It will not. To start with, plain packaging won't deter under-age vaping. Let's get real here, the "children" don't buy vape-stuff based on fanciful packaging or branding. Look at the product the ANTZ currently rant about the most in the US, the juul. It comes in some of the most plain packaging of any vape product.


Bans don't work. See Prohibition or the War on (some) Drugs. A ban will just create an informal (underground/black) market, and all the problems associated with such a market.

Should maybe clarify I don't want cigarettes banned - I just use that argument to face off people who say they want vaping banned, or treated more severely than smoking is.

And I refer to plain packaging vape products because that's how cigarettes are sold in my country. It's not something I think is particularly effective but that's the way it is.

So I think yeah, fine, if the government regulate vaping in exactly the same way smoking is will keep the public guardians happy it's fine by me. They can't use that position against vaping then.

There is something to keep in mind when we think about tobacco and the powers of BT and how they even influenced the TCA in the US. The US relied on tobacco as a major part of its economy when founded. It continued to make up an important segment of the economy for generations. It remains a major export to this day. American tobacco sells really well outside the US.

If you go to "tobacco country" you'll still find resistance to attempts at limiting and eliminating tobacco products (tobacco, not the vaping "this is a tobacco product"). It a threat to their livelihoods. It's a threat to their state economies. It's enough to throw elections.

Tobacco isn't a hot button topic just because there are big companies involved, or even that there are smokers, it's that it contributed, and still contributes, to this country's economic success and remains an exportable cash crop to this day.

I don't know if Players still package their cigarettes like this in Canada, but in the late nineties each pack prominently displayed either some horrific statistic or a terrifying picture (blackened lungs, mouths ravaged by cancer, etc.). Perhaps this put off some would-be smokers; I don't know. It certainly didn't faze the many smokers of my acquaintance.

Mid 70's they had a machine in the entranceway to Brighams.
In the entry room between the entrance door and the exit door.
That's where I got mine sometimes when I was a mid-teen.

The industry marketed vaping toward minors with their juice box look a likes etc etc. What amazes me is the shock everyone seemed to display when the fda cracked down on it. Too little too late. The "adult" vapors should have self governed that crap before it got outta hand.
Of course kids are coming to you for vaping paraphernalia. We, meaning all of us contributed to the delinquency of a generation of minors.

I gotta disagree. The industry made their packages appealing to adults as well as children. I recently tried Pop Clouds Cherry. The label looks like Pop Rocks and drew my attention away from the other 600 bottles for sale in the store. I'm 55 and it seems to me the packaging did its job. Did you expect them to ship juice bottles with black and white labels that just said "Ejuice - Raspberry Surprize" on the front? How would you have recommended we self govern? Should we have stormed the manufacturers with torches and pitchforks and demanded they remove their colorful labels? I haven't contributed to the delinquency of any minors (Unless you count going down the maternity ward and vaping Bubble Berry Breastmilk around the babies while their mothers slept as "contributing" to minors)

I am for any hard measures against vaping. Those who really needs it are already stocked with all the things they need. Death to vaping industry!

Why do you think there will ever be a "last ex-smoker"? Smoking has been with us for hundreds of years (and thousands of years among native Americans). I don't think it will disappear completely within a foreseeable number of generations. Making it illegal won't work either; just look at all the other stuff that's already illegal (but readily available anyway).

Agree... I don't mind cloud chasers or competitions... If that's the reason an adult vapes then cool beans, rock on!

I just don't think the rhetoric used by anti vaping peeps that juice is marketed towards children is legit... It's nothing more than hysterical based fear... Bubble gum juice? I am 53 and chew gum. Cereal juice? I eat cereal... Ect, ect, ect...

Products are always going to be labeled and marketed in an appealing manner. I don't vape flavored juice and vape plain ole' pg/vg mix but I fail to see how making the juice bottle look colorful and appealing equates as it's being marketed towards children.

My guess is even if all juices were required to be in a plane bottle with plane jane black and white lettering that the anti vape peeps would still find something else to complain about or they'd still attack the juice because ya know, they are gum, cereal, ect flavored and intended to entice children.....

There are some sketchy vape shops out there and when one is busted for selling to underage people, the anti crowd pounces on it.. Vape shops need to card everyone. Even my ugly 53-year-old mug....

My b&m cards everyone, including me. Ive shopped there since they opened in 2012. To boot, I’ve known the manager since he was friends with my daughter in high school (they’re mid 20’s now). It’s the house rule. It protects them to do so. Shoot, at my age, it’s the ONLY place I get carded any more

Ditto …. I used to buy my Mother's cigarettes all of the time as I was sent to the store for her …. Sounds strange in today's society but that is the way it was with lots of folks back then.

Maybe if they have a blind doorman , I MIGHT get carded. Of course, if it’s just pubs, I’m happy to jump on a plane and come back to England. Too many fuzzy, fond memories of Oxford’s pubs and wine bars. And, the UK is vaping friendly! Sad when travel choices are made by legalities
