I did make myself quite sick... but that was due to user error.

Nicotine content too high can result in unwanted symptoms... OF COURSE I ordered the strongest juice I could find! (bigger is ALWAYS better... lmao)

It took me awhile of feeling nasty, and reading this board... to determine that what I did was ......ed, and kinda like refilling all my ink carts with a crap load of black ink, and expecting my printer to print in colour.

So, I cut the juice (high) with approx one part juice to 3 parts VG... the medium I will have to cut half and half.

Somehow it escaped me when I did the rough calculations, that even tho I smoked over two packs a day... a good share of them burned up in the ash tray while I was fiddling about with my adding machine and stuff.

Then a few (every day) got bummed out... so my ACTUAL smoke count was way less than my purchased smoke count.

(Now, if I've done anything ELSE ......ed with my cutting of the stuff... jump in and tell me if you know... and yes, the VG is food grade quality.)

Anyhow... even tho I did manage to make myself rather ill... (no worse than eating bad Mexican food) I have gone from approx 2.5 packs a day... to ten ciggs a day... and there was no panic today when I checked my analog pack, an found FIVE ciggs.
They are sitting RIGHT THERE on my desk... just in case, and I may buy a new pack to stick in the freezer for emergencies :)

I'm actually quite pleased... as I had no real interest in quitting... I just didn't want to spend almost twenty bucks a day on smoking...

well i've only been doing the e-cig thing since last friday.. about a week ago, and i only figured out how to really get good use out of it until a few days ago when i found this site. anyways been 3 days since i have had a real cigarette and the only side effects i have experienced are a little bit of sneezing, runny nose, and dry throat. the sneezing and runny nose can probably be attributed to all of this pollen though.

Yeah - vaping won't help allergies. But most mention dry throat, including myself. Drink while your vaping if possible. (water, soda, coffee, etc.)

What mg was the high that you cut? I have 24 mg here that I'm trying to figure out how to cut to at least 12 if not lower. I never smoke my analogs farther than maybe 2/3rds down and like you said, I'm usually doing other things so they burn away in the ashtray. Did you have to thin the VG? I'm trying to get a good formula to get this stuff cut so I can start vaping today! Also trying to find the very best way to fill the empty dura carts that I got...

I've been vaping for 7 weeks. No analogs what so ever since my first 901 came in the mail...

The only SE's I had were ones mentioned already here: Dry throat, some minor skin erruptions, sticky fingers, etc.

I sleep better
I'm still occasionally coughing, but that's when a vape goes down 'wrong'
Smell and Taste are returning
I'm actually happier - laughing and smiling more (I attribute this to less guilt over what I'm doing to my body)

We had a wicked spring cold run through the office - everyone got sick, coughing and hacking for weeks - I had the sniffles for a day or 2. I take that as a sign my immune system is ramping up now that I'm no longer poisoning it with analogs...but that's NOT a medical opinion..

IF I remember right, there was a fairly basic formula for cutting down liquid in the DIY section, damned if I remember where it was....but Kate and Walrus are two of the experts, here...

I am inclined to say I was the exception more than the rule. I had a side effect and it got progressively worse with time.

I started with a SmokingEverywhere GOLD at the end of January. I did not know about this forum and got it at a local mall. I was using the official SmokingEverywhere carts exclusively for about 6 weeks, till mid march.

That was when I ran into a friend who suggested I go to a different mall where they sell just the liquids. So I went to that other mall and started buying PG based liquids.

Things were going well for two or three weeks but I noticed my throat was getting dry very easily and I was drinking a lot more water than usual. I started looking around the net for health related info regarding e-cigs and that is how I found this forum.

I read here that dry throat is a fairly common thing and it usually passes so I paid it no mind and just continued to drink water.

Unfortunately things did not get better, they got worse.

Now keep in mind, it is now the middle of April and up till this time I have only used SmokingEverywhere carts PG juice I got at my local mall. I have not gotten anything from the internet yet because I had laid in enough supply of liquid from my mall that I had no reason to buy anything else.

Well when the throat thing continued to get worse I ordered some stuff from online. I got two sampler packs, one PG and one non PG. I got a PG sampler pack because I was not sure how reputable the information and product I was being given at the mall was. I wanted to make sure it was a PG thing and not just something that only they did, like some sort of 'cut' in the liquid.

I got a sampler pack from PureSmoker that has PG and used those for a few days. The problem persisted and leads me to conclude it is likely a reaction to PG.

I broke out a brand new atomizer and for the last day or so I have been using JohnsonCreek non-PG and it is to soon to tell if it is really making a difference or it is just wishfull optomisim creating a psychosematic impression that it is improving but I really feel like I want to say I am feeling a difference.

I will update the thread in a few days or a week and tell how the change to non-PG is effecting me.

