For you two guys having issues, do you have pics of your builds?

I've shown pics of a build or two of mine before. An earlier suggestion based on one of those was to ensure the wick does not touch the build deck air hole at all. I tried that a couple of different ways, using more coil wraps being my preferred method to help assure that (pushes the wick away from that air inlet - and possible juice outlet). Good suggestions. Did not help with preventing fill leaks though. I have also in combination with that played around with how much wick I use, and how of it goes in the wick holes as well, but that hasn't helped either.

My builds on the Serpent Minis have not been an issue as far as leakage goes, so I do not think my coil and wick were the problem. I've gotten tired of the whole issue with both RTAs, and I just don't mess around with either Goblin Mini V3 anymore. Saves on frustration. I now concentrate, when I have the time, on improving my Serpent Mini builds for good MTL vapor, draw and flavor. They hold a little more juice too, which I like. I am hopeful the Merlin will be a little better, though it is a touch big for my taste. Ditto for the kayfun Mini V3.

i'm still rocking the same build since i got it. still zero leak issues. i'll see if i can get another pic with my wicking. but here's the coil. .8ohm at 30w does it for me.

i had the same issue with merlin. i think i am doing something wrong with this kind of deck (single coil velocity deck)

edit... dual coil setup is amazing... better than GM v2

My Serpent Mini RTA has its issues too. It can still seep juice sometimes, just not nearly as badly as my GM V3s. I like the vape I get off of it, but it is not as good a vape as I could get off the GM V3s when they are at their best. I wouldn't actually recommend a Serpent Mini at this point, anymore than I would a Goblin Mini V3. I am only using the Serpent Minis somewhat more because they are less leak prone and finicky than the Goblin Mini V3s that I've experienced so far, and I have no other RTAs to play with - as of yet.

I'm going on a long, overnight road trip in an hour or two. I won't be bringing either RTAs, just a Prism T22, an eLeaf GS-Air M, and a Kabuki clone tank. I'm only bringing the T22 just because I have several spare coils for it - though it is the worst of my MTL clearomizers. Unfortunately, I have almost no coil heads for the Nautilus coil using Kabuki clone, or the GS-Air M. I checked at a local retailer today. They wanted $20 for a 5-pack of Nautilus coil heads, ugh! I'd have bought them anyway if I had any faith left in Aspire's Nautilus coil head quality, but I do not. They had no GS-Air coil heads. That is too bad as I only have 1 used coil head left for the GS-Air. It is actually not a bad MTL clearomizer tank overall - being almost on par with anything that uses Nautilus coils, though the coil heads still tend not to last very long.

I'm disappointed I haven't gotten things working out well yet with a good MTL RTA. I have to go on these long overnight road trips once and awhile for work. For that I need something that is pretty easy to work with and very reliable. Neither the Serpent Mini or Goblin Mini V3 have proven good enough for me to depend on for extended use away from home.

It won't help for your trip but might want to check out the reviews of the Siren GTA (MTL) by Digiflavor. It sounds like it could be a winner for MTL RTA. I don't MTL but might grab a couple for the stash for roomies after I read some more user reviews and can find them on a good sale as normal price seems to be about $33 online.

That's a curious looking RTA. I checked it out. Pricing seems a little high for now, and no credible reviews yet, so I'll save that as something to check back on later. It is good to see something new in an RTA oriented toward us MTL folks. I hope to see more innovative MTL RTAs in the future.

i'm not sure how you feel about clones, but i hear the Origen OT-22, Origen Tiny Tank and Rose V3 clones are great MTL tanks. i guess if you have cash to spare, you can get the originals. check out reviews of these if you haven't already.

I finally received two Augvape Merlin RTAs I ordered a few weeks ago from FT. I tried doing a 1.4 ohm, 10 wrap, 4mm inner diameter, single 28 gauge SS 316L build that ended up reading 1.15 ohms. Not too big a deal as I just wanted to tryout TC for the first time on my iStick Pico.

I noticed neither tank sits entirely flush on my iStick Pico (less than half a millimeter gap), but then noticed apparently none of my other tanks did either, so I stopped being concerned with that. I used the installed (but removable) deck airflow hole restriction screw, which reduces the bell chamber's air hole size to about a 2.5mm diameter, then also switched out the wide bore drip tip for one of my preferred narrow bore MTL ones.

