Phish, I travel a lot here and abroad and have never thought twice about vaping in my hotel rooms. Nor about vaping outside a hotel's entrance. No one's ever said a thing when I do, but I have my brief, polite excuse (and V4L card) ready, just in case.
I never push the vaping limits beyond that since I like to avoid conflict when traveling. But yeah, vaping in hotel rooms is one sweet advantage over cigs, eh? I've worried a little in small rooms with a fire alarm right above me (long time ago, I set one off with a long hot shower in a 20-story hotel), but I haven't heard of this happening with vaping and worry less and less. Well happy travels, man.
