I actually just mixed a bottle of the Black Honey last night. However, it's mixed with French Vanilla at 10% Vanilla - 4% tobacco. I have been experimenting with flavors I think might go well together, and I am happy to report that this combination is doing well thus far.

The vanilla at higher % seems to take a great deal of edge off of the tobacco, giving the whole flavor a dominant sweet vanilla with tobacco under tones. The tobacco itself doesn't seem like something I would vape all day, however, it's robust, and earthy and with the vanilla, does pretty good. I have read that after a bit of steeping, tobaccos seem to shine. If it's not so bad as is, I might have found the beginnings of a good tobacco blend.

On that note, French Vanilla is an excellent mixer. It sweetens quite well, and I am going to use it in other mixes in the near future, for sure.

I haven't been at this long and I'm too lazy to look up who I bought syringes from the first time. I just assumed that all syringes got stuck and were hard to work with. Also when using a 10 ml with a 14 ga blunt tip needle, I was putting some VG back in the bottle and the needle flew off and sunk to the bottom.
Long way to go to say to buy your syringes from Wizard Labs. They have the ones that the needle snaps into and they are silky smooth. All of my DIY is getting bought from them now.

They are called luer lock syringes. I agree, they're pretty friggin awesome. This one time I was using a non-luer lock syringe and a 18 gauge needle tip with VG and I presses too hard and the tip flew off and I got a face full of VG. Lol There was some on the ceiling too. Dont ask me how, F If I know. :p

wouldn't the water diminish vapor more than using the same amount of pg to reduce viscosity?

Perhaps? This is a method used for some who are pg sensitive, or, for those who simply just don't have any pg sitting around :)

John - I didn't leave the cap off as I originally intended. This is due to my plan to purchase some pg here real soon.

Anyone try their Black Tea (TFA) flavoring?

I took the cap off and gave it a smell ... it smells like straight Gin. I tried mixing it as low as 3%, but all I taste is gin. I'm going to let it steep a while and see if it gets any better. But while I wait, does anyone else have any opinions / pointers on this flavoring?

So my one-week follow up with black tea..

I mixed it @ 2% .. (.2ml black tea in 10ml) with 2% (YES 2%) sweetener (not EM). The next day the tea was so so strong and I felt like it could use more sweetener "and something else..." I revisited it today.. and bam! It actually tastes really, really good. It's time to tinker with it, and I'm not going to do anything at all to it. It really mellowed out. I will likely do more fun things with it in the future, but this seemed to work for me.

I also mixed it as above with .05 ml raspberry.. and it's just awesome. I will be recreating this with peach for sure.

Just realized the sampler 'chocolate' I got is the Lorann's Chocolate flavor concentrate. No wonder I couldn't taste my test batch. Tripled the flavoring, going to let it sit.

But I read the bottle.. It seriously has food coloring...? Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 2, Yellow 6.

Does Lorann's put coloring in all their flavors? Never tried it before, not impressed so far.

Edited to add obligatory "...is not impressed" image.

Am I correct that WL only carries flavors from TPA?

I just want to know if I need to order "a few flavors" from elsewhere in case.......

They carry a few from LA, and a couple of SM as well.

Edit: If you look at their flavors, it'll say where each flavor derives from.

Just mixed a batch of Dragon Fruit, a flavor given compliments of John himself. Requires no tuning, or sweetener. In fact, any extra sweetener and it might be too sweet.

The first thing I thought of was banana runts :) However, I am really trying to analyze how I got banana out of it. But I think that's what I'm tasting, lol. A sugary-ish candy fruit. Sandy, my fianceé says she tasted pear, but also something sugary sweet.

So, it's not bad. I like it.

Interesting. I'm already making a list of flavorings I want to try NEXT... and Dragon Fruit made the list.
But I don't like bananas. Or banana flavored anything. I might have to reconsider! ;)

On a completely unrelated note, I made some menthol flavoring with crystals and PG.. and added a bit to a pet project of mine -- Wint-o-Mint (wintergreen, spearmint -- like those lifesavers mint candies). Well... menthol DIY is much.. much.. MUCH stronger than the menthol-in-PG I got from TPA ages ago. It completely overpowered my juice!!