CAUTION!!! DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU ARE EASILY GROSSED OUT!!!!
I have also noticed that I occasionally cough up phlem with brown speckles in it. I am unsure if it is related to e-smoking or if it is the result of stopping 25 years of analog smoking or if it is because my job that causes me to breathe a multitude of contaminants daily.

When I smoked analogs I would sometimes cough up phlem with brown swirls in it. What I am experiencing now is different. I am paying attention to it and will consult a doctor if it does not change but for the moment I am going stick with my inclination that it is a temporary thing and even has a possibility of being a positive thing because it seems as if my body is expelling something bad.

What I do know is I feel healthier e-smoking than I ever did smoking analogs. I have more energy and I run out of breath less frequently. I commute using a railroad and I no longer cringe when the escelator is not on and I have to climp 37 steps to the platform. Instead i do it with ease and never break my stride. I no longer have to take a break at the top to cough and weeze. IMHO, that is a big improvement.

" The more I read, the more I read people having allergies, tightness in the chest, dream issues, sleep walking....yikes! People are reporting SE's showing up awhile after starting vaping. "

Really?
I did a ton of research before I bought mine- seriously my eyes hurt from reading- and the only side effects that have been consistently reported IMO was slight irritation in throat/chest (and that was mostly in users who went from nic gum or patches and hadn't smoked in a while and/or users who started out way to high nic) and a dry mouth.

I did read some people saying they were getting headaches, nausea, etc, but again- thats all the signs of over doing it or having too high of a nic.

I'm happy to say that other than an occasional watery cough, I haven't had any significant side effects. I use VG base too but don't inhale. I guess the vapor finds it's way into my lungs anyway.

And Mary, if you see this, I also used to wake up in the middle of the night and smoke. When I asked my dr about it, he said it was the nicotine craving/withdrawal that was waking me up.

When I first started vaping ....I was using 11 mg juice and carts. I smoked 25 analogs a day so I thought medium would do the trick for me. Well within 2 days my head was hurting so bad and it felt like my eyes were going to pop out of my head. I have a history of high bp and take meds for it. After a couple days I realized that the headache was caused by high blood pressure. I took my bp and it was 192/96. I posted on this board about my symptoms and some GREAT people told me that it sounded like nicotine overdose. Nicotine is a stimulant and it was definitely stimulating my bp. lol So I went back to analogs until I could get my bp under control again. It took about 5 days. I then went to my pharmacy and ordered pg...cut my juice in half to 5.5 ml and have been vaping now for 10 days with absolutely NO side effects. It's wonderful! It's because of many good people on this board that I didn't give up and I am so grateful! My best advice is to start with the lowest mg of juice and see if it curbs your desire for analogs. If it doesn't then up the mg of juice. I hope you have a GREAT vaping experience.

I get shortness of breath immediately after I vape and it makes me wheez too. (Feels like anxiety) It also makes my eyes red. I've been waking up hot in the middle of the night and trouble falling back asleep.

I only use no or low nicotine

Are you using VG, PG or a combination of both? I've got a terrible sore throat but my vaping has really been minimal anyway so I'm not so sure it's relevant. I've also had a few hot flashes, which also my not be due to vaping, if you get my drift.

The only se I have noticed is the LACK of coughing my head off first thing in the morning. I was smoking a pack a day and am now down to 4 or 5 cigs a day. Having too much fun trying and mixing different flavors. My fav so far is Johnson Creek chocolate almond that I cut with 50% vg and add cherry flavor Lorains. Chocolate covered cherry. YUM

And don't forget that what one may initially think are the SE's of starting vaping may well be the SE's of quitting cigarettes.
Most of the side effects are probably withdrawal from all the other chemicals in cigarettes and not due to vaping unless you are allergic to PG. I ordered all my nic liq in VG.

Almost ALL the side effects I have seen people list ARE listed as nic withdrawal symptoms. It bothers me that the PV gets blamed! lol

Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms

  • Cravings to smoke
  • Irritable, cranky
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Inability to Concentrate
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Constipation, gas, stomach pain
  • Dry mouth
  • Sore tongue and/or gums
  • Postnasal drip
  • Tightness in the chest

Not disputing your list, just wondering why withdrawal would cause a sore throat? I've cut down on analogs but not quit but only vaped a very little as I'm trying to get a mix/taste I like. I got a horrible sore throat after starting to use PG. Unfortunately, I can't stand the taste of VG so I'm trying to find a happy medium.

I have ALWAYS gotten a raw throat from ceasing tobacco use. Doc said it was from the post nasal drip that happens when sinuses begin to clear up.

Strictly PG, Im too scared to try VG...I've never had hot flashes before and Im only 32 so I doubt its MP related .. :)
