Why I took the leap into vaping (1/2 to 1 PAD smoker for over 25 years):
1-Get the "Quit Smoking" monkey off my back - Can't smoke here, can't smoke there, house smelling like cigarettes but smoking and oblivous to the smell, feeling like a second class citizen even though I paid all the SIN taxes, that nagging feeling that I HAVE to quit
+2-Feeling like I couldn't take a deep breath -- sometimes running out of breath when speaking!
+3-Daily check list of whether I had enough cigarettes
+4-Husband irritated every time I said, "I need a pack of cigarettes." In NY a pack of cigarettes could cost from $11 to $13/pack
+5-The merciless taxing of cigarettes

Saw the e-cigarette on David Letterman, and the rest is history :)

Thanks for an interesting thread :)

Health. I was sleeping like a cat, never felt rested when I woke up. I would randomly nap, couldn't stay up a typical amount of hours. I was so sick of feeling that way.

My first exposure was when my SO's Aunt was in town. Around the same time 7-11 had picked up a couple of brands. Curiosity got the best of me so I began to research. Read everything here, dug up the Amex gift card I had received from my Uncle during the holidays, picked up a 510 Mega kit and a couple of different juices. I stopped smoking the day my package arrived. Bought the eGo two days after a larger juice purchase since vaping had worked.

I feel great now, sleep 5-8 hours, don't feel tired when I wake up and I'm able to stay up longer than my friends. Sense of smell is back, taste is, eh, coming and going. My attitude has improved, anxiety decreased, but for some reason I'm now glued to the window when the mailman is on my street.

I was at my local smoke shop buying my weekly carton of cigarettes and happen to look down into the display case. Hey, what's that? That's an electronic cigarette, says my helpful ciggy purveyor. Really! $15.99? What the hell ... let's try it out.

It was a cheap single cart knock-off that only worked for a few days, but it started the ball rolling. I started out with a starter kit from V2cigs with 3 batteries and carts. NEED MORE POWER! Moved up to an EGO starter kit and then an EGO-T.

It was never my intent to quit smoking ... I'd tried and failed too many times. But this wasn't quitting ... this was transitioning. And it has been virtually effortless. That's the part that's blown me away more than anything else. Now the roommate's got his own EGO-T and has gone from 2 packs a day to 15 cigs in a couple of weeks.

Happenstance.

I started a career in nursing where smoking, smelling like smoke is a big no no. It's a little frowned upon for a nurse to show up to work reeking of smoke.

I actually had no intentions of quitting the analogs. I just wanted a way to get my nicotine without the smell and I hated going outside to smoke so of course everything I owned smelled like smoke. For a while, and with some crappy ecigs I started with, I did both. Over time and after I have gotten better equipment and found the device for me I just have simply lost all desire to smoke. Vaping has become more satisfying than smoking ever was!!! Not to mention that I am gradually loosing my cough and getting my sense of smell back, I sleep better, don't wheeze anymore, and don't have to stop at the store everyday, and I have almost gotten that nasty smell out of my house.

Been smoke free now for a month. I do think that I might have actually spent MORE money vaping than smoking and I smoked 1.5 pcks/day, but hey it got me to this point so well worth every penny. And now I have tried enough to know what I like and can finally quit spending so much loot on new things. We'll see how that goes. Only wish these had been around 10 years ago.

I was a 2 pack a day smoker , even more if I was stressed. In mid November I got sick , really sick. My spinal fluid was building in my brain causing extreme headaches, loss of hand/eye movement. I thought I was pretty much dead. As they released me from the hospital with meds and such. I spent 2 weeks on bed rest and had to be helped about the house by my husband and mother in law. I have a 6 year old daughter who got to see me this way.
And you know what? I smoked my heart out, probably 3 packs a day lying in my bed and thinking I am going to die. After 2 weeks and I slowly got better, my mother in law make me some lunch to eat and sat with me. She finally said this has to be my wake up call. My daughter is going to see my die sooner than later. Anyway my first day home alone and still very shakey I ran out of cigs , so I decided to jump into my car and drive to the gas station for more smokes, I couldn't see straight and I don't know I made it there and back without killing myself or someone else.
Well after I got back safely it really hit me that I should have just hit a tree on the way to the gas station and got it over with. I went online and ordered my VGO and juice and the rest is history I have been smoke free for 2 months and will never put myself or my family through that again.
Thanks for reading my story.

