what is that? Like a vacuum kinda thing? or something that tops the bottles off with argon or something to take the 02 outta the bottles?

I call it a purge tank, Argon is heaver than air, so to purge the bottles you just have to put them inside a tank like this, and fill the tank with argon. I put a candle on top of a jar in the back, when it goes out, they are done. I made this tank out of aluminum angle and plexiglass, I looked for a plastic fish tank to use, but they were too expensive. I had the plexiglass already, so all I had to buy was the angle and some caulking. I used to dabble in welding, so I already owned a tank of argon. The tank is kind of ugly but it works, I know that it is kind of overkill, but it was a interesting project that I wanted to try, after I read that a few others were trying to purge out oxygen. :)

I've been experimenting with HF preemptively, for playing with different gauge wires, coil diameters, number of wraps, etc. I always use 3.7 volts as baseline, because that's the nominal volts for an 18650 battery. I then fool around with all the other variables, like wire gauge, material, number of wraps, coil diameter, etc., keeping in mind that I'm looking for 270-275 HF at 3.7v.

I target my builds to the heat flux rather than Ohms. Don't laugh, I shoot for around 80 - 110 mW/mm2. I have no idea what it all means but that range is right for me. But I don't worry about the Watts setting, I just use flux as a relative value - I know it is never the right number but the error is consistent. If too hot or cool, I adjust something, gauge, metal or wrap count. One time building, I found the flux number I like and now I shoot for near it every time.

The annual'Golden Snowball' award generally goes to Syracuse; except for that one time Rochester won. But I hear they cheated...somehow.

that's kewl.......and CDM too. I looked at it a couple times, but haven't really messed with it. I tend to find a coil I like and just keep makin it.

wow that is sooooo kewl! Do you have to have a plastic fish tank over glass? Or was a plastic one too expensive just cuz they don't normally make plastic ones very big. I'm sure I'll never do this, but my gd has a glass 10 gallon one they don't use. Could you use something like that?

I think any tank would work, I wanted a plastic one so I could drill a hole in it. to feed the argon in from the bottom, and so I could move it out of the way easier when I am not using it. The glass one will work fine, you would just have to stick the purge hose over the side of the tank. I think I was looking at local stores when I was looking at the tanks. Most of the ones I saw were to small for me to be reaching in and out of, and were $80 to 100.00. I did not want to spend that much on something that I was not sure was going to actually work, I think I spent less than $10.00 on this tank. I am not sure that I would have done all this if I had not already had a argon tank and regulator in my basement. I do remember that you can get argon in small bottles, that wine people use to purge the air from wine bottles, and some people were doing it that way, this is just the way I wanted to do it. :)

It's an interesting concept. Before retiring, I was a pipefitter welder for many years, and used to work with tig welding stainless steel piping systems regularly. We would purge the pipe with argon during the welding process, in order to provide smooth, sanitary interior surfaces, especially on food and pharmaceutical handling systems. I'm sure I still have a couple argon flow meters in my tool box. Getting a small tank of argon would be easy enough.

I work for a mechanical contractor, and at one point I was considering going into pipe fitting and welding, so that is why I had the argon and regulator/flow meter. We do piping installations involving various welding processes including TIG welding. When I first started here we were doing a lot of work for Lilly, now we do some work for Linde and Prax-Air, so I know what you are talking about. :)

Best way would probably be a small 'glove box', so that you could keep the argon flowing while capping the bottles. It wouldn't be too hard to build one. But it might be overkill for occasional home use.

Yep, that is what I do with the tank I made, it was just a interesting project that I wanted to try and it seemed to work. I did not really test it with a bottle not purged, but my Dec. 2013 Wizard Nic is crystal clear.

I just ordered a litre of the smooth salts, and glass amber storage bottles, mostly 120ml for storage. I spoke with a chemist at nude nic. He said while glass bottles, filled mostly to the top, are ideal for long term storage, plastic can be used for short term, even in the freezer. He recommended I keep the plastic bottle I have in use in the freezer so I will be putting that into practice. My plan in the future when I break into the litre stash is when I open a new bottle, I'll transfer some into a 30ml unicorn dropper bottle, then put the glass bottle back in the freezer and probably just keep the unicorn bottle out. I measure by weight and use the unicorn to drip my nic into the mix.

They won't break the salt nics down into glass for me hence the order of glass bottles to break the litre up into.

I'm excited, this is my first time actually stock piling nic. I expect nic to remain available for quite some time if not indefinitely, but figured I'd go ahead and do this litre while the gettin's good. I really love this smooth formula. I look forward to vaping all my mixed liquids I have out and running through the VT nic I have out, so I can switch to the smooth salts completely. In the meantime I'm just keeping the plastic bottle in the freezer.

I may end up missing throat hit a little bit, but I vape so freakin' much, I think the lack of it will be good for my throat. I may even up my nic a little bit (I like nic ) since there's no TH to speak of with the smooth.

    Sounds like a plan.
Just remember whenever you take it out of the freezer, let it thaw to room temp, before opening the cap.
Otherwise condensation will form on the inside of the container, watering down the nic.

I expect it to be available also, although much more expensive, due to taxes the states have, and will be adding.

I don't keep the nic I'm using in the freezer. I keep it in a closed door cabinet. I don't think I'd like thawing it and refreezing it all the time. Plus, I get my nic at 50/50 I like it to be room temperature, so I can shake it up well before mixing.

Pardon my ignorance, I have read plenty of threads on storage but was unaware that nic base actually froze and needed to be thawed out. Is it the PG based that freezes and does it actually take solid form? I know at one time I put plain VG in the freezer and when I needed it I would take it out and it was still pourable, thick, but pourable...
