems one of my Facebook friends clicked on the wrong bunch of stupid and got me (and others) on some horrific spam list. All at once I'm getting 50 to 75 per day. I don't need male enhancement, payday loans, cheap life insurance, etc. and I'm damn sure I didn't win any lottery because I'm way too cheap to play. Any easy way out of this mess without changing my email address?
I just took a few moments to see how to get rid of Norton Ive spent hours before trying and it was a SYMANTEC THING DUH  WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE ITS MAD oops hit caps lock![]()
good afternoon everyone so anyone know a good free antivirus for Mac ? Norton was a dog I used to use AVG free on PCS with good luck
that is probably my biggest regret not being able to ride any more
I do love Chrome. I can't get DH used to it but I keep it on his computer for when I use it. There are still a few sites that don't like Chrome. PhotoBucket loses some functionality with Chrome so I have to use IE for it. I have Chrome on my Galaxy Tab 2. So far it's not much better than native browser. Haven't put it on my phone yet.
