My second SVD (a replacement for my failed first one) has been performing admirably since I received it. Only time will tell.

Quoting myself because time did tell. The button is beginning to fail on SVD #2. It's back in the vape cabinet until the day I feel like messing with it. I'm not going to bother sending it back, I'm starting to feel that a replacement won't be much better.

I read thru this entire thread, saw the common issue, but found a great deal so I rolled the dice on the SVD. So... I purchased my SVD from Kanvape.com (could not find any real feedback on them, but the price was great ($42.95 + 20%off = $34.36 free shipping = amazing deal I couldn't pass up!!). I received it a week ago, came factory sealed in plastic over the box w/ Innokin's "scratch-off sticker". So far so good. All of the buttons are clicky, and no mis-fires or issues thus far. I would have spent $15-20 for an ohms tester anyhow, so this seemed like a good bet... if it fails I can still check coils (fingers crossed).

So far no issues and no complaints. I guess time will tell if it holds up or not...

There's people saying they got them from other places than FT but, on reflection,we don't know whether the places they got them from got them from somewhere dodgy.

So let's ask another question:

My hypothesis is that the ones with a slot in the beauty ring thread like in the picture, are the ones that don't fail.

Does anyone's experience disagree?

Soul catcher, does yours look like the one in the quote above? With a slot in the beauty ring thread?

Looks mine does not have the groove in the top cap. Def press-fit. It is a verified "Authentic" Innokin however, not that that will prevent it from possibly breaking down.
Would be curious to see comparisons of the serial numbers of ones that fail vs ones that don't, ones that have a threaded top vs pressed-fit-top. If you can't see it... Serial no. IK121-00052580
This is intriguing...

**Also, the positive button is to the right of the fire button, negative button to the left. As you can see the fire button is black'sh clear, and when you press plus-or-minus once, it displays the current setting; pressing a second time allows you to adjust the watts/volts.

I can't decide if I like this in shorty mode with an 18350 or long mode with the long tube with an 18650.

I'm just happy my second one came with a 1200 mAh 18350 battery.

I use 18490's in mine, and I think it makes the device the perfect length, but of course I haven't tried either of the other size batteries. Although I can imagine the size the device would be with them in it, and I know I wouldn't want my device to be any longer/shorter than it is with the 18490's.

Also, the only 18350's I have seen that are 1200mAh are the Trustfire/Ultrafire brands, and I have heard that those brands are no good. Just something to consider if that's what brand you have.

Here's some info on batteries you should check out, there is a lot of useful info - (9) Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?

That seems to be very good information to know. I wasn't aware.

Thank you.

May I ask where the SVDs that are lasting over a year were purchased?

I am on my second one and am now loving it, but afraid that it will, too, crap out. When it does, I can't see what would be a suitable alternative it terms of looks and the ability to use the 3 sizes of batteries I have already invested in this.

Nice. Great detail work on the lettering!

What sort of paint are you using? And do you need to prep the stainless first to get good adhesion?

I used flat acrylics with an airbrush straight on to the brushed stainless. The flat paint acts like a primer itself. All the pieces were then given a gloss varnish coat, this lets you just drop the red paint into the lettering and gravity does the hard bit for you. Finished with several layers of satin varnish, which is a type used to protect paintwork on RC model kits, so its pretty durable stuff.

    That looks really nice!

Thanks to you both.:) So maybe it was worth the day and a half I spent doing it.
