Contradicting or correcting someone is fine. It is ALL in how it is done. Posting correct information without attacking the person that is being corrected, would be ok. Calling someone an idiot or any other derogatory name....well that just is not ok.

We do like a good debate, information gets put out there on both sides of issues. Name calling or a flat out pissing contest will get acted on.

Use the mind not the brawn :D

Of course. Typically I just walk away, because I'm not the ECF police and I don't want to start a pissing contest. Occasionally I'll be snide, but not derogatory. Sarcasm is all about insulting people in a matter that they don't understand, right? Just kidding, just kidding.

The first one or two will get deleted. Then there will be a Reminder or two. After that.. game on!

GN! who dat?!

This has not been my experience with enforcement here at ECF, albeit... I have only had a single infraction (last I checked)... justice was swift and all of a sudden I had a Profile Rule Reminder infraction with an expiration date. In this case, I don't mind at all though, because I think if a rule is worth having it should be enforced... and with so much money in vape gear/etc... and so many visitors here... it would be trashed in no time if the mods weren't doing their thing :2cool: I think it was harsh not to just send a PM to a newb user since the issue was already taken care of... but again, that's just fine, it's within the rules to do so, but... I will never personally tell someone that they will get a warning first or anything like that... I'll tell them how things work based on my own experience... if you get caught, it will get corrected <period>.

I have a hard time letting poor advice, worthless drivel, and general ignorance slide, especially when it comes from a place intended to help people. I've seen members with thousands of posts give just completely wrong information. This is the worst kind of unintentional troll as far as I'm concerned. Far more dangerous than shills from outside, misinformation from within, whether it be intentional or just ignorance is very harmful.

Vaping is not always black and white. Some people like mechs, some people like regulated mods. Some people think cucumbers taste better pickled... However there are things that are absolute. Battery safety, math, nic safety. I see wrong numbers and figures thrown around by veterans on this site and it pisses me off. I also see lots of opinion represented as fact. I've been shocked by the general civility on this forum, however a little disappointed in it, maybe we're civil to a fault. People need to be corrected when they are wrong, whether the have 15 posts or 15000.

All this to say we are our worst enemy. Or something. This whole diatribe may be completely off topic, and if it is I apologize. Just something I had on my mind. I'll go back to vaping and tracking my Fasttech orders now.

Agreed, that does happen. Sometimes it's just an error on the poster's part, sometimes it's just flat out bad advice. Other than that, nothing to add to what Robin already said above.

Since you mentioned it (which we shouldn't be doing), you had a "Rule Reminder" that showed up in your Infractions tab. It's where Reminders and Infractions go. That was a warning. An infraction carries points. Points stack up with repeated infractions and have consequences. There are no limits to the number of Reminders you can get, but there is definitely a limit on the number of Infractions you collect.

Jerry has been around for almost 5 years, and it's become a sort of a joke that he does not have a single Reminder/Infraction yet. Does that mean he is flawless? no.. it just means that he knows how to play within the rules. Not that hard once you get that part figured out.

Just checked and you got a rule reminder. No infraction. No points associated with RR's. The expiration date just kinda tags along. If it was an infraction, then the expiration date is valid and the point(s) associated with the infraction would then expire.

Basically a rule reminder is just that...a gentle way of letting you know what the rules are. :)

Think of it as a nudge instead of a slap on the hand. ;)
A PM would be a whisper in the ear.

I have had my fun, now to get serious for a moment.

My two cents worth of advice is; don't tangle with trolls, troublemakers and the like. If you see something that appears to be against the rules and/or disruptive, report it. Let the moderators deal with it, that's their job.

And with that bit of sage advice, I'll take your leave for now. Thank you for the lovely evening folks!

To be honest, Dusty, while I try to play by the rules, my lack of infractions is just pure dumb luck. :p
