Tried a Stardust, want something better?

MiT (Microcig) coined the CE2 & CE3 and complained to BetterLife.
So, BetterLife is going to change the name to CV3.
It's on their homepage and they are also going to rename their CE2's also.
If memory severs me correctly....lol.

Yes, that is the one I use. Hands down, they are the best clearomizer I have owned, they just work perfect everytime.

CE3 from DV = CE3 XL from vapor alley = Phoenix bottom coil from Got Vapes

They are all the same:)

The smokymizer is not the same at all!

I haven't tried the top coil version yet.
What issues are you having with them?

My last box of phoenixs. all 5 of them worked and are still working. I'm having more trouble with the top coils . If you fill the bottom coils right they work great.

For me, the top coil wicks way too well and causes major flooding and juice in mouth. Also, they can leak. You can turn the top seal to remedy the over wicking, but it then cuts the circulation and you get dry hits. If you get it just right, they work good, but then when you refill, the cup moves and the problems start again.

Oh joy!! LOL

Ok, I checked the pics of the top coil and yeah, I don't dig that top seal at all.
I use to get the ones that have two top seals (Edition 4-7/Ultimate's). I remove the larger seal and store it in the 'extra crap' drawer.
Then I trim the inner lip of the doughnut seal; fluff the wicks and install the modified seal.

That was before I switched to the CV3's ;)

bigpman - I appreciate your input. I did order a pack of the Phoenix Top coils ( think I told you that in a previous post), after reading your recommendations on the Phoenix. Hope I didn't screw up getting the topcoil as opposed to the bottom coil. Waiting for my Phoenix topcoils to arrive. I checked out the video reviews on the CE3 XL - aka Phoenix bottom coils you told me about and will have to try those out too. I am going to see how the Phoenix top coils perform first. Kind of tired of buying clearos and then finding them to not work well. The CE3 X7 Smokymizers were crap, the CE2 XL's work for pretty well for the first fill but then not so much. Maybe I am expecting too much to want more than 1 good fill/vape per clearomizer? I know these are considered disposable but I read about people cleaning and resusing them. Plus I think I should get at least a week out of them before they drop in performence right? My newest CE2 I filled, and the first day, it vaped like a champ. Second day, less vapor output and flavor started waning. Third day ready to chuck the thing. deep sigh. So I hope the Phoenix is going to be 'the one' for me. I am using an Ego 650 mah but have an Ego Twist 1000 mah on order so I can ramp up the voltage just a smidge.

thanks again for your help. (^;^)

Oh, so sorry, my posts were strictly written on the bottom coils...I don't think that the top coil was ready for release yet. Sorry for the confusion.... I wish you would have bought the bottom coils, they are amazing out of the box. HOpefully the top coil will not push you away from ordering the BCs, they are a completely different animal. The top coils are ok, not great like the BCs.

Here's a tip. When you get them. Pull our the inner plug and you will notice 2 slits on either side. Put the seal back into the tube, but making sure you turn it a quarter turn from having the slits align with the wicks. Push down gently, not too far in but not too loose, and this will clear up the gurgling and the flooding issue. They do have great flavor and the vapor is nice and warm and thick. The TH is there too. They're just not as fool proof as the bottom coils are....

Of course give one a try, straight out of the box first, to see if you like it without the mod. To me, with 70/30vg juice, I got major gurgling and some spit up.

Sorry again for any confusion in my posts:(

Guys, I found a great replacement for the Stardust:

E3 Rebuildable Clearomizer

This thing looks just like the Stardust, but you can unscrew the entire tube from the base and the atomizer is replaceable. I've been using one, since yesterday, and they have great performance. The only thing I did to it was:

1. I removed the extra piece of wick that sits on top of the coil. This was muting flavor.

2. I cut the wicks short, just like the V2 stardust. I believe that long wicks just cause flavor issues and make the juice get dark when you get to the bottom of the clearo.

Here's a pick of my mod:

I recommend these to anyone that likes the Stardust look and doesn't want to deal with syringes for filling. I am still a huge CE3 fan, so this will not 100% replace the CE3 for me, but is a great option:)

Also, they hold a tad bit more juice than the Stardust, maybe another 0.4ml...

I posted this in the KR8 section, it may help a few here also....

Most of my CE3/CV3's are 2.4-2.6 ohm so the wife could use them on her KGO, a few are 2.8-3.0.
I vape the 2.4-2.6 @ 4.2-4.5 volts as that seems to be the sweet spot for me.
Most of my juice is 70/30 PG/VG, so I trim the wicks @ 45 degrees.
This seemed to really bring the flavor out of the juice.

View attachment 108147

A buddy uses higher VG, so he is getting better flow by trimming the wicks flush with the tube.

Even though 90% of my juice is 70/30, some seem 'thicker' than others and seems to give dry hits or less flavor.
That's when I gently rock the tube a little which will raise the center post; take a few test puffs and repeat until the flavor shows up.
I did trim one flush, but @ 70/30, it seemed to leak a little.

The wife was a die hard stardust user and I just converted her the other day.
She was jealous of the clouds of vapor I was getting :)

Occasionally, while rocking the tube, it may raise to far and I have to push it back down and start over. (Do this step off the batt as it may push juice out.)

Once it's set, it's good to go and I can refill several times with the same juice and get good flavor & vapor with no issues.
Now if they could make the center tube with threads so you could dial it in, that would be awesome :p

Edit: off topic, but how's that Provari treating you?

Oh great I have the order in for top coils - not bottom coil Phoenix. crap. I don't want anymore dry hits. Got that with
the CE3 X7S smokeymizers- wasted around $10 on the pack of those.
sigh.

Those are not the same. Bottom coil from discountvapers, vaporalley or GV are the ones I am talking about:)

I just read that in your post. But my order has been shipped. So can't change it now.
DEEP SIGH and frown. Was so hoping for that ultimate vaping experience you were describing with the Phoenix. Should've waited till I talked to you before I ordered.

Sorry cocoa:( They do have great flavor and vapor, so you should be happy in that department. You will just find yourself blowing through the TC, when it's been sitting on its side, to clear out the air tube to stop the gurgling. Not a complete waste of money, but not as good as the BC. Fiddle with the top seal too, might help, and this will all depend on what type of juice you run through the too...

Yes. I got 5 for the wife and she said that she really can't tell a difference.
They are top coil design and just like the CE2's, they will wick certain parts of the joose faster leaving the heavier particulates at the bottom.

I do not know why, but the longer wick ones do not do this nearly as much ad the short wick ones for me. I tend to go through a tank full and can refill a few times without the juice getting very dark. Still does it, just not as bad IME.

They still have the stiff draw, like sucking a milkshake through a straw.
I did dremel a few to improve airflow, but the thick joose left behind was the deal breaker.

So are CE2's better? That depends on the manufacturer really as it seems different manufacturers use different wicking materials.
I use to buy 1 pk of CE2's & 1 pk of CE3's every month. The newer CE3's are mainly from BetterLife and the CE2's would be from a different manufacturer to see who had the better wicking material.
After getting the CE3/CV3's to work, I have since stored all my CE2's as the CV3 is about as close to dripping as far as flavor & vapor goes.
Whatever you decide to use, as long as it works for you, go for it :)
