The service department guys vape as much as they want out in the garage and body shop this is just such BS! outside i go

As a salesperson, you are the "face" of the company. Customers don't really give a hoot about what goes on in a vehicle service area or a body shop filled with bondo dust. That's why there is a desk that separates you from those areas when you frequent them. Now- if the concierge at either counter was sucking on a PV while customers were walking in for service, your position would be an unfair standard. But your logic is apples and oranges when making your argument.
Good on your manager for sticking to his guns. I would probably be high-strung also if I had a team who blatantly disregarded my rules to the effect that you have. Especially feeling like he needs to take extra time out of his day to see if you are following the rules via security cam. I would be ashamed if my superiors had such a low level of trust in me.
Say why you will about his tactics, but I would thank him for being as lenient as he has been.

I would have suggested printing out some of the information from CASAA's website and attempting to have a reasonable conversation with your manager but unfortunately blatantly breaking the rules several times has probably ruined at this point any chance, even slim, that reasonable conversation might have made a difference with your manager.

The business you work for has every right to make their own rules to allow ecigs indoors or not. You could try to speak to the manager about at least allowing an "inside vaping" area away from the showroom but I'm not sure I'd attempt that until the manager has had time to calm down at this point.

This. . . If only more people were less blatant about vaping, it wouldnt have such a stigmatism attached to it like smoking analogs. He said dont do it inside, you did anyways. If he told you not to bring a gun to work even though it was legal and you carry concealed anyways would you still do it (metaphorically unless you do CC and if you do, awesome)? Feel lucky he didnt fire you or your buddy. Smokers dont get to smoke inside when it rains, why whould you be able to vape inside? Yea, its not smoke BUT its the idea behind it. People dont like it, accept that and move on!

Sooner or later, it WILL become regulated in some manner, and people will not be able to vape in public places (many places have policies against them now anyways) and private businesses will follow suit shortly after.

You will never make a good leader if you can't learn to follow. If you can't honor the rules set in place by those over you (whether you agree with them or not), how could you ever expect anyone to honor your authority and decisions?

Read your 1st post carefully. If you can't pick out where the problems lays then I'll rephrase it so you get it.
What you are effectively saying to your manager is, "I'll work for you, but I will do what I want when I want. If I don't like or agree with your decisions, I will violate them behind your back. You don't have the right to tell me what I can and can't do, you only need to pay me and be glad that I'm here."

Vaping in the showroom will lose sales, period. I'm sure your manager doesn't want you drinking alcohol on the job either. What you don't understand though is that by agreeing to work there, you have signed a contract agreeing to follow their rules whether you agree with them or not. Personally I think it would have been fine had all your peeps not over done it. Had you vaped on break in an approved area instead of going crazy like kids in a candy store with a pocket full of money, I bet that your manager would never have banned ecigs in doors. It sounds like he was forced to lay down new rules because you guys were taking advantage and abusing your liberty.

Probably just me though, rant over carry on.

That's isn't a rant. In my eyes it's called good sound advice.

Maybe in a different work environment.

this is a new car dealership. People do not want to purchase vehicles with "smells", even if it is chooclate fudge brownie or something. :)

This is no place to vape, and esp. not inside a showroom vehicle.

Any suggestions on what we should do?

YOur manager.....people ACT like this in the workplace? With all that rage and emotion? (despite your very bad behavior)

sheesh. I'd be looking for a healthier work environment. I have been in the workplace for 35 years and only saw that kind of behavior ONCE.

They got my notice the same day.