I had been looking into the technology for quite some time because I needed to reduce my smoking breaks at work. I bought a $20 cheapo kit and when I google the brand/model, I ended up here @ ECF. From what I learned here, I got better equipment/juices/etc. It worked so well, I now like vaping MORE than cigarettes. This Dekang SAM Mint is way better than a newport, 100 times more satisfying and doesn't stink up the place.

Oh my goodness ... how are you doing now? Do you "think" vaping had anything to do with getting better? Tell me more!

I had no plans to quit cigarettes, at least not on a conscious level. Ordered my first PV as a curiosity. Two hours after delivery and getting a full charge, I assembled it and went outside with the other smokers at break time. My first few drags got a cough reaction from me. I thought, "this will do it!". That was more than 13 months ago.

(carton/week for 35+ years ... ended 1/15/2010) :)

I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension: pseudotumor cerebri. I am all back to normal now and have regular check ups with the doctors. I so think that vaping has helped my body healer quicker and I do think that smoking was a contributing to my problems. I feel so much better now and everytime I have a bad craving that no matter how much I vape can't satisfy I come on ECF and see all the other people who are trying just like me.

I personally have two beautiful boys and a beautiful wife that drove me to quit smoking. After trying and trying I purchased a crummy ecig from the local mall while it wasn't enough to quit, it was enough to get me interested and researchin ecigs. My last analog was 11/19/10, and I never felt better. THANK YOU ECIG

Like NCC, I wasn't actually trying to quit, but ordered a PV out of curiosity after someone at the office mentioned seeing an ad for them. I didn't make any attempt to even reduce cigarette usage, but on the 3rd day day I noticed I had only smoked 3-4 analogs. By the 5th day I was totally off cigarettes - and I wasn't even trying to quit ! That was about 3-4 months ago.

Im a competitive MMA/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter so my smoking was destroying my game, I found myself getting winded way too quack amd losing weight in a bad way. Back in october I had to travel out of state for a fight (because new york still has yet to sanction my sport). When we arrived at the hotel I realized I had left my smokes and cash back in buffalo >: { by weigh ins the next morning I had a terrible head ache and was dreading competing. Then one of my team mates girlfriend handed me her 510 and its history from there. My ego has replaced my camels, I'm faster stronger, and feel better than I ever have. My only regret is not finding my new addiction earlier = )

For me it was mainly the cost, and the smell/ashes. I'm a neat freak with a bit of OCD so being a smoker has always been a bit of an issue. I've never smoked in my house or car, but still they have an odor of smoke about them as well as all my jackets etc. That plus the taxes in NY bring smoking to $10 a pack really made it time to quit. So far vaping hasn't been a lot cheaper as I keep trying new units and parts. I started with a JOYE 510 with auto batteries and have since gotten a RIVA 510 with manual. I've tried LR attys too. My only real issue now is the constant need to top off the carts, so I think my next move is to try a cartomizer and a tank cart setup.

I started Smoking in the early 80's back when we knew they were bad but it was still pretty cool. Yeah right. Figured I could quit and as time went by I did try quitting. Like that commercial, I felt addicted to quitting. I tried everything and most stuff more then once. I figured I would die with a smoke in my hand and didn't like that at all.

I knew I was addicted to more then just the nicotine. I hated the taste but liked the act of smoking. Hated feeling trapped and having my life run by cigarettes. Just plain hated it. Still I couldn't quit.

Then I met someone online who was in worse shape then me. She was on oxygen with COPD. She was also addicted to smoking. After a stay in the hospital for breathing problems she tried hard again to quit. she didn't succeed until she started using an e-cig.

Then 3 weeks ago, hubby just suddenly quit cold turkey. I still don't know how he did it.

I figured I would give it a try. Even if i could cut down to half the cigarettes I was smoking, it would be a success. Well after getting my eGo today I was amazed at how good it tasted. How well it works. I like this addiction so much better.
