Been smoking analogs since the age of 12 -- so about 40 years of self-destruction. After developing some mobility issues that made it almost impossible to go outside at work or home to smoke I decided to try a convenience store ecig...thinking it would just help me get through the day until i could smoke a "real" cig again. But I think i've seen the light and am switching to all e-cig now. Just waiting on my 510 and juice to arrive!

I knew I was addicted to more then just the nicotine.

Me too! I had heard about e-cigs here and there, saw some in the tobacco shop, but figured that I would never be able to quit or even cut down. I tried the patch and the gum but I missed the actual act of smoking.

A few months ago my sister got a job here in the city I live in and she decided that the 1 hour drive was a pain in the ... (and we are in Wisconsin, lots of snow and ice this year) so she started looking to buy a house. She asked me if I would want to move in with her if we found a house that would give us our own separate living areas, but told me that I would have to smoke outside. No compromise on that! I also have a cat and even though I always sat by a window with a fan blowing, there was still plenty of second hand smoke floating around and if she got cancer from my addiction, I would NEVER be able to forgive myself. Was also getting sick of having to scrub the yellow crap off of my computer, tv, etc. Sick of smelling like smoke, especially around my non-smoking family.

I started going out to smoke but had a hard time sticking to it, especially at night or in the snow/ice. Looked at e-cigs again online, found a cheap super mini starter kit that has at least helped me cut down from about 2 pad to less than 10 analogs per day. Have a KR8 coming in the next few days with cartomizers instead of the carts (and I won't have to mess around so much with refilling). I think that I will be able to switch completely, even if my sis and I don't end up living together. This weekend I went to my parents house overnight and my mom helped me wash all of my blankets and curtains. I'm working on getting rid of the smoke smell in my apartment as much as possible. When I do quit analogs completely, I'm going to get a tooth whitening kit and I can have nice white teeth again.

Sorry so long...I'm fighting the urge to go out for an analog right now. These super minis are annoying the crap out of me today LOL.

35 years of smoking. Figured I'd die a smoker.
Cigs got out of hand price-wise and I was introduced to rolling my own 2 years ago.
20 bucks bought 2.5 cartons and a couple hours of manual labor, I was ready for the week with nice looking smokes.
Price problem solved but the social stigma and health issues still lingered.
When you roll your own, you take the time to roll enough for the ensuing trip.

I had a 2 week trip. Half business, half pleasure. This meant rolling at least 300 cigarettes and being with 99% non-smokers.
Went to the smoke shop to buy a pound of weed and the tubes.
Walked out with a starter kit and 30 cartridges.
That was feb 1. Haven't looked back since.

Nice thread....and they say e-cigs are not a cessation device....sheesh.

I started vaping for one reason:

I don't want to die yet.

Or at least not like that. i realize its a harm reduction strategy and perhaps not ideal, but I enjoy it much more than I ever did smoking. I look back now and I wonder how I ever did that.

Great stories and awesome thread. Thank you all for sharing.

Cheers,
VMS

For me it was more of an addiction to gadgets than to smoking. In fact, I've never been able to pick up the habit of smoking because my body rebels against the act almost immediately. My interest in ecigs started with the altruistic purpose of informing some smokers near and dear to me that there was an alternative. It seemed like the proposition would be more fruitful if I not only knew what I was talking about but had experience and could "prove" it to them. After some trial and error on my part I am happy to impart my knowledge (most of which has been learned here) to any smoker willing to listen. So far, between the people I work with and my family, I've paired up nearly a dozen people with eGo kits and bottles of juice from my increasingly vast collection (remnants of trial and error.)
On this forum I feel a little out of place as I was nearly a non-smoker before vaping but I try to be as evangelical as the people here with inspiring stories of quitting.
Unfortunately my hypothetical banner would show that I'll probably never save any money from the act of vaping but hopefully by spreading the word I'll save up some karma points instead. :)

If you can help people who want to quit, that is great. I wish someone here had known about them and could have told me about them years ago."

I'm surrounded by mostly non-smokers and was tired of feeling like a social outcast, tired of all the bans making it harder to smoke anywhere. Plus all the health stuff, of course. I just happened to stumble across an e-cig review site one day and decided to try it. I had my last analog in November but am totally addicted to vaping. Haven't saved money yet because I keep buying new toys, flavors and juices. But what the heck, I'm a lot healthier. lol

Strange and enlightening experience. I had my blood analyzed...but live, not dead and spun. And it was 'nicely' suggested I quit and suggested an e-cig. All I heard about them was ads and free trials, even I know don't fall for that. Since I didn't know anything about them, I researched for almost 3 weeks and got to see a demo on one at the la county fair (overpriced I knew by this time) and came home and ordered another brand. Took a couple of months to find the right level and flavor, but cut back considerably during that time. Was a pack a day smoker, sometimes less during the week, but up to a pack on the weekends. Love/hate relationship with analogs, scared to totally stop, you know? And I would panic if I knew there wasn't enough in the pack to rollover the next day and the price has gone up alot on my ex-brand American Spirits. Hubby smokes the same brand and kept taking mine. I finally said screw it Jan 1..(I am not a make a resolution person). I got the kit to help stop smoking..so took the plunge and analog free since 1/2/11. I hated cold turkey (I didn't even like me, I was a horrible person). This way is so much better, should have done this ages ago. I control the mg and vape 0 at nite most of the time.
Smoked for 30+ years, so I thought for sure I would never be able to quit.

