Couple of things on the Vivi,,, first off its a really cool set up, lots of ideas have entered my thoughts about this tank and how its made. I redid a couple of the coils so far and put that out there early on and how to do it so people could do there own to see what and how they liked there set ups best hoping for more feedback, I do like the 2mm wick that is used on some other Gotvapes products with small tighter circle coils myself like done in an Atty, but that's just me.

Another thought in my head and something I tried is how to make a 306 Atty work in these tanks, its very close to working and I think I figured it how to make them work, this would also be a super option to have to screw on an Atty, flavor and vapor production would be super and pretty intense if we had this.

Lastly, the way the phoenix is working is very good so what about making this set up as a bottom coil set up too. submerging the coil and wicks is working so well on the phoenix that having a tank set up like it would be a nice idea I believe. It would be nice to see the Fusion team working on these ideas so Gotvapes could possibly offer 2-3 different tank options, I for one would love to see the 306 Atty or a short 510 Atty work in these and I know it can be done, and also having the bottom coil like the phoenix would be 2 great options for these :)

Just a couple of my thoughts on this Chris & Danno

Here is my video on the coil replacement on the vivi nova. I put it in the other forum but thought it might help here too

Seantex,

I dont see how that's like a Genesis, all your doing is re-wrapping the Silica wick and making the ground connection to the outside instead of inside between the Grommet and inside wall.

Both wires should come down through the tube, like it is done from the factory, to make connection one of them has to be in between the grommet and inner wall of the tube, the second one straight though the silicone grommet like you have it , then put the pin back in. no need to leave one outside of the tube, the way the factory does it makes for a better connection in my opinion.

I experimented today with some 400 SS Mesh,,,,, and also a piece of a special ceramic as wick but I'm not ready to post my results as of yet :)

I think where pretty fortunate to have a guy like Chris who works very closely with his manufacturer, many vendors just take what there given and he doesnt, he attacks this with lots of heart and tries to get us the best he can. Chris has been at the CE2 forfront from day one and has helped a great deal to improve them for the better in many ways.

Now onto the Vivi,,, I took my Atty head and re-built it in only a couple of minutes, I used 36AWG Kanthal and my own 2mm wick. The 2mm wick seems to be better in the Vivi in my opinion then the smaller wick and makes it run more like the stone tank as far as flavor and vapor. pop off the center pin from the bottom of the Atty head and take it out then take out the gommit. wrap your kanthal around a needle 3 wraps then wet your wick and twist it through your coil. this makes a nice tight coil instead of just wrapping around the wick but you can go either way, I like wrapping around the needle for a really tight coil and twisting the wick through better. Then slide your wires through from the top pulling your wick down tight from the bottom, one wire through the center the other wire in between the side wall and grommet, then push your center pin back in securing it against the one wire, then break the leftover off. Anyways see pic below and you will see the stock Vivi head in the background compared to the new one I made, this feeds the coil with more juice giving me some more flavor then the smaller wicks do, but it may not be the end all I'm sure Chris will come up with an even better resolve for the flavor but I'm very happy the way this is performing like this.

On another note, a 306 Atty in this tank is dam close to working and will work with some small modifications I think. I was fiddling around with a 306 & i06 looking at how to get it to feed in this tank, so lets hope maybe Chris can work with his manufacturer and also get this done too because this would make for a real Monster of a tank with a 306 or i06 Atty in this tank. :)

Our Story So Far up to:

Post 208 on “ViVi Nova v1 Review” Thread
Post 391 on “Vision VIVI NOVA has dropped, In Stock Now, full kit, 3 ohm twist tops, metal tubes and parts” Thread

SENSORY INPUT ISSUES – flavor, vapor, draw, etc.

Sensory Input Issues Summary:

  • Muted flavor –22 instances
  • Flavor improves with break-in – 3 instances
  • Flavor improves with trimming the wicks – 4 instances
  • Flavor improves if one of the wicks is pulled out – 1 instances

  • Wicking issues/dry hits – 5 instances
  • Trimming silicone cup helps – 1 instances
  • Trimming wicks like in the Stardust helps – 4 instances

  • Plastic-y/weird flavor – 14 instances
  • Rinsing and dry burning helps some but not others

  • Hard draw – 2 instances

Some Specific Comments:

“Voltage increase or decrease doesn't seem to help the cause much.”

“Started with the 2.4.... rinsed the entire thing first.. dried the wicks, trimmed em back to the sides of the tank and gave em a dry burn. Vaped about a mil and it was semi muted. Too airy on the draw.. Plugged one of the air holes with a toothpick and now it seems to be picking up.”

