I have a lot of 18650s, and the longest vape at 1.5 ohms for me is the AW protected 2600 mah. I have not tried the higher mah AWs because someone published actual curves at 2 or 2.5 amps (I forget) and the 2600 gave by far the longest and flattest curve, no idea why. The 3000 e.g. had a slightly different shape, but dropped off sooner. The IMRs (1600 and 2000 mah) show no advantage at these amperages, they shine at 5 amps and above, on an atty they drop off much sooner. I use them on my provari because it's "required". Low cost *Fire batteries are untruthfully labeled, but you can get lucky and get half the vape time for half the price. I use them as backups. The 4.8 volt NiMh 18650 sized stacks (madvapes And vapingzone have them) are only 600 mah but they work with 3 ohm atties. Some people like them even with 2 ohm cartos. Vapingzone sells a good charger for them. Radio shack carries the little magnets for nipple-less flat top batteries. Flipping the battery is an option. Welcome to the XL, the go-to PV.

@Tat I have the IKV 1.8 510, and it's great, but the. 357 gives me quite a bit more flavor. BTW you CAN dry burn them, very carefully, I did once, and for some reason since then the coil stays cleaner. If not for that, I might have considered it munged-up beyond hope, and tossed it. So if someone has a grotty 357, try an alcohol soak, then a pulsed minimal voltage brief dry burn to where the coil turns gray. The reason HH says not to dry burn them is because most people ruin them, and then want a free replacement.

Thank you Andy & Fernand

A lot of good info. I really appreciate both of taking the time to help.

I have been mostly using 1.5 ohm BF atties so I think I am going to try the AW Protected 2600 mah first and then try a couple others as I go along.

The XL I have coming includes the 4.8 NI-MH batteries which I have not used before. So I need to ask you all what atty & cartos do you think I can safely use with these 4.8 batts?

@opsy make sure you have a charger for them. The one from vapingzone is the only one I know of that indicates by LED change to green when the battery is charged. You guess with the others. They are a stack of 4 1.2v cells in a plastic casing. You cannot charge them in 3.7v chargers. "Safely" isn't much if an issue with NiMh in an all mechanical device, I don't think they even can blow.

BTW anybody here seen the Joye eGo Twist batteries? Awesome! a little calibrated ring on the bottom makes them adjustable continuously from 3.2 to 4.8 volts, 1000 mah costs $25 ea at Mike & Carol's. About 25% Longer than the standard 1000 mah eGo battery. Work great. It's tempting to rip one open and install the regulator and control in an XL!

Again a big thank you to Fernand & Andy for your assistance.

I believe the 4.8 batts I have coming with the XL also has a charger but I think it is one of those with no LED indicator so I will definitely be picking up one of the other chargers you mentioned from vapingzone.

Yes I have seen some of the eGo-Twist batteries but I thought they only went up to 4.2 volt. I'll have to go back and check em out again.

@Andy it sounds like the 4.8 batts work pretty well but I gather at 600mah they only last a short time, but since I have them coming so I might as well give them a whirl.

Certainly need 2 to get you through a day.

While they perform admirably really like a 1.5 atty and a standard 18650. The fact I don't have to play with batterys in the middle of a work day is the main factor.

Still thinking about The Kick but will wait till I get my XL back.

Really missing a bottom feeder this weekend. Knew I used my XL a lot but hadn't realized quite how much of my day to day vaping has been using it.

Oh well get my Reo Grand tomorrow so will be interesting to actually compare after 3 months of VMod'ing.

The eGo twist goes up to 4.8 fer sure. The 650 mah version is $21 so that's the one to butcher, same circuit. Beats paying for a kick only to have to wire it up too! Haven't seen the inside of the eGo unit yet as I'm not going to butcher my 1000 mah ones ;-) The way to mount it I think would be under the bottle, it can't be very big, and leave the other compartment alone so an 18650 still fits, and drill a hole to have the ring dial sticking out the bottom below the bottle, so you can dial in the voltage yaaaah! It would be better than a kick with its hidden trimpot. I love how the eGo twist can be adjusted on the fly, not like the stupid interface on the provari.

It might even make sense to leave it in the bottom of the eGo tube, drill a wide enough hole, glue it in, and have a bit of the tube sticking out. Depends how big it is and whether the dial is best left attached to the tube bottom or if it can be mounted easily on its own. But it wouldn't hurt if it protruded like half an inch, I don't think. Now I'm itching to get a 650 to try it.

Must admit to preferring the idea of siting such a device under the bottle to leave you free to carry on using an 18650. Someone is bound to have taken a Twist apart and have pictures available online somewhere. Will have a search later.

The idea of a module placed under the bottle is a good one. ;)

What it IS!

BTW I gotta check the dates but I'm somewhere around 3 months chain vaping the same HH357. It's funny, it goes through brief runs of not feeding fast enough, burnt taste, gotta prime it with the squirsh, and like starting a car, aftrr a few tries turns over and then it's in tilt feed mode perfect for days ... hiss... hiss... aaaah!

In my absence what's been the favorite LR atty? Avid Aero or what?

My main accomplishment of late: running down an 18650 and most of an XL bottle on a flight from SFO to Frankfurt.
I use hh357s on my non b/f mods... Oops, APV,s excuse meeee... Couldnt get the hang of it yet, but sounds good!

using Aero and if my current 1.5 i06 wasn't stuck on stiff, that would work too, with the right sleeve.

Has anyone tried the "straight" AVA's yet ?

So many tempting offerings about. Still want to try 357's and will probably pick up an i06 at the same vape meet. The i06 will fit the alternative feeder I now have.

Hmmm talking of which. It is nice and yes solid, no mention of trucks, but I am leaning towards the VMod as my preferred device well when I get it back. The feeding mechanism just works better for me.

Not going to let the Grand go anytime soon but may well do when I hit 3 bottom feeding devices which should be mid June time.

Although I don't use the hh357 or AVA on my b/f's (even LR) I do not get the same quality flavor, which unfortunately relegates my b/f's to more of a convenience (on the road) only.
As far as other attys go the Aero and i06 are better IMO than most, in every aspect, yet the 357 and AVA are heads and shoulders above in flavor. Flavor flavor flavor.
IMO
Who'd a thunk it?

Going to have to invest for certain.

Seem to have reached a spell in my vaping where I am not popping atty's every couple of days. Well nearly. Had a couple of 306's, Aero's, dripping atty's and 510's for a while so about ready.

Looking at the litany of your 357 experience looks that may change but looking at Ferdinand's gives me hope lol

Has to be about flavour. Vapor is good but flavour is what turns it for me. Can throw out as much vapor as it wants but if it tastes like brussel sprouts I ain't touching it.
