You really have to experiment a lot to get your sweet spot but once you start to dial it in it is pretty special!!

Exactly....I love this function on the 40....I like mine set at 450 (for some reason)................:)

I'm really glad I bought the Vapor Shark 40.....my poor 30w v-shark is collecting dust.......:2cool:

What do you people think of the flavor with the nickel coil compared to Kanthal. I find the Kanthal a little better. The nickel seems to be slightly muted comparatively. I like the TS heads but not sure if I like the coils as well as Kanthal. I'm trying to like it better but find my self grabbing the Kanthal with the same juice.

I get the same, if not better flavor with nickel. My advice to you is don't be afraid to go above 410 degrees. I set my temp at 470-500 depending on how my coil performs. I get a warm vape with great flavor and even with the temp set that high I usually have no burning on my wick.

You should never be that high in temp. It defeats the purpose.

As I understand it, and I may be wrong. While at temps up to 500 you would burn your cotton if it ran dry, you still won't be over heating the VG. I believe I've read/heard that something funky happens with the VG at around 510 or higher.

VG creates Acrolein at 518°F, when VG breaks down. Dry cotton starts to burn at 400°F. The goal for TP is not to inhale burnt cotton or Acrolein. When you set it too high, you get closer to those dangers. I personally set my TP to 420°F and rarely hit TP on a good build.

My coils and tank are working well. I don't have any problems really, except that my juices are pretty gunky and I'm having to put in a new coil every other day or so. Are there any good solutions for cleaning coils since dry burning these Ni200 coils is a no-no?

Put a Kanthal coil in. Problem solved.

I've seen videos of people trying different temps with dry cotton. I'll have to search tonight to see if anyone's done it with wet cotton and when it starts to effect the wick. Unfortunately I don't have mine right now so I can't try it myself. It just arrived back at VS so they should be shipping the replacement in a day or two.

Informative post. Thanks KT!

Yet we're using a device with the ability to set that high.
If setting too high puts us closer to the danger then why put the danger on the market?
Based on this it would seem VS or Evolv are putting us at risk or no?

Right behind you...
They are pricey but Vapor Shark finally has Ni200 coils for the Kanger Subtanks in stock, Kanger Subtank Nickel OCC coils (5 Pack).

They're really not that pricey, about the same as MSRP on the Kanthal OCC coils (and cheaper than B&M prices by far!).

On a positive note, they should last a lot longer, at least the wicking should. No guarantees on gunking up.
