on the Waidea model, any reason to get black over silver or vice-versa other than just color preference?
does the finish on one stay looking better than the other etc?

I have a genuine one. someone asked me if I would get them a clone. I saw "v3". it has the x?-400 chip. are these things all really dying? even though it was asked for I hate to do that to a friend. is there a reliable one? I would get myself the clone now. the real one leaves some to be desired anyways. dna40 can have issues too but are these highly prone to failure? how is the fit and finish?

I don't know about the Waidea but all anodized aluminum the finishes will wear with time like the bluing on a gun although it handles normal use better than many other types of finishes. Now for my opinion the Black will show scratches like a neon sign and the same scratch on a silver (clear anodized unit) the scratch will be far less visible and will with time and handling actually become even less noticeable as it will oxidize and dull down.
Well, Kate at 3FVape got back with me. I'd asked for a 2834 (silver) as a replacement, and they just told me they could ship me a 2806 black today, or I could wait until sometime next week for the silver (my replacement order was placed on the 24th, FYI).
I went for the 2806.
Went for the black Kangxin because while I normally prefer silver for scratch resistance, the sparkly finish on the Kangxin silver didn't appeal to me, but the brushed silver on the Waidea looks great. Oh well, black generally works better with wraps if I want to go that route and there's always a Sharpie handy for touchups.
EDIT: And ten minutes after I confirmed the black one, Gmail lights up.

well my weidea flask seems to be lying around at the german customs since the 19th now. sadly the tracking numbers don't update when sent to germany and I'm left waiting for it to arrive may it be tomorrow or in 3 weeks...
The KX-40D is a solid preforming chip set I've only seen a handfull of people reporting DOA or dieing units, out of the possible thousands sold worldwide.
Infact I'd say right now they have a more reliable trouble free track record than the authentic DNA40.
I too own both and now looking to purchase a Waidea version to compare it to the Kangxin, and authentic.

Hows battery life doing for everyone? I have a matched pair of brand new VTC4s in mine, and I get a full days use before needing to charge. I may try running it with something with a higher mAh rating.
Pretty good for me although I haven't been beating on it. Samsung 25Rs here. Going great! No problems with the VF yet either

I bought a Kangxin in February, buttons fell out a couple weeks ago, and 3FVape was kind enough to replace it for free, and let me go with a Waidea for a $2.00 upcharge. I was just mentioning that I had originally ordered a black Kangxin because their silver finish is horrid to my eyes, but wanted a silver Waidea because that finish looks great, and silver is usually my preferred mod color.
As for your package not showing, it's not unusual for it to take a few days for the first scan to show up from China Post, it usually doesn't update until it gets to the big sorting center, and then shows the pick up from the vendor/arriving at local post, and arrival and departure from the sorting center all in one update. After that it's in tracking limbo for a time. Good news is, China to UK/your door is usually faster than China to US, for some reason.
Hell, when I was living in Malta, I'd have stuff from China shipped to a forwarding drop box at Heathrow, where it was sent on via Malta Post and still usually got it in under 10 days (and it was cheaper by far to do that than direct to Malta, for some reason, not to mention Malta still has that pre-EU bad rap for scamming so people were/are reluctant to ship there).

FT is showing a v4 version of a 40w flask. Has a ss 510 w/fixed brass center pin. Would it be too hard to make it adjustable???
Depends.
IF the inner 510 threading goes fully through the stock connector, you could do something clever like buying a redacted 510 connector and use the inner positive assembly and screw it in from the bottom. That way you could maintain the exact visual but with a copper spring loaded pin
