unfortunately, a lot of people simply do not understand what the true dangers of cigarettes are...and why vaping is NOT the same. when i switched, i was quite proud of myself and shared with many coworkers the change i had made. i said "i stopped smoking!" and everyone was congratulatory. when followed with "i started vaping," most smiles fell and i got a lot of "oh, well you didn't REALLY stop, then."

the fact that a non-smoker doesn't understand is somewhat defensible. however, the fact that someone who is vaping made the comment is a bit surprising. perhaps this is an opportunity to share and educate.

The power of propaganda. There was a concerted worldwide effort decades ago to equate nicotine with smoking. To attribute all the evils of smoking to nicotine. People that have fallen for that propaganda (and it is most people, to some degree) believe nicotine is carcinogenic, for example, and causes heart disease, all the maladies of smoking. It is a total lie and falsehood, but a lie repeated endlessly, for decades on end, becomes a truth of sorts.

It sometimes takes a lot of willpower to walk away from that propaganda and this thread is a great example of that.

The mg of nicotine kinda irrelevant we all have different vape styles. I use 6mg but im chucking massive milky clouds compared to a lil tooter with 24mg mouth to lunging. I would think we probally getting around same amount of nicotine after a vape session. To many righteous ppl around these days thinking we should do what they say because there way is right way...

Those things are worse than cigarettes.

There... you heard it from me, it must be true. I heard it from a couple of people over the past winter. So I'm sure its true.

The power of propaganda

This so much. I had a woman tell me that they cut the juices with formaldehyde the other day. At least she was willing to listen and realized she was wrong after I explained it to her.

Yeah, I would definitely have preferred to educate her. When I attempted to, she told the other lady in the room that they should come back another time because my coworker knows more than I do. It was incredibly insulting because like I said, I have a degree in chemistry and am working toward another one and spend a lot of time reading studies about vaping. You just can't win with some people.

well if that statement is true then I should be dead and gone by now.... 36nic is all I vape... and even go up to 40nic on occasions when things get stressy.... dont need much of it either... couple of good pulls on the CLT and Im good for a while, no need to chain vape 3nic to become satisfied...

I get this alot, especially from my father.
It is somewhat understandable, he is 68 years old and has never smoked or used tobacco in any form his whole life. So to him, it's all the same thing.
Sure, the long term effects of vaping have not yet been studied or verified because it's so new.
We can all agree it's much safer than the combustion of tobacco and chemicals, those of which are marketed ruthlessly and indiscriminately to make as much money as possible. BIG tobacco does this without any moral dilemma whatsoever.

Well; At least you didnt have some guy coming up to you, pointing to your mod and stating bs [Moderated], "that is very very harrrm fooll," takes out a pack of smokes, lights up one cigarette and tells you that it is healthier way to smoke and half the time during his elaborated, yet unwarranted explanation regarding his age, how long has he been smoking for and why vaping is not the right way to smoke, you are sitting there thinking if he is fully [Moderated] and extremely misinformed to the point where you cant correct him.

I started off with 6 mg because I was smoking half a pack at work, but now since I started coughing, I reduced the nic down to 3. I dont know how you guys do it but I cant do it with anything more then 6.

Please note though: there I am not trying to compare cigarettes with PV's, I only have nicotine amount numbers in mind..

24 mg is needed for the little cigalikes.
I think cigalikes are up around the 48-56 range, because the 'nic delivery' of devices like that is very inefficient.

When I first switched to vaping, I used 24mg and within a month I noticed my senses coming back, I could smell and taste again. Where as before I was feeling like I always had a cold, I had shortness of breath. That's mostly gone now. So to say it's just as bad as smoking in my opinion is false the only problem I had was spilling juice on my fingers and it burnt a little.

24mg "sounds" like too much, but the absorption rate for vaping seems to be different than an analogue cigarette, and much lower. There are many chemicals in analogues designed soley to enhance the speed and efficiency of nicotine absorption, such as ammonia to raise the ph, and many more. Next time someone tells you that, just nicely ask that they research nicotine itself, and not nicotine from cigarette smoke. They are two different creatures. Also, remind them that you aren't getting 24mg per puff, but spread out over a ml worth of puffing.

Thus is a subject that really grinds my gears. Debating with someone about e cigs and health is like arguing politics or religion with most people ignorant on the subject. No matter the logic you throw at them, they stand firm in their uninformed, uneducated, and tbh stupid opinion. I've given up on trying to convince the people I work with, some people you just can't get through to, and it's sad imho. Vaping is really the only alternative to smoking other than cold turkey, and we all know how effective going cold turkey usually is.