I smoked a pack a day for 30 years. I never really tried to quit in all those years. I had seen ecigs advertised and decided to give it a try. I researched them for few weeks before purchasing a joye 510. Boy, I'm glad I did research. I stopped the analogs the day I received the 510. Vaping is fantastic, I recommend it to each person I run across that smokes. I feel so much better. No more sinus trouble, no more snoring, and no more hacking and coughing in the morning. You smokers & exsmokers know exactly what I'm talking about. I will never go back to analogs. I look forward to being a member of this forum. Thanks,
D.L.

The black Cherry sounds awesome. I have been at this for 2 weeks now and cherry flavor was the furtherest thing from my mind. I am currently using prosmoke and I couldn't stand their tobacco flavor so I decided to try some of the others. The cherry flavor reminded me of a dark red wine.

Could you tell me where you check the black cherry and winston flavors ? I want to try the same mix.

My hubby "tried" to introduce me to electronic cigs about two years ago by voice, leaving pamphlets around and having me watch videos. However, ciggies were my love hate enigma. Nothing about it tickled my fancy. At a dinner party a person nagged me just to try it. I did and still wasn't impressed. The feel was hard, draw was very tight, and it felt like inhaleing air with very little smoke. All kinds of excuses for why it wasn't performing were given and I just smiles softly.

I met another person at the YMCA and she invited me to join her for dinner at a supper club. During the cocktail portion of the night, she asked me if I smoked. Yes, sheepishly I replied. Great, came an enthusiastic response as she pulled out her e-cig. I was impressed with the sleek black design with a blue glowing tip and mounds of vapor.

As she started to tell me all about her new found freedom, I was offered to try one for myself. After a few gin and tonics a cig really sounded good. She put one together for me with Blk Cherry liquid mixed with Winston @ 24 mg. Nice was my first thought after inhaling once. Try it again she said, this time inhale a little longer like drinking out of a straw. Man ... was that the BOMB!!!

We must have sat @ that table for 4 hours., vaping the night away and learning about the brand new world of mine. So for me it was having the right beautifully designed, working equipment and nice liquid that was strong enough for a 2 pk a day smoker.

What was your final factor making the leap from cigs, to e-cigs?

I was determined to switch, but I had some trouble at first with pg and not enough nicotine. I switched to vg after reading some posts and changed to 24 mg. I still had trouble giving up my favorite smoke breaks until I found some flavors that I loved more than smoking analogs. I've been strictly vamping for a couple of months now and very glad I switched.

My decision to stop analogs and begin vaping was motivated by the love my wife demonstrated by purchasing an eCig for me as a gift. I tried it and it had all the mechanics of smoking that appealed to me. The flavor wasn't all that great but then again I didn't like the taste of any of my analogs anyway. But now I am trying different flavors and so far Cherry (as mentioned earlier) is my favorite.

I smoked 2 PAD for 30 years. I had had herniated discs in both my neck and back and have had spinal surgery 2X. Smoking is not good for someone with herniating discs. I had an MRI and found out I have 3 more herniated discs. I had a massive heart attack. My left coronary artery was 100% occluded. Still refused to stop smoking. Finally, this winter I got a really bad upper respiratory infection that would not get better. My dr. diagnosed me with COPD and ordered an in home nebulizer. Despite 3 rounds of antibiotics and lots of other meds I could not kick the infection. My dr. told me to try an electronic cig and I was so sick I finally relented and have never smoked another cigarette. I had tried quitting using everything on the market. From the first drag on my e-cig, I knew I'd found what I consider to be a miracle. I was going to die, no doubt about it. Not only did my infection heal but I no longer need the nebulizer or the inhaler and I don't cough and I can breathe and I have energy. Don't tell me they do not help people quit cigarettes. I KNOW without a doubt I would be smoking today if I had not found electronic cigs.

This is an awesome thread ~ I love reading about these 'aha' moments!

I discovered ecigs by accident in late December when I stumbled upon a craigslist posting in the electronics buy/sell tab ~ I was looking for camera accessories for my new dsl. I'd never heard of ecigs before and was intrigued enough to stay up half the night doing google searches and watching youtube videos about them. Over the next couple of days, I would casually bring the topic up with family and friends during conversation to find out if anyone else had heard of them...not one had! I really wanted to try them but was having difficulty finding somewhere that I could get them without worrying about customs seizing a mail-order (I'm in Canada).

A week passed and one of the friends I had mentioned them to sent me an email explaining how after our conversation, she had started looking into them and was fortunate enough to find a local retailer not too far from where she lives (in the US) that had them...she bought herself a starter-kit and kicked analogs within 3 days.

Meanwhile, I had been making calls to local smoke shops to find out if anyone carried them (I really didn't want to wait for a mail order) -- no luck...only one retailer had even heard about them but as a non-smoker, wasn't really motivated to look into carrying them :(.

I finally spoke to an online dealer who had had success shipping (nicotine) orders to Canada so I took the plunge and ordered my starter kit. It seemed to take forever to arrive but once it did, I charged it up and tried it out. While I wasn't impressed by the flavour of the prefilled 'tobacco' cartomizers, I was blown away by the fact that I felt as though I was 'smoking'! I was soon trying out the other flavours and, as others have mentioned, found that the cherry was totally satisfying. I received my kit on a Wednesday afternoon and on Friday evening, smoked the last anolog of the pack I'd had since Wednesday. I haven't bought, nor smoked, analogs since. Not bad for a 30year, pad analog habit!
