Hey Vmodians...

I got my all of my new goodies today :) but.... unfortunately, I can't get my new Vmod XL to fire for me :(

I am using AM 18650 3.7v 1600mah (charged, obviously)

I have tried using:
-two different batteries
-both the atomizer and the cartomizer provided with the kit, and also a Boge LR carto (that hits like a champ on my 510)
-flipping the battery both ways (positive side up, negative side up)

and I am getting nothing. Do any of you guys (or gals) have any tips before I send this back for a replacement?

When I first got mine I had to really tighten my Atty (one that came with the Vmod XL) down. It gets to a point when it feels bottomed out but, try twisting a little harder to see if it goes any farther. On mine the hybrid atty and the silo carto both sit flush with the top of the cone. I just checked mine. If you hold the atty/ carto and turn the body of the Vmod XL it is 5.5 rotations to bottom out my silo carto. Hope this helps!

So after using this thing for a few hours today, I can say that it is indeed awesome. I love not having to fiddle around with anything. It works great, good hits, good vapor. Good everything. Can't wait for the regular model to be updated, I am definitely getting one of those as well. Very happy with the Vmod XL. Glad I found this thread and got one with a good discount and before they went on back order!

Hey Jordan85,

I really hope you have tried the whole tighten down the atty/carto down farther than you think. Mine is like that to with certain atties/cartos, it will feel as though you have tightened it all the way but you can actually go farther(and it may be a hard turn or so ) but it will turn. Keep doing that till you make contact by firing the button. Also are you using batts that have a flat top?
I hope it works out for you. I thought mine was broken too at first but it was user error..LOL :)

Just got my first IKV i06s (1.8 & 2.5) and an IKV Platinum LR 1.8 atty. They both give me the same problem in the XL: draw tight as a brick.

I put one of the special delrin drip tips onto the i06. Yes, the swirl drip tips are WAY tight and don't fit in the XL anyway. The delrin drip tip is also very snug on the atty, and the assembly is tight in the screw-on chimney but not THAT snug. As soon as I screw down the atty then the chimney, the draw gets impossibly tight. The IKV Platinum atty acts the same way, minus the drip tip issues. Like sucking on a capillary tube.

It seems like both of these are designed to take AIR more from the side pin holes than the center tube - that's a new one! - and in the Vmod those side holes are bathed in juice and sealed off from the air. The i06 bottom hole barely lets any air in, hence the bad draw.

If I leave the drip tip off, and use a section of the beige tubing cut from the i06's condom, it's not long enough after trim to cover the i06 body down to the connector flange. And if it's not covering the atty barrel all the way down, the O-Ring doesn't do its job of sealing the "juice chamber", plus it catches on the lip, and when I take the atty out, it tends to pull the o-ring out with it.

But finally what worked is not worrying about the o-ring being loose on the naked i06 body, and just tightening the atty past it, insert a drip tip or trimmed cart into the beige tubing, then work the tubing down into the i06, screw everything together. It then works not too badly BECAUSE the o-ring isn't sealing off the chamber the way it's supposed to, and that's how it now gets air. Yes, it does seep a bit out the top, but that stays within the chimney so far. It also tends to gurgle where the air and juice share the same lane, but it's manageable. The beauty of the XL is that there are so many unexpected ways for it to work.

This might be a way for some attys that don't work. If you take out the inner O-ring, it opens up the top and some units other than the i06 might be able to also work that way (but put it back to best feed Vapage bottom feeder cartos/atties).

The i06 atty itself is indeed impressive. No idea why, but the flavor just jumps out at ya, and with the 1.5-1.9 ohms on a 18650 the vapor is outstanding, not too hot for me. No burned taste at all. If I run it dry it doesn't shout "roofing materials fire", it just nicely says "feed me". I'm using old 510 carts, cut off 5 mm below the ledge, as a mouthpiece. Those clean up and cool the vapor down a bit.

Also got some IKV Platinum LR Cartos. Those are just re-branded Boge 2.0s.

One of my blue Vapage 18650s died. Sigh. He will be sorely missed.

Are there going to be a list of attys and cartos that do work well with the XL ???

The only 510 threaded attys which have been mentioned NOT to work are the dual coil attys & the Smartvapes dripping attys. They use a different construction which won't let liquid feed through the side hole of the connector.

I've got a bottle full of Vaperite's VR4 in my XL, and it's PURE HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This beats dripping all to hell.

I've got to say, this thing is smaller than I expected. Maybe I have freakishly large hands or something, but I can't see myself using the smaller version comfortably. This one fits just right.

Does anybody else do this?

I still feed my XL like its little brother or sister... Tilt... little nudge... Straighten squarsh... Vape... And on occasion a firmer nudge but before I squarsh I remove the drip tip so I can watch the juice ooze up into the atty then back down... Replace the drip tip take a vape and then marvel at the cloud it produces...

The second part I did not actually do with little brother/sister it was something I started doing when I first got the XL to see that was feeding the coil... But has become a ritual type thing I do frequently throughout the day...

Just curious...

Cheers...

I to was surprised that it fit the hand so well, considering the size of the battery and being a woman, ie smaller hands. I would be happier with a ruberized shell tho, I grab my pv alot with wet hands and doing chores ouside it gets really cold!!

I thought about trying some different mods for the shell, neoprene sock, simular to a bottle coozie but made to fit. Thought about using a gun coating called duracoat and spraying several different shells. When the extras become available I think I am going to custom airbrush a few, I mean how hard could it be, I used to do custom artwork on motorcycles until the hands gave out for that many hours of painting and sanding, plus the economy didn't help.

I used some PTFE tape to give my shell a rubber coat. It was material left-over from a waterfall I built. It's actually used to bond pond liner seams. It's SUPER STICKY!! I only ran a band around it for now, but intend on re-doing it to cover the entire case around the sides. I actually covered the skwishing window with the material, because A) It's very hard to cut straight/true and B) The material is very flexible and C) It keeps any dust/debris out of the mod. I'll post pics when the final run is complete

I've been doing that, it's been helping me get a feel for how hard to squarsh, and how long to keep it squarshed. Helping me "know my mod" so to speak.
