That's very true and, in the long run, stuff well made is worth fixing. Unfortunately, things like refrigerators are not that well made and spending big bucks on a repair just doesn't make sense. I've actually been surprised by the appliances I bought for my kitchen. They were all bought soon after I moved in and that's 20 years ago. I replaced the dishwasher two years ago and I've had to replace the door handle on the microwave twice. So far, the only issues.

I must be the exception to the rule. I paid a service guy to come look at my washer and my fridge before. Their hourly rate is closer to $60 and they just charge a minimum to come and give an estimate. It was worth the money to have them fixed in my case.

I suppose it comes down to benefit/risk. When you're lucky enough to get appliances to last near 20 years, it's not too hard to pass up even a diagnosis visit. I've spent a bit over $80 on handles for my microwave and it's close to 20. I thought the price was ridiculous; however, there was no need to call someone in and I've never had a problem with it.

I got the rim on the Green machine bent back into shap and the tire now looks fune on the rim. Now I just hae to figure out how to get the brakes to pull correctly

Congrats on the repair roth. You'll be driving the green machine before long. Tell me it wouldn't be fun to have an adult size one.

My last washer was only 8 years old when I replaced it and after spending about 1k for it, I figured it was worth having someone look at it. The drum bearing was part of the drum so the whole thing needed replacement and also needed an impeller or something. Anyway the repair was going to be about 500 so we replaced it.

Crazy night. Temperature dropped from nearly 80 to nearly freezing in two days. Winds picked up enough to drop a tree in my driveway. Still blowing pretty hard so I'm trying to wait a bit to free my drive. Don't want to be under another that gets snapped. Beside all that fun, power went out about 10 last night and didn't return until a bit after 7, but it's bright and sunny now. Fire started in the fireplace since it's going to be a high in the mid 40s and near freezing tonight. I should have known winter wasn't really over.

I heard you were getting some odd weather in your part of the country. We have had some strong winds but warm temps.

I'm putting in a new ceiling fan and kitchen faucet today that my wife picked at the store last night. The fan wasn't bad since I've put up a lot of them for us and for other people. The faucet will no doubt be a pain in the .....

Similar weather here roth, went from 60's to a high of 29 yesterday. Snowed most of yesterday and it's still snowing now. What with having all that snow late and tons of rain since, my sump pump has been running every 15 minutes for the last month it seems like. I tried a new strategy with the outlet extension hose this year since it was causing standing water on my neighbors yard just running it straight away from the house. I angled it down the asphalt drive that runs to my pole barn, thinking maybe the sun would evaporate some of it before it soaked into the ground. Seems like it was working, but I had to move it back with the freezing weather, I'd rather not flood my pole barn :pervy:

Bought a new to me 2010 GMC Sierra a few weeks ago. After doing so much work on the El Camino I didn't want to beat it up hauling random stuff around anymore.

Picked it up from the local no haggle Honda dealership. The problem I'm having now is that it's pretty much loaded and with 39k miles it's almost new, and I don't want to beat it up either!

That got a hearty laugh out of me. After looking at the truck pictures, I was goint to post that it's too nice to haul stuff around in and you'd have to buy a beater for that purpose. That's why I liked the trailer idea. I used my 2000 Olds Bravada to haul it aroundwhen it started showing its age. When it finally wasn't worth fixing, I turned my '07 Escape into that vehicle. When that can't do the job anymore, I'll get an older SUV, hopefully 4-wheel and Escape size with enough engine to do the same. I'm done with buying too nice.

I have to make a decision on my uncle's Nissan Versa. He's been told his driving days are over and potentially his independent living days. He's been in rehab a month and now his kidneys may be failing. He's paying $3,600 a year for insurance due to being an assigned risk after being off insurance in the US for 27 years, then he had the accident where he ran it off the road. I was shocked that it was going to cost me $1,200 for that little car so I'm not sure what to do about it.

I guess it will really depend on whether he is able to go home for awhile. I'd then put it in my name and leave it at his place so we could use it if I have to take him someplace. We'll just have to wait and see.

That is a nice truck. It looks like it's got a hard shell cover too. Does it have a bed liner too? You will just have to be careful hauling stuff if you want to keep it nice. We have always hauled stuff in our SUV's without damaging them. Hell, we hauled a tree in my wife's Pathfinder. It was so heavy that they loaded it with a bobcat.

Thanks! When we got it we drove around to show it off to family, and we showed up at my Mom's house unannounced. She came flying out of the house wondering who was there, when she seen it was me she came over and started smacking the crap outta me saying "You little poop (curse word version of course)!" since she's been wanting to replace her beat up '99 Silverado. She spent the rest of the time we were there asking to "borrow" it for a while. :pervy:

Yep, hard cover and spray in bed liner that the previous owner put on it. Not really any gouges or scrapes in the liner, like they didn't use it haul anything or were real careful.

Hauling stuff in SUV's reminds me of my Dads old '89 Suburban. The most memorable event was a time when a coworker of Dad's was building a house and bought a few too many trees and we stuffed a 12' pine and two smaller maples in the back. Driving a half hour with all 4 of us crammed in the front seat and the back doors wide open so the pine would fit.
