Happy Birthday, DP! Back in March I hit the big 70. Still, I'm still riding about 25 miles a week, sometimes more, on my stationary bike. Upstairs, I have a PC in the exercise room where I still do a moderate workout with free weights and a 6 mile stationary bike ride several days a week. The key to exercise boredom is distraction. I have a 19" TV on the wall that's connected to my desktop PC. It's a great distraction that takes the boredom out of an exercise session. Amazon video provides a wide range of documentaries and interesting programming that makes the workout less mundane.

Thanks Dave :)

I'm not lifting at the pace I'd been doing since '79, but I still do it. My subjective preference for distraction is music, but I've used TV too (at times). As long as it's "something". :thumb:

Belated Happy Birthday wishes, Dave. June babies are superior, the rest of the world just hasn't figured it out yet. We'll overlook that you were born under the 'Crab' sign.
You're only about 358 days behind me. Do yourself a favor, apply for Social Security about two months before your next birthday. Our Gub'ment is that slow and incompetent.
Hope you enjoyed your day.

Thanks Brett. I'm the first day of "Crabby", so they tell me I have bits of the twins in me too. I know I'm crabby but not sure about the twins.

"Slow and incompetent"? Say it isn't so! Shocked, I tell you.

I ride my bike outside every other day, weather permitting.
If I had to do the indoor bit, watching a TV, well all I can say is the show would have to be titillating and I'll exercise in the nude, as the ancient Greeks did.

Back when I was 30 or so I worked out at a local gym and my 3rd set of bench presses usually hit 200 pounds on a free weight bar. I'd start on the machines and then do my benches last. These days it's more about maintaining strength and not worrying about the numbers or the weight. I never thought I'd be lifting at my age, but I'm still doing it at a lower level and seeing acceptable results.

yeah, I understand about maintaining strength.
But, what do you mean when you say "acceptable results"?

For those who've been wondering where Uncle has been:

He'd been ill at home for a few days when I emailed him on June 21st to ask where he was, and how he was doing. On the 23rd he was hospitalized. He called me about 6PM tonight, to let me know he was dismissed earlier today and was back home. He said it was OK for me to post here and on the Random DIY thread... to let people know about it, and that he still doesn't feel well and had hardly slept while in the hospital. He was going to hopefully hear from his doctor and then get some much needed sleep. Also said he isn't up to posting on ECF yet.

He then added, in typical Uncle fashion.......that he's hoping to be doing much better soon, but if he's not and something much worse happens...that he'll just hang out and "haunt" us on here. ...................
