I found out everyone I work with had their identify data hacked. So, I've been working all morning trying to find out what I need to do. Already, my boss has had 3 people trying to get credit cards in her name.
God! How scary!

Was your work system hacked?

What? Someone hacked the IT department's data?
Or is it the whole district? That's be rather serious if the database they hacked included socials.

That sucks. I had a credit card hacked a couple of years ago. Read up on it and got my records locked at the credit agencies. You can do it on-line in a few hours. That really gives you some serious protection. Someone could still get hold of my credit card information, but they couldn't open a new card or take out a loan in my name.

You can temporarily unlock your records at an agency if you apply for a job or need a loan yourself.

It actually wasn't "our" fault. The Texas Association of School Boards accidentally had the information of almost 1000 school districts open for 3 days. That means, our ss numbers, birth dates, EVERYTHING.

I'm lucky I can at least use English. Now I have to learn brand new languages only spoken by AI programs? I sure hope Rosetta Stone comes out with one of their rapid language packages.

This might not be too terrible. Think of a smart mod that when you plug it in by usb (if it's not wireless by then) and negotiate for the best juice types and prices based on your observed vaping pattern. See, there may an upside to Skynet.;)

Wow!!! Talk about a major lapse in security!!!
This is one of those cases where I bet somebody's head is gonna roll, but it will most likely be a scapegoat rather than the person that was actually responsible for the security lapse.

NOT good, Atch. I agree with Kat that somebody's head should roll. :-(

True, and a very good point, Eskie. That, plus think of how simple vaping will be for ALL of us once they connect us to The Matrix.

Always the optimist, you. I like it. :thumb:

First, I haven't had time to go back and post a "like" for everyone who offered ideas about my "mystery". I'll do that yet today though.

I've got an update though, for anyone interested. Finally had the chance to call Amazon Customer Service just a few minutes ago, after dealing with several elderly parent issues this AM.

The items I received were ordered and shipped July 28th by a person who lives in Savannah, GA. I don't know this person at all...never even heard her name before minutes ago. She placed the order for the items online and paid for them herself, not with either of my CC. SHE entered my full legal name and address to be used for the shipping label. CS rep. could see that in the order info.

So, there was no database mix up, or other way for my information to have ended up on the shipping label. This person...has my information somehow!

I had the representative totally close out my Amazon acct. I last used in 2009. He guaranteed me that any/all of my info. was deleted from Amazon.

Now, I'm stuck with trying to figure out how & why this person even has my info! It's not a comfortable feeling to say the least, because if she has that...what else does she have?

Nah, forget the turned into a battery routine. What will happen is a true neural interface to bathe you in data and totally connected. Sight, sound, taste, smell, even touch, perfectly reproduced and straight into your brain. Should be addictive as hell. Probably have a high mortality rate as folks forget to disconnect to eat. That and the whole bathroom thing will need some serious work before it goes live. Although if your neighbors are getting their smells from elsewhere, maybe no one will notice.

The scary part? There are folks working on the interface right now. Obviously rudimentary, but think what those AIs can figure out, in their own language, to accelerate the design. We're so screwed.

Worrying about credit card hacking and identity theft?

Instead of paying for Life Lock or Zander insurance identity theft protection

Take an almost free two step solution.

    1. Set up an account on Credit Karma. This is free and you can go on daily and see charges to your card, and your credit score.

    2. Contact the three reporting agencies and freeze your credit. They will give you a password. Write the passwords down and store it in your files.

This is free to $10 per credit reporting agency depending on your state of residence.

Well that's suitably creepy. Do you have their contact information? You could call with your caller ID disabled and ask why, or set up a temporary email address and ask that way. I'd be extremely curious to see what the response back would be. At least that way you can show her you know as much about her as she does about you.

I'm no expert but my guess is you were picked completely at random in some fashion, as a test to see if she could get things shipped to a different address than the one Amazon had on file connected to her.
Assuming your name and address is in the phone book anyway.
Here is my best guess, the woman who supposedly paid for the items didn't actually do so. Someone stole her account info. So, they look up a semi random name (especially if your first and last name are somewhat common) and have some small item shipped to that person, and they track the order. If all goes as expected, they then place a larger order using this woman's credit and have it shipped to themself.

'Arrakis' flavor - a spiced tobacco.
HE WHO CONTROLS THE SPICE, CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE!

No, I don't have any info on that flavor, I just love Frank Herbert's Dune.
