Mini rant. Why during the winter do I hear complaints about the house being cold if the temperature is between 63 and 67, yet in May, there's nothing wrong with having doors and windows open and a house temperature of 61?

Now I'll admit, that during the winter I'll wear a sweatshirt and, as I'm writing, I'm wearing a short sleeved shirt. However, it doesn't make sense that you feel colder just because of the time of year.

In my neck of the woods we call that phenomenon "Michigan skin."

The generally accepted temperature where it's most pronounced is 65 degrees. A random 65 degree day in February everyone is wearing shorts/t-shirts since your "Michigan skin" is built up. A random 65 degree day in August everyone is wearing sweatshirts/jeans because you lost your "Michigan skin."

I suppose it could be called "winter skin" or something similar, but Michiganian's tend to brag about our climate adaptability.

    Somewhere between here and there
That is an odd thing Roth. It’s always a little chilly in our showroom/office in the winter yet yesterday the boss had the ac set on 77. He’d never set the heat on that in the winter. Thank goodness that my shop has its own furnace and ac unit.

I hurt my back Thursday before leaving work by lifting a machine off my cart. I’ve done it thousands of times and have never hurt my back before. It about brought tears to my eyes just to get dressed yesterday. I told my boss not to expect much from me yesterday and took Advil all day. It’s still a little sore but much better today.

It was funny when I left the house this morning at 8 AM. My glasses immediately fogged up from leaving the cold house and going out into the warming humid air.

I also got an explanation on why she might feel warmer or colder at the same temperature from a fellow at poker. I never considered it, but I thought about it, it made sense.

"Absolute humidity is the mass of water vapor divided by the mass of dry air in a volume of air at a given temperature. ... If the air is at 100-percent relative humidity, sweat will not evaporate into the air. As a result, we feel much hotter than the actual temperature when the relative humidity is high."

Now I always realized in about the upper end of temperature. If it's hot out, you feel much hotter when it's humid. 90 degrees is bearable with low humidity but gets more miserable as the humidity rises. The same is true on the other end. Winter humidity is lower than Spring and Summer, although it really only averages around 10% different, it might effect someone lot more, particularly for someone with little meat on their bones. I don't have that problem these days. lol

It's hard to believe I stained the whole house when I moved in. That was a process of putting on a primer stain, then the semi-transparent stain. It took me all summer on weekends and what I could get in at night.

I just spent today cleaning the gutters out in the front of the house, washing them out and putting gutter guard up and I'm beat. This getting old isn't for the faint I got my training wheels on the front though. Being single story there halved the distance up and down the ladder and perfected my technique.

I really had to do them as after two Falls, the gutters were completely compacted with leaves and debris. I was spoiled with the guards I had put up maybe 10 years ago on my old gutters. They were those plastic and mesh ones I bought at HD. They did a great job but were falling apart at the end. I put A-M Gutter Guards on Amazon this time around. We'll see how effective they are this time around.

My ladder levelers were pretty rusted up and the one had a malfunction so I took it apart, dipped the rod top get rid of the rust and bent the mangled part back into shape. The other I sanded the rust off and it's back to operating smoothly. The other one should be ready to reassemble tomorrow. I'll probably wait until Wedesday to do the other side of the house. Give my body recuperation time.

Back of the house finished between raindrops. The only thing left is the gutters around the sun room and that's an 8 foot step ladder job. Easy peasy except for the none standard corners. Only three sides so the corners aren't 45s. I'll tackle that when the sun is out. I'll be glad when we get out of this rainy season.

My husband has a pork shoulder for the smoker on Sunday. He is going to lunch with his buddy tomorrow so I'll probably just put something in the solar oven and get some yard work done. I need to re-start some of our garden because something has been digging in it. There is a chicken wire fence so it has to be something small. Probably a chipmunk. Time to set up a small trap and solve the problem.

LOL, chipmunks. Ever since the cat population here disappeared, the chipmunk population has gone crazy. The look at the woodshed, when fully loaded, as their condominium. Plus I find their nut storage everywhere. The got into the clove department and nuts were all over it in various levels of consumption. I even had to take apart the back of my Can Am Spyder because the one side compartment wouldn't open and I had to adjust the cable. Inside the inner workings of where the cable ran, there were nuts jammed in. I don't even know how they climbed into the little space I found them.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend. My brother is coming over and we're going to make our yearly pilgrimage to the cemetery to visit my Dad. Hard to believe is been 6 and a half years since he passed.

My wife and I also took the dive on some kayaks. We've gone canoeing just about every summer and have a blast with it. There's a ton of small public lakes less than 20 minutes from our house, not to mention multiple canoe/kayak launches on the Flint River less than 5 minutes away in a few cases. There's also a guy who owns the auction house right next to the river launch in town that for $20/person will drive to the launch in the next town and pick you and your boats up and drive you back after a roughly 3 hour paddling trip.

Due to some weirdness with the Dunham's online ad not matching the in store ad and the coding they had to do ringing them up, a 20% off your purchase coupon ended up working on things it said it wouldn't. Along with the Memorial Day specials, we walked out at $600 less than it would have been normally, getting one boat free essentially.
