So, I'm still a relative newb. Been vaping on the 510 and enjoying it--I don't really smoke analogs anymore unless I'm at a bar.

I'm wondering what model e-cig is a step up from the 510. Maybe something that doesn't require as much maintenance and gives better performance. The 510 works for more OK, but it seems like the perforance is going way down as it doesn't hit as well anymore even with the battery charged and the atty cleaned.--I don't know if I need to get new attys or if my batteries are not charging fully anymore.

I don't mind spending around $70 on something if it is a noticeable improvement. So, recommendations please!! ;)

First step up and perhaps as far as you might want to go with 510 equipment is this:

After that - 5 and 6 Volt mods.

The Joye is designed at 3.7 volts and will run a little higher with a fresh battery put on. The atomizer will fall off in performance, length of time depends on the amount of use, but when you put on a new atty, it suprising the difference in performance.

Another place to get the lower maintainence 2 piece are the Kr808D and the greencig, both available at Welcome to NHaler!

Is using a new atty every week enough to keep it working it's best? I don't mind spending $10 a week on a new atty. Barely more than a pack of smokes these days anyway and that used to be a pack a day for me.

I ordered the Protoge with the 510 adapter. I seem to always see them with a 901 but since I already have 510s I didn't want to go a whole other direction.

Atty life varies and you should be getting more than a week out of them. I rotate mine (clean/to ziplock) every week or so and have not lost one going on 5 months now. (one under performer). The protege will help the battery problem as well - uses the same long life batt in the mod I recommended.

I have the same two attys that I started with at least a month ago. I just don't know what suddenly went wrong. They were working really great on Friday, better than normal vapor, then pffftttt.

Where can I find the best procedure for cleaning them?

Before you even consider cleaning them, you should find out if the coils are good. To do that you'll need an Ohm meter. The good news is that you can often get a "good enough" meter for under $10 (Harbor Freight, etc..). Then you check the coil resistance. Basically anything over 3 Ohms and you're wasting your time trying to recover them.

My personal opinion is that unless you clean them regularly, you might not want to bother now.
The built up crud may well be too thick to get cleaned off at this point.

One thing you might want to try though is the Crest mouthwash.
That may very well revive your atomizers.

I clean mine every 2 weeks in mouthwash and so far have just one with performance poor enough to replace it (I've been vaping about 7 weeks). I did find 510 attys at puresmoker with a 35% discount for quanities from 15-24 that brought the price under 6.50 and they even had blank carts with them. I ordered 16 to get the order over $100 and got free shipping too.
