Just ordered a gunmetal dna. Hopefully no shipping drama. Pretty excited to be moving up form my 650mah VV Evoid, so this is my first real mod.
Ive seen alot of people say DNAs arent for first mods. I think this mod is great for a first mod, especially coming from a VV device, you already get the idea. Its very basic, easy to navigate/use. Now as far as using its sub-ohm capabilities as a first mod, that's a different discussion. But honestly, I haven't even went sub yet, im right at 1.0-1.1 on my rba's, and even 1.9 with my kayfun. The highest wattage ive vaped was 25w with the rda's,tho now my usual is 18, and 14 on the kayfun. And its been stellar. I can sub and go higher wattage later, as for now, im already on the edge of nicsickness if I push it at those settings lol. Imo, you made a great choice, and you should be very very happy with it. Even at the same power you vape now, it performs better, its a whole different way of firing. You'll see, it's an all new world after a DNA lol. Oh and I had no issues with shipping, and customer service was awesome. A lady named Michelle is really nice,patient lol, and on top of things over there. Tho I know some people may not agree. Some of us were a lil more patient than others.... Congrats man!
Emailed Michelle at VS and Monday she's going to ask the tech if they can send me a switch card, which I can then solder into my mod. Otherwise, the normal return and wait method will have to do. Even though I've had a couple of issues with my mod. Vaporshark has really come thru for me just fine. Overall, I'm pretty pleased!
Thanks man! Yeah I have been slowly progressing into more advanced stuff. I just made my first coil in my aerotank which turned out awesome, and have an order from Wizard Labs for a bunch of DIY juice stuff. Definitely not going to start sub ohming right off the bat or anything but I love tinkering with this vaping stuff. Your post just makes me all the more excited for my DNA!
Hey guys, received my gunmetal VS this morning, same shipping packaging as everyone, same minut finish flaws but as others said no matter how small you think it is you just dont know until you actually have it in your hands. Very happy. Came 3/4 charged.
Question for you guys, I also built my first coil this evening for a Kayfun Lite clone (have it setup up in nano size). Coil came out 1.7 ohm (9 wraps with 28 gauge, was quite easy by torching it first, only trouble was getting it to stay under the screws while tightening it down). Using a cotton wick. What's a good wattage to be running it on (or seeing/using what voltage to apply to this resistance type coil) ?
I am on my second five pawns flavor (so far totally disagreeing it with)
For me, my sweet spot is 1ohm which I get by wrapping 8 coils of 28g wire around a 1/16 bit, but that is off a mechanical mod or the VS. On a standard regulated mod, like the MVP2, I prefer using 30g wire, around a 1.3-1.4 ohm resistance. With that resistance, I tend to run around 10W.
For me, I would run a 1.7ohm coil around 8W, then see how far up I can go from there.
My KF3.1 clone gets run at anywhere between 10 and 14 watts. There isn't enough airflow over the coil for more than that.
Also, in my experience, tightly twisted 32ga is similar to 29ga in resistance. So if you figure for 28ga then subtract a wrap you should be pretty close (give or take).
Thank you all for chiming in. Seems my 1.7 ohm coils sweet spot is at 11w, when i go to 12w the cotton wick is not wicking fast enough. I had to make a tighter draw to get it to wick (50/50 five pawns). I prefer airy draws but after a few toots its dry hits otherwise.
Question, what is the difference by going with more or less wraps on a coil (i understand this with make a certain resistance) and the diameter of the coil? Hot vape or cooler vapes and/or something else? Also a bit confused when to apply more watts when there is less ohm on a coil or more ohm's? Trying to get a better grasp for when I build my next coil. Have an authentic Russian 91% coming in tomorrow, so I will have 2 RBA to play with.
Last question, seems coils last about a month (wicks about a week or 30ml worth of juice), how does one know a coil is bad, the resistance changes or ?

You might want to double check your cotton wick, be sure you can tug on it and have it move freely, but at the same time snug enough not to have any gap with the coil. After a few tries, you’ll know exactly how much to use. If you have the right amount of cotton, you can go with the airier draws and not have your cotton burn up.
More or less wraps and/or diameter determines the total length of the wire you are using. Also keep in mind that thicker wire allows the current to move through it freely, hence, why a thicker gauge wire requires a longer length than a thin wire to match the same resistance.
As for coil maintenance, that depends on the juice you are using, as well as how much you vape. Darker colored juices tend to gunk up your coil quicker; so you need more frequent maintenance. You’ll notice a drop in vapor and flavor regardless of the freshness of your battery, so that’s when you’ll know it’s time to replace the wick and/or coil.
Take some pics of your coil and wick setup; you’ll generate good feedback/suggestions from others that will get you on the right track.
I tried my friends EHPro clone which is currently setup as a single coil, same type of build as mine. The flavor & vapor is definitely top notch, better than the Fatty V3 which I thought was the 2nd runner up to the Cyclone.
I do notice it vapes slightly cooler though, so for really low resistance builds, this one may have the edge. Flavor wise, using the same e-juice, I still prefer the Cyclone, to me, I get a stronger taste; just seems more concentrated if that makes any sense.
Oh, btw, the Cyclone can do dual coils, but not quad which is what you can do in the Atomic.
For $30, the EHPro Atomic is a steal I think, no brainer if you are considering an igo series or a Helios/Trident clone.
How does the Ehpro Atomic compare to the Helios clone? I have the Helios clone and love it. Atomic better? My Helios has allen head screws on the posts, not Phillips like original.

Building wise, the Helios is probably one the easiest to work with, although the original one I used had Allen screws, not Philips…?
Flavor-wise, IMHO the Atomic has the edge. I had the Fatty V3 when I tried the Helios, but ended up staying with the Fatty. Between the Fatty and Atomic, hands down I would take the Atomic.
@ Madburg: For cotton wicking, I try to keep the cotton as fluffy as possible; I only twist the feeding side which I snip off anyway once I get it through the coil. I know it’s hard to tell in the pic, but this is the max I will use for a 1/16 sized coil:
I try to get it as transparent as possible, and then I just press it together lightly from all directions. Passing it through the coil should give you no resistance at all, the fluffy cotton will shape itself inside, and that’s all there is to it. End result should be sort of like a bowtie shape. If the wick remains the same cylindrical shape from inside the coil to out, you probably either rolled the cotton too tight, or didn't use enough at all.
Hope that sort of helps a bit.
I had just learned the wicking bowtie very recently, basically as soon as my VS came lol. I was doing exactly that, rolling it to get it in, then it wasnt wicking well. I cut the amout I used in half and kept it loose and flared out, and ended up with the bowtie. Waaay better. I saw a vid on Grimm Green his Helios had phillip heads, I thought. I want to get the Crown rda, but its only preorder right now. Gonna wait till its available for regular order, even if it takes a bit. I have plenty of rdas to get already lol.
The only RDA I really want to get my hands on right now is the Magma RDA by Paradigm Modz. It seems to have everything I want out of a dripper; bottom venting direct to the coil, DEEP juice reservoir, single coil venting option and a reduced chamber size. Hopefully one of the B&M stores here has one in stock, will need to check around next week

My KF 3.1 is running right now with a 1.4 ohm (30 ga) micro single coil with cotton wick. I usually run it around 11 watts, but I've gone as high as 17 watts and didn't burn the juice (Suicide Bunny O.B.) and still had an enjoyable vape. (But 11 watts is my norm.)
Never heard/seen it before, then my buddy popped up with one. Hes very new to vaping, surprised the heck outa me, it was a bad lil atty. He went from a protank to a geni lol. That ST puts out some vapor! Very cool atty. Looks cool too... thanks fer the reply.