These tanks appear to be well machined, but they are an average height 510 drip tip taller than a Goblin Mini V3 because they hold 4ml of juice. I like the extra juice capacity, but I'd prefer a shorter setup. The Merlin is a 23mm outer diameter tank - that just (barely) fits on my iStick Pico without any rubbing, or other fit and function issues.

The Augvape Merlin's velocity deck is pretty easy to work on, just like the GM V3. The design of the wick chambers (cups?) and juice flow holes makes these tanks easier to wick in comparison to the GM V3 or Serpent Mini. I did not trim my rayon wick quite as much as I have on previous builds. This has worked out well. I have topped off one of the tanks a few times now without any seepage or leakage issues thus far, but I have only been playing with the tank one day.

Now I'm just trying to figure out good TC settings for this mouth-to-lung setup. It seemed to run just a little hot and harsh at first (using 3mg nicotine level juice), so I dropped the temp down to around 400F at around 12W. That seemed to work okay, though the taste I'm getting seems a little weird regardless. Is a break-in period required to improve the taste? A 4mm inner diameter coil is pretty big. I may need to use more rayon, as I could be tasting the SS coil too much?

I'll try getting closer to a 1.4 ohm build next time. With TC I'm not sure resistance matters all that much, but I still want this to be a fairly low power using setup. I also want to try my hand at rebuilding my GM V3 and Serpent Mini RTAs - as I don't think I used long enough, or thick enough, wick in those. Maybe there is still a chance I can get some use out of them. I am hoping so. In the meantime I am pleased with my results thus far with the Augvape Merlin. I'd like to try a 30 gauge double twisted SS 316L build on this too, but am having a hard time finding it online. Anyone know who would have that? Such an animal does exist, right?

This is a pic of my current Merlin build. The wire wrap and spacing is far from perfect, but it works. I apologize for the lack of clarity. Photo taken with an iPhone 5.

Funny. Even with a 1.4 ohm coil build, my iStick Pico still reads 1.15 ohms, just like with the above build (that is actually maybe about 1.25 ohms). That above build runs anyway in SS TC mode, but the 1.4 ohm one (also SS 316L) does not (works fine in wattage mode though, of course). I wonder what the heck is up with that? I thought TC mode on the iStick Pico could run up to 1.5 ohms? None of that makes any sense to me. I guess I need to build lower resistance coils for TC to work properly.

Maybe that displayed 1.15 ohms is the SS TC build limit? I wish I knew for sure. The Merlin is doing fine in wattage mode with the 30 gauge SS coil, 3mm ID, about 8 wraps. A 3mm inner diameter is easy to wick with Rayon, as it is just half a full diameter strand of the stuff - straight out of the box. I'm definitely getting better flavor and it appears to wick well. Still no leak or seepage issues. I think I will just try double twisted 30 gauge Kanthal next, for another straight wattage mode vape - at least until I can figure out TC a little better.

My Kayfun Mini V3s came in yesterday. They look short and slim compared to the Merlin. I haven't built anything on them yet. The drip tips on them are fit so tight I almost thought they were built in and non-removable at first. Not a single one of my other drip tips fits them. The fit being just too tight. I'm a little disappointed by that. I don't personally like metal drip tips.

I have an interesting finding. I've had some problems with leakage when refilling, more with the stainless one that is a little loose than the black one. My finding is that if I screw the top back on without the drip tip installed, then I have no leakage at all. If I leave the tip installed when putting the top on it is likely to leak, and often will be difficult to get the top on at all.

It does tend to push up the drip tip when screwing the top cap on. At least it does it with the Merlin drip tip.

Both of mine do that with any drip tip I have. It is annoying. Having to take the drip tip off every time you refill, to help prevent leaks, that sounds annoying too - though I guess it isn't that big a deal if it works. So many of these top fill tanks are so finicky. I used to think a top fill setup would be the bee's knees, but now I am not so enamored by it. Any time I read someone say, "It only holds 2mls of juice, but it is top fill, so it doesn't matter so much", it makes me want to groan.

    Somewhere between here and there
That's odd. I have had the goblin for some time now and have only once ever had a leak and that was a wicking problem. I even bought the extension for it. If I had one complaint it would be that I have a hard time taking the top cap off to refill. I probably tighten it too much when I put it back together.
