Not to detract from your vaping Injury, Mikey ;) (I do feel sorry for your nutz), I'm trying to work this coil thing out and I don't want to lose my train of thought...

I just went and subbed in 316L wire for the Kanthal, and left everything else the same, but now it says I need 7 wraps (which I doubt will fit in that little iSub barrel) and the heat flux is back down to 320.

So I can't use the stainless wire in these iSub heads? Is that what it's telling me? Or I just need to get a LOT better at making coils?

Isn't it funny how when you see something is falling, you try to catch it without ANY regard for anything else? Like you drop a freaking spoon and it wouldn't do anything but clatter when it hits the floor, but you knock over a priceless Ming vase trying to save the spoon from falling. Not that I have any priceless Ming vases, but if I did, I probably WOULD break one trying to save a spoon from hitting the floor.

Sorry, Mikey, I think everyone else left (or is in hiding) and you're stuck with me. ;) However, I do need to go finish up morning chores, so now you'll have to talk to yourself. Or the rest of you can come out of hiding. ;) I'll be back later, aren't you breathless with anticipation?

Oh, also (look, she's STILL TALKING), the heat flux according to Steam Engine, with 26g wire and 3mm ID and 3 full wraps, comes out to 620 at 35W (isn't that a little HOT????), and SAYS it should be .5 ohms.

With 24g wire, at 3mm ID, to get .5 ohms it says 5 full wraps, and the heat flux is 309 at 35W.

I'm sooooo confused!
I'll try to explain this as I understand it. With the 26g and three wraps you'd have too little wire for .5 to get a "good" heat flux. Basically it would instantly get hot and very quickly get too hot. You need a little more mass than those 3 wraps will get you to get some good/stable heat generation. The 24g would allow you to get to the same resistance and wattage but with more mass.

If you're using a regulated device, and 26g is what you're comfortable with, add another two wraps and see how it does. It won't be the same 0.5, but since the wattage part of your mod will supply the correct amount of power anyway, that part doesn't really matter.

My personal tastes, for a 3mm ID coil I never go less than 5 wraps, 2.5mm ID gets 7 wraps, 2mm or less gets at least 8 wraps. Of course, I'm using a mech so there are other considerations, but with those general rules I use the wire gauge to determine the resistance I'll be getting. There's a lot more to a good vape than just resistance, though there's less you can play with inside a pre-built head. Hard to adjust the distance and angle of the airflow to the coil in so little room.

How's the airflow on the V. I have 2 iSub G's, which I really like, but I find the DLH to be restricted somewhat. Since I've been using the Boreas everything else tank wise, seems like I'm sucking through a straw!
I find them to be about the same, even though the G's airflow slots are much wider than the V's. The V's airflow/draw is less "turbulent" that the G's too.

The flow is definitely not loose like a TF4, but it is looser than a subtank mini. I find it comparable to the Goblin mini.

I put 7 wraps SS326L in my isub coils no problem. I use contact coils so they fit. I'm sure you could make a spread coil if you want. They come out to around .54 or so. I use them in TC and wattage mod and they work fine. I just double checked and they use NR wire as leads so that is why they get .5 ohms with 5 wraps. The next one you take apart you can find the soldier points on the legs.

Thanks pokemom. @$15 bucks I'll probably pick one or 2 up!

Jup same here! Before the derringer, my fav was the nuppin, but now derringer is best.

I'd be interested in trying that if I could find a clone bottom feed one fairly cheap.

Me either. Have had no interest in one since trying my first Reo. Glad you're posting more, I've been the only Reonaut here!

soooooooooooo proud of you!!!!!!!! Wahooooooooooo!!!

Uhmmmm.....s'cuse me........did you not get the memo that this type of behavior is NOT permitted?? Glad you're ok darlin! But since you're not feeling well, be careful.....I'm sure you've got a concussion and they're nuttin to fool with if ya feel wonky.
Have to represent the REO, it's a modwomper's dream machine. Beautiful, reliable, with stock contacts it's got decent power for a mech, if you do your own modifications you can eek out even more.

I'd post pics of my precious, but she needs a bath.

Lessifer explained it all quite well.

No rules says the coil has to be 0.5, build it to what you want and what will fit in the head.