“I clipped the wicks before I even put juice in it and have been hitting on it non stop for the last hour or Havent had a lame hit yet.... its getting better as we speak but as I said, I do get batter flavor from the same juice on the stardust.”

“Its been a few days now (4 tanks) and I can say that my rating has lowered tremendously. Hate to say it but its honest. Juice flavors are suffering. Vapor production never changes with diff voltages unless its too full and you crank it up. The draw is too open.”

“Well, what fixed mine was puling out one or two of the wicks. They were too tight in the coil, and weren't able to expand properly. Once they were pulled, after a few draws, the taste is no longer muted.”

“All three heads I have do the same thing. Just a real muted vape with a dry note on the backend with a slight metallic taste. It sems to be getting plenty of juice and the vapor is there. The coil is spaced right and tested even with a dry burn and I torched the wicks one more time to make sure they were clean.”

…………..

“I cut all the wicks on the 2.4 ohm head to where they are just touching the sides of the tank and it is working great now.” (both wicking and flavor)

“I cut 3 of the 4 wicks down... Left 1 hanging so I didn't have to tip the thing to wick it, and it works great! The flavor has started to taste better...”

“Took my old little butane torch/lighter to the wicks on 2 heads now like we used to do to the old ce2's(heat till they glow red and clean) and then dry burned and they are much better now.”

“Trimmed the wicks, except for the top wick that just lays on top on the 1.8. Put a couple drops of juice on coil, dry burned it out. Assembled tank, put juice (60/40 pg/vg). Let sit for about 5 mins. Put on Provari at 3.7v, and holy chit batman !!!!!! Hits like a beast !!!!!”

“I untwisted the wicks considerably as LordDavon showed on the V2 Stone. That helped a lot with dry burn taste.”

…………..

“before I put juice in the tank, I took the tank off, and dropped a bit of juice in the coil, and burned that dry, no plastic taste for me...”

“I would suggest to do what John said and drip a couple of drops of juice on the coil and do a real short pulsed dry burn before filling.. Or rinsing out first like I did and dry off your wicks.”

“Plastic taste is completely gone after rinsing the coil in hot water, drying it and doing a dry burn until the coils glow red.”

“I'm getting the same rubber/plastic taste as I get from new Stardust. The only problem is, I know what causes this nasty taste and how to correct it on the Stardust, not so with these things. I don't see any rubber/silicon ring down below the coil so that can't be what is causing it.

I filled and tried vapping the 2.4ohm (2.7ohm on Provari) head right out of the box (like we should be able to do for $20) but had to dump my juice out after about an hour cause I just couldn't stand it any more. I then washed it, dried the wicks and dry burned. I let the top push the cup seal down when I put it back together and made sure it wasn't pinching the wicks. Didn't help one bit, still nasty tasting rubber.”

“Well, I tried trimming the wicks and washing it twice. The rubber taste has subsided a bit, but it still just doesn't taste right. I don't know if it is just muted flavor or dry hits but it's getting to the point were I don't even want to vape it cause it just doesn't taste all that good.”

“I am about halfway through my first tank, and now the taste is changing completely. It is harsh, flavorless, and uncomfortable to hit all of a sudden. I didn't change anything. All I have been doing is using it.”

“I went through a 'bad taste' phase - pored the juice into a bottle, rinsed thoroughly, then reloaded. Not perfect flavor yet, but certainly not something to toss.”

“… i get vapor, and th... but i dont taste the juice at all, and there is a nasty taste that i do get... i used a juice that i have vaped about 90 mls of so i know what its supposed to taste like. … and as the person above me said, changing my volts does not seem to change vapor production at all, and for me makes that weird terrible sickening flavor even worse...”

“well after reading through the threads, when I got home yesterday, I tried some of the tweaks that some people said were helpful. I dumped the rest of my juice out of the tank, Cleaned it, along with the wicks, and trimmed them like the startdust. I then dry burned until i saw the coils glow. For the rubber piece that sits on top, i trimmed it a little for they wouldn't touch the wicks. I also made sure the wicks were not that tight along the coils. Last thing I did, was put a drop of liquid on the coils and dry burned that. The vapor was better, but I still got a muted, odd taste. I did this with two heads, the 2.4 and i think the 2.8. Neither did the job.”

HARDWARE ISSUES – pins, coils, etc.

