I'm spending quite a bit of time coming to terms with two of the best human being I know being diagnosed with very aggressive, non-curable cancer. One told me about a month ago and my best friend was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. She is already in a regional hospital because the local one isn't equipped to help her. Complete devestation. That's what I see in these families. The first already lost 2 of his 5 sons and his wife to seperate illnesses. My best friend has a husband, daughter, and 3 horses that were born on her farm that her husband doesn't have the ability to properly manage on his own. Her mother relies pretty heavily on her too. So many people and things are affected by something that no one really thinks about until it happens.

Neither were diagnosed until it had already spread and was far too late. He had been under a doctor's care for a chronic condition for over a year before they finally operated and found the tumor. Screw doctors, screw cancer, and screw the Marlboro horse it rode in on too.

    Somewhere between here and there
I’m really sorry about your friends FC. We were lucky that they found my wife’s breast cancer at an early stage and it was treatable. It’s hard to believe it was 14 years ago. I lost my mind when the doctor came in and told me it was cancerous.

Sorry to hear that FC. One of my friends from high school is in hospice care riding out the last days of his life because of cancer. Why in the world they haven't developed early screening tests for cancer is beyond me. Caught early enough almost all forms of cancer are treatable and in most cases beatable. I imagine the drug and health care companies have something to do with it as there is big money involved. But with all our modern tech these days this should be a simple thing to develop. I would advise anyone of you to look into getting a low dose CT scan. As former smokers it is your only form of testing that can detect lung cancer early enough for it to be treatable. X-rays won't show squat until it is too late.

Oh FC, I feel for you having watched it myself last year to the end and the aftermath. In fact, your post reminded me that his wife and three kids still have not started getting their monthly SS checks. He passed in October and we dealt with SS December 1st. It's almost a good thing it took until the day he passed to get his SSDI approved because she got the accumulated benefits lump sum. She and the 3 kids would be homeless.

My cousin's son also has brain cancer and they just got good news that there's no sign of any new growth. He can stop the monthly chemo but still needs an MRI every two months.

Sorry to hear that FC. I lost my Dad to lung cancer a little over 6 years ago that wasn't caught until it had spread to his bones and was causing pain. It was at the point that the time between diagnosis and death was 14 weeks, barely had time to comprehend what was happening before the battle was over. My wife's grandfather was diagnosed with lymphoma about 6 months ago after initially seeing a doctor about the lumps in his neck a year prior to that. He had his last scheduled chemo treatment April 30th and seems to be doing well, he even managed to walk my wife down the aisle at our wedding May 4th a few days later.

Any other snus vets want to contribute to the new thread where some folks are assuming that this person who is trying snus will get cancer?

I feel no need to try to reason with people who would rather believe what is fed to them by the media. If they aren't smart enough to do the research and read the tons of articles on the low risk of any type of cancer because of snus then they can go piss up a rope.

It always baffles me when the same people who argue with the antz that vaping isn't smoking jump right on board with them when it comes to dip and snus.

Suppose I'll bang my head against the wall for a while instead of arguing, get the same net effect anyways.

On a lighter note, I called the wedding venue this morning to ask about the refund amount. We were all payed up for a Saturday with 70 guests and an outdoor ceremony in September. But we moved the date to a cheaper day/season and had less guests so we were expecting a few bucks back.

Normally the policy is if you move everything indoors due to weather you're just out any money spent on everything outside. Apparently they felt bad for us somewhere along the way because they decided to give us that money back, so instead of a few hundred bucks back its a few thousand. It's enough to pay off the stuff that ended up on a credit card, so we'll actually get to enjoy the wedding gift money instead of paying the bill with it.