I won't complain too much though.. I'm vaping it. It's.. completely and utterly cold. I enjoy it. Going to have to try again on my Wint-o-Mint though.

I don';t know where the idea of bananas comes from. I personally LOVE bananas in any form but I get NO hint of banana, so give it a try. I do love the Dragon fruit because it is a very tasty vape.

How did you mix the menthol crystals with PG? Mine is not overpowering. I use one or two drops of mine per ml.

It's weird, I know, but I re-tried it again and I still think it's banana runts, lol. Perhaps if my senses are fooling me, I still believe 100% that it tastes along the lines of this: Remember these?

Edit: Maybe even the pineapple one?! When I smell it, I smell it to be tropically... if that is even an adjective.

But, I am a man of science! I shall purchase some runts to make sure I'm not just mixing up memories. :D

Yay...I'm so excited to try DIY again...it's been a while! I placed my first order from the wizard this weekend...actually two orders as John let me make an add-on order.

I am going to be making a RY4 double recipe I found here on ECF along with few other recipes I've found in my searches.

I'm a little concerned with the earl grey I ordered...I'm thinking I should have ordered the black tea.
I haven't been able to find too many tea recipes so I'm going to try and wing it on this one.
I'm going to try; 3-5% earl grey + 1-2% agave nectar(as sweetner) + 1-2%lemon/lime + 1% mint + 1%koolada...sounds yummy in theory. muah ha ha ha

Glad I found this thread though...lottta great tips and a few recipes I will try from here.:toast:
More tips are welcomed and appreciated!

HaH! I got a bananna flavor from dragonfruit too!
It is a good flavor. It certainly has potential.

When I google dragonfruit, it's flavor is dexcribed as a cross between a kiwi and a pear. I get the pear component, but no banana. I sure do like to vape it though

Just got my first order in from wizardlabs.... Wow am I impressed with packaging!

I ordered 500ml at 100mg/ml nic in 100% pg and 100%vg. They threw in quite a few samples (gloves, syringes, pippets) Not that I didn't already have plenty of lab supplies, but freebies never hurt!

The nic bottles were plastic bottles(can live with it, but prefer glass) and came in 4 layers of sealed plastic.

Also I grabbed ~30 random flavor samples I had never tried. At 1.50 for a 8ml sample of a concentrate its hard to go wrong! If I don't like one I'll just toss it. If I do like one I'll order it in bulk direct.

This is the cleanest, clearest, odorless, and smoothest nicotine I have tried to date. I mixed up some 100% pg juice diluted to 24mg/ml (no flavor) and compared to vaping 0nic 0 flavor lab grade PG... there is no identifiable difference in flavor.

This is the first nicotine base I got domestic. I'm not sure where they get there nicotine from, but I am pretty damn sure it is not the Chinese. I have tried 3 different nicotine bases from China and all of them had very strange and distinct flavor / odor.

The die has been cast. It was between building a DNA12 mod and DIY, and since the DNA20 is coming soon at about the same price point and I managed to get some 20mg Pluid that I'll want to dilute and I have no PG... It's time to revisit the WL shopping cart and pull the trigger.

I've accumulated plenty of bottles glass/plastic in various sizes, I have goggles/respirator from other endeavours, assuming any sort of latex/plasticy gloves/apron will suffice... It's down to some measurement tools and labware and base/pg/vg and some flavorings.

Are there any specific flavorings (besides EM/Menthol) that are useful to have around. Things that are used in many recipes, or are common additions to a mix for that extra bit of special something? Are there any favors that are especially forgiving for a first attempt? Any to avoid until one is well on the way to mixing up 10x 1ml samples just to find the right spot?

Any other tips/tricks that you learned a couple of weeks into DIY that you wish you knew when you started?

So far I've got:
EM - 1/4tsp + PG to make 10ml - ~10% solution
Menthol - 5-7.5 ml crushed + PG to make 10ml - strong drops
Tape on syringe numbers
VG - big needles - thin with distilled water
Acid (lemon juice/vinegar) - couple drops per 10ml for fruit pop-age and preservation
PGA - couple drops per 10ml for TH / thinning (or distilled water - no TH)
citrus/cinnamon - plastic crackers

Anything else?

This has been such a handy thread. :D