Hardware Issues Summary:

  • Pin on the bottom sticking too far out – wobbles on some PVs – 5 instances
  • Heads resistance inconsistent – 6 instances
  • Lead wires heat up and glow when trying to dry burn, but not the coil itself – 10 instances
  • Coil wound too tight – 1 instance and several speculations

Some Specific Comments:

“…the coils that are around the wick do not heat up... its like they are no resistance coil there or something, but underneath the wicks 2 small spots on the coil do heat up...”

“It seems the coil is touching the center post, shorting the coil. I noticed this after metering it (.4 ohms), and noticing the resistance was way too low. So I popped the silicone cap off the head, and couldn't see anything obvious, except that the coil looked like it was touching the center post. I fired it, and the leads went red hot immediately, instead of the coil. After repositioning it a few times as delicately as I could, I got the coil to fire, but the leads still glow before the coil. It meters at 2.6 ohms now. Still get a muted flavor.”

“when I took mine apart, I saw that the grommet against which one of the leads was resting was singed. Which would explain the strange taste some folks are getting.”

“What i noticed on the primer burn on both the 2.4 and the 2.8 is the coil isnt getting red unless you really crank it up on the volts. I see red from the wire but its below the coil, like the wire coming up from the base is glowing but the wire around the 3 wicks isnt.”

“I selected the the 2.8 ohm next in hopes to up my wattage a little with a cooler running coil. The flavor was a bit off and harsh. I emptied the tank and washed it out so I could inspect the coil.... dried out the wick and then did a dry burn... I saw the same thing described earlier where the main part of the coil wasn't glowing and the wires under it were... I spread out the coil slightly and refilled. Right at first... the flavor was again good and worked similar to the first 2.4 ohm coil... but it quickly returned to the odd harsh flavor. I recleaned the unit and again I found the main coil itself not glowing but the wires below were... so I spread them out again... and again after filling the performance had returned.”

Finally: Rebuilding the atty head helps with everything:

“I took my Atty head and re-built it in only a couple of minutes, I used 36AWG Kanthal and my own 2mm wick. Anyways see pic below and you will see the stock Vivi head in the background compared to the new one I made, this feeds the coil with more juice giving me some more flavor then the smaller wicks do, but it may not be the end all I'm sure Chris will come up with an even better resolve for the flavor but I'm very happy the way this is performing like this.”

“I went ahead and ripped open one of my bad heads and made and installed my own coil. I just ran it down the tube and reinserted the plug and then wrapped the other wire around the top and put the silicone cap back on. Works like a dream with the new coil installed.”

wow--this was excellent--thanks SO MUCH Briar - Chris will take this to the Team, this was EXCELLENT - mod note

Yikes! I should get mine tomorrow and now I'm really nervous! I'm a total noob and kinda not getting what you guys are saying. Guess I'll just wait and see how it works for me before I worry about it too much.. BTW,, I've ordered three times and couldn't be happier with what I've bought and the super fast shipping.. even if I don't like the Vivi I'll be back anyway:)

I hear ya...LOL. I kinda understand what they are talking about it.....but don't want anything to do with it. I'm 64, female, ride a Harley....but rewinding a coil is not in my repetoire. Just want to open the box and slap it on.

I do have one sitting in the box...just haven't had time to mess with it.....work is such a bother :grr:

I tried not putting the wires through the bottom, but it didn't work well for me. I like popping them through the bottom. Always makes a great connection.

I have a few stardust with cracked tubes. Does anyone know if those coils could just be popped into the vivi?

I would have to respond with a yes to this.

I did basically the same thing using parts from a 1.5 ohm Dual Coil Clearomizer to rebuild a stardust. I used the thinner gauge of the 2 coils that were in the Clearomizer.( top coil i think ) I also used the longer wick from the clearomizer and left it hanging down into the stardust tank. It tested at 2.0 ohms. It vapes better then new and I have been using it for 2 weeks now using approx 50 / 50 coffee blend juice on a 650 Ego VV passthru and a Riva 1100 mah.

Go for it... and let us know how that works out. I'd like to do the same thing to get the Nova to perk up so I can use it on the Lavatube which is a very nice fit and finish combo. ( though not as nice as the provari-nova combo as shown in the pic posted by someone else a few pages back)

I'd think it should work - let us know what happens. Though, darn it, I just tossed a couple of Stardusts with badly cracked tubes. I should know better: cleaning is BAD for you. :D

I may try it when I get off of work. I like the looks on my provari, but just feel it is lacking something for me. I went back to the stardust, just don't want to give up on the vivi.
