What are your smoker friends reactions to you vaping??

The most common reaction I heard is I can't believe you quit smoking. I was a 2 pack a day+ chain smoker and nobody thought I would ever quit. One thing I haven't heard is "you smell like smoke", I used to hear that a lot.

Well done Night Owl. Isn't it great being able to say "I quit smoking". Like you, I really like not smelling of ciggies anymore.

I quit 2 & half weeks ago, thanks to vaping & I still cant believe I actually quit. I never thought I could (after 15 RYO per day for 17 years). But vaping really works. I wish more people were open minded to vaping. But, freedom of choice makes the world go round. I just hope that Vaping products continue to exist & that they aren't banned. I don't see why they would be considering how many people's lives they have saved &/or changed. Me thinks- Vaping is a miraculous invention. And ECF is Great. :)

My Dad is so happy that I quit. He- being an ex-smoker- was always nagging me to quit; I felt frustrated that I couldn't.

Then I met a Vaper & did some research into e-cigs & their success rate... And, I was so happy when I told my Dad about Vaping as a way to quit. He was very supportive & still is.

It almost brings tears to my eyes knowing I quit mainly for him- as he was about to go into hospital for a hip replacement & I was scared for him... so I said I have to quit for him now rather than later..

He used to be a heavy smoker (2 packs a day) & one day, decades ago, before Vaping was invented, he quit cold turkey. He quit for us kids & because he got sick & tired of feeling controlled by the cigarettes. I don't know how he did it- cold turkey n all- he says it was mind over matter & a lot of beer- lol.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is- Thank you fellow Vaper's & PV inventors & Hurrah to Vaping. Any person unwilling to give Vaping a whirl is in denial & simply isn't ready to quit, sadly. Cause Vaping really does work... :2cool:

I don't have any smoker friends. I never have, I was the only one, and they were all GREAT about it.

So, they are GREAT about my vaping, too. They want me to be happy and healthy.

I mostly turn strangers and distant "acquaintances" on to vaping. Relatives of acquaintances, etc. I think I've converted about 9 people (for sure) in a year......but I live in the middle of nowhere so I don't run into a lot of people, otherwise that number would be higher. :)

I let THEM ask ME. I don't like being prosletized to, about anything, so I don't do it to others. :)

As for gear and stuff, I"ve had carpenters, neighbors, and even the fire department, insurance people, etc in my house, they see all the "stuff' lined up on counter or windowsill drying out, nobody has ever even asked me about it. I try to surround myself in the kind of community where it's live and let live. I think I am in that kind of place....people are even polite at Black Friday sales and even help each other.

I have converted 7 friends, including my friend's husband, who is now adding a vape shop to his mobile phone store:) My brother called it "gay" and he continues to use snus. I don't push. If people ask, I tell them about it. People who tell me the juice is full of chemicals, I tell them exactly what's in it...and then add the fact that the ingredients in ecigs are EXACTLY the same as the ingredients in Dunkin Donuts' coffee flavorings...just with nicotine instead of caffeine. Seriously, right on the DD website...flavoring contains: food-grade flavoring, PG, VG.

They all react the same :D This is how it always goes, no kidding:

First you get a weird look on their face.
Then they'll ask what the hell it is you're smoking.
You tell them and immediately they go "Ah... one of those LAME e-cigs! LOSER!"
I take a long draw while they ramble on, don't inhale and then blow my bourbon vanilla juice right in their face.
*surprised looks*
"Tastes awesome, man. What's *your* taste on that Boro? Oh I remember... dogpoo cancer it was?"

Next thing you know... one of em is chain-vaping your ecig asking you a ton of questions.
It's funny cause it literally goes like this every time :)

I've had a variety of responses

Your e-cig case looks like a druggie kit!

That's one of my favourites, I always laugh with it. But not entirely relevant with the actual device.

Most of my smoker friends took some interest, although fleeting : had a drag, coughed their brains out, and then 'wow, that's heavy, man'

A few of of them did ask about pricing and maintenance, but I don't know if they'll go through with. I don't want to force anyone, it's their own choice if they switch. I'd be more than happy to help them if they do, with the starting steps. I've been there and had only the internet to fall back to when I had questions, I can empathize with starting vapers who usually have tons of questions.

My non smoker friends have been slightly more supportive. While of course they didn't take interest in trying it out, they ask a lot about how it works, etc.

So overall I've got a mixed to positive reaction. Not too bad :p

Maintenance is the biggest issue when I recommend vaping gear to new vapers - a friend of mine wants the eRoll but I'm going to have to show him how to break the attys apart and clean them - not a big deal but smokers are used to pulling a cigarette out of the pack and just lighting up. Admittedly, you can just buy new atty heads but it all adds to the cost and at the rate I vape I'd be tossing attys every couple of days - hopefully in the future we'll see some designs that can be dry-burnt clean by newbies without them having to get too technical.

I never get in people's faces about switching to vaping, but I do get a lot of curious looks and questions about my APV setup. When you're vaping on an eGo people's brains hardly seem to register or think you were handling a pen.

Most negative feedback was:
-looks ridiculous/wonky
-you don't know what's in it

I had a few smoker friends make the switch or even yesterday some random dude I met smoking outside seemed very interested. I do carry my APV around and I make sure to explain that you don't need anything big and expensive to have satisfaction, just that I wanted more from it.
Maintenance-wise I tell people that you need to screw in a new coil every now and then and I almost always recommend an EVOD kit to start them off.

I don't take breaks at work. So, only rarely do I have a minute to talk to anyone that has questions. People do seem interested, if not for themselves, then for their mothers or fathers or someone else they care about.

I've given out a few ECF cards. But, I don't know that anyone goes to that much trouble. I think I need to make my own little cards out to go with the ECF cards. My card needs to have the addresses and phone numbers of a couple of local B&Ms. I think they would be likelier to go look for themselves than to do the research online.
