im really bummed out. i went to the dr today and he asked me how long i had been vaping. i told him proudly 2 months. he looked at me in horror and said 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why didnt u just do the patch. ud be done by now and nicotine/tobacco free. is this the way it goes with drs? or was this just a really bad experience. i didnt even know what to say to him. i havent had a real cig in 1 1/2 months. i smoked 2 packs a day for 25 yrs. i thought hed be just a little supportive and he just thought i was nuts. has anyone else experienced any of this. what did u say. how do u handle drs. i was just at a loss for words.....

if i get a doctor like that, i will just simply tell him that when i first started vaping i was @ 36mg -- now i am down to 11mg -- pretty soon i will be down to 6mg and so on

then i would remind him that i tried the patch once -- but it just wouldnt stay lit :p

You could handle this by firing that doctor and hiring a new one. A medical professional that doesn't recognize the significance of a heavy smoker having given them up is clueless... "just do the patch"... right... "f'off".

This has been an interesting thread. I am not due to see my Doctor for another 3 months. I am not sure right now if I should even bother telling him.

IMO, it's always worth it to mention it. From what I've read on the forum, more doctors are interested and supportive than not. Many even start recommending them to their other smoking patients. Just be sure to come prepared with a few print outs so you can explain what's going on. You may inspire them to spread the word.

good luck :)

I was the same way. I had an app't. with my doctor before I actually started vaping and told him that I was going to finally take his advice and try and quit smoking (but I left out the part where I was considering e-cigs). He gave me several suggestions and vaping was one of them! I was pleasantly surprised.

I am a newbie and haven't even purchased an ecig as of yet but will just trying to decide on which company to start with. I told my primary care doctor bout it and was scoffed at! I told my pulmonary doctor and he said, " do whatever it takes to stop smoking those cigarettes that kill you! Something is better than nothing." Needless to say, I have a new primary now who doesn't scoff at my efforts!

Nicotine addiction isn't my disability...I have a nervous system disability that nicotine interferes with...sorry for the misunderstanding...also sorry for mentioning medical_____. I am such a noob with a lot to learn about forums. I swears I read the rules several times. I've joined 3 forums in the last month and I think I've got TMI of the brain LOL.

Basically my fine motor skills are shot and I have constant pain. Anyone who deals with nerve pain knows this is a hell you won't wish on your worst enemy...even a tyrant! It's funny that my doc had just assumed all those Chantix prescriptions worked...I mean, why would I keep asking over and over again for it?! If it's out there, I've tried it...been smoking for 34 years. This time, not only am I satisfying that hand-to-mouth action, but I've also lost weight, which really surprised me. THAT has never happened before! I am incredibly thankful for discovering ecigs, as I was to the point of having things coughed up that looked like they should have stayed inside my lungs. Scary stuff! Now to get in my order of VG as I find I am allergic to PG...but I don't have any cravings for an analog, even though I haven't been able to vape much because of the PG. That spells success in my book.

wow i like that. its a process not an event. sound like something we can all use. i figure its like ppl going on a diet. all the fad diets will take the weight off. it just doesnt keep it off. there is no quick fix for any of this be it weight or smoking or whatever. i just dont think they get it.... and yes i agree caffeine is the same kind of addiction..... but the politically correct movement hasnt gone after caffiene so its not a big deal. no one is looking at me funny for having a cup of tea or a pepsi in my hand.... but light up.... omg u would swear u were a criminal. all of its hard to stay away from. we are dependent. the problem is that the politically correct world has decided that the smokers need to be shreaded and hung out to dry. we are their big deal right now. years ago it was alcohol and prohibition. that didnt work and this wont either. u cant just make ppl stop smoking. its not that easy...... and if u want to see ppl quit u have to look into realistic was to help them to it and stay quit..... thats my thoughts. so i just dont see why its such a big deal that we vape. its healthier for us and for others and it would seem that we have a better chance of quitting totally if that is what we want to do.

thanks all for ur insite.

now thats interesting. ive ehard of ppl that were allergic to pv..... how did u find out. what did it do to u. im very interested...

YOu'd probably know if you were, it's usually your basic allergic reaction.... but from the lungs out. Difficult breathing, sometimes mouth sores, stuff like that. It goes away when you switch to VG, sometimes even if you just lower the PG down to about 50%-60%.

It's very very rarely a serious allergic reaction and I've never heard of it being like a peanut allergy type of reaction.
