Thanks for the birthday wishes, a hectic couple days. Last Thursday I called the dentist to make an appointment to have the tooth that needed extraction taken care of. I had been on antibiotics as it got infected and wanted it out before the infection came back.

The staff was in a meeting, which I learned later, was having the phone answered by a service and they set the appointment up for my birthday at 12:45. Well the weather was calling for a big change on Tuesday and it was nice Monday so I started on reorganizing my garage for the winter(bikes in the back, snowblower in the front). Ran out of time to finish and left for the appointment.

Walked in and the first thing the receptionist said with a puzzled look on her face, "What are you doing here, your appointment was for 9AM". Now I might have become a year older but I'm not senile yet. She specifically gave me a choice of 12:45 or 1. They reset it up for Tuesday at 1. I'm thinking the gal was looking at the 12th instead of the 11th when she told me times but how it became 9AM, no idea.

Anyway, I headed home after stopping for a couple beverages as I knew I'd get a drink for my birthday and found out I got a double dip because of my veteran status. Went home, got changed, finished the garage and moved stuff into the basement. I still had enough light to churn up the latest leaves that fell and ended my day.

Yesterday was pretty much a waste as after the tooth got pulled I slept away the discomfort for the most part.

A tooth extraction isn't much of a birthday present. I didn't remember that you were a veteran also Roth. I didn't go out after work but there were a lot of places giving free stuff to veterans.

My snus order arrived today and is waiting for me at home. I'm looking forward to trying the raspberry licorice. I have a feeling it's either going to be a love or hate thing.

Well, I've tried three or four portions of the catch raspberry licorice so far. It's not bad but not great either. I definitely taste the licorice and smell it but am having a hard time tasting the raspberry. I just got two cans and will use them up but don't know if I'll order more.

If I disappear from here you'll know fixing up the house did me in.

I've gotten to the point of working on the entrance hall. It's got a 17 foot ceiling on the one side and about 13 foot on the other. I do have a 30" high platform to work from after I've trimmed out the ceiling and a 12 foot extension pole so I'll be able to roll the ceiling from the platform. After that's done, it's up on the extension ladder again to trim in the color of the walls and back on the platform to paint the walls. I bought one of those paint sticks which, on the platform, I can get up about high enough for the short wall but will need the extension pole for at least 3 feet at the top.

To make matters worse, by ex-girlfriend had me hang a long quilt hanger right at the top of the long wall. It's got to be 10 feet long that has to come down to paint or paint around and that would be a challenge in itself. Not sure of my plan for that yet.

Now I've meandered through this not so much for your amusement but more to think myself through it myself. This project needs some visualization if I'm going to survive the effort. I had an 8 foot by 12 inch shelf I hung over a couple of the bedroom doors to put stuff on to collect dust. I had to take that down to repair the holes to prepare to paint. I was standing a foot and a half up on a step stool and she took one end of the board to help lower it. Instead of just lower it she turned in flat which forced me to lose my balance and I went tumbling backward, across the extension later and onto my back into the kitchen fortunately. A little sore but a good lesson on just how dangerous this next adventure will be.

Sounds to me like you should hire it done. It’s not worth getting hurt.

I decided a long time ago that I don't have the patience for interior painting. I can do it and have done it but it never looks as good as when a professional does it and it's a time consuming pain in the ..... When it came time to repaint our living room my wife picked out a color and scheduled a weekend to disappear so I could get it done. She won't be around when I paint because I complain too much and she likes to point out bad spots which drives me nuts. So I promptly perused the local Craigslist ads, found some guy who was doing side painting jobs on the weekends, hired him, had him come in on the scheduled weekend and eight hours later he was done applying two coats. I couldn't find one spot he missed or messed up and the cost was very reasonable. Wife returned on Sunday and told me it looked great and I did a wonderful job. She didn't find out for a couple of months that I hired it out and by then it was shared with a laugh. Unless it's a small job, I'll never paint again.

I don't like painting either. I do better if I work alone. My wife also likes to go behind me and nit pick so we don't work well together doing it. I came home one day and to my surprise, my wife was pulling the trim off in our entryway. She wanted to paint it but broke a few pieces trying to get it off. I wish she would have waited for me to do it. I ended up just buying and cutting all new trim for that area.

Yeah, a smart man would hire someone but I prefer the challenge while I still can consider it. Two years ago I climbed over two stories to install screens on my gutters so I feel comfortable that I still can do it. Trimming out will be the biggest challenge and I still am thinking that I'm going to convince her that using the same color in the entrance way makes sense.

It will make the job so much easier and quicker. I've always liked white in this house. Living in the woods, there is not a lot of sunlight so the lighter the colors the brighter the house. I've conceited to a bit of color in the bathrooms but kept the kitchen white. The lower ceiling part of the hallway has a white ceiling and a very, very light yellow on the walls. Painting the entrance hall all that same color should be fine as that area has gigantic glass above the entrance doorway. Not having to trim out will make all the high stuff a breeze. Get the corners brushed in and roll as low down the wall as possible with my paintstick. Then the rest can be put on with a roller and extension pole or the paintstick when you get low enough.

I think I have it worked out if I can convince her it will look fine.

I had a first today, I went shopping on Black Friday. I was at HD earlier this week planning to buy some bins we need for this painting project. The bins I wanted were put under tarp so I knew they were part of BF. I went to Walmart and bought two for $11 apiece. I should have kept the receipt. Better ones at HD today were less than $7.

I did buy a couple other things so it was an official BF trip. That should do me for the rest of my life. Cyber Monday anyone?

I’m not a BF shopper either but made myself go to micro center after work to pick up a MacBook I’m getting my wife for Xmas. They let you reserve it online but have to go to the store to pick up and pay. It was crazy busy. Luckily they had a separate line for internet orders. I was going to get it at Best Buy until I saw that micro center had it $120 cheaper.

I was three hours north of home sitting in a hunting blind with my oldest boy on BF. Much more peaceful and relaxing. You couldn't drag me out in that mess with a team of Clydesdale horses. I did pick something up early for Christmas. We get a year free of Disney + through Verizon and my older Vizio 50 inch doesn't support it so when I saw that Walmart was having a pre BF sale on Roku TVs I went and picked up a 65 inch one for about $450. I replaced the Vizio in the living room with the 65 and moved the Vizio to the bedroom where I had a small 32 inch TV. All is good in house now. ;)

I was digging through the pocket in my shop coat at work and found a can of Wilsons crumbs of comfort. I opened it and it smelled good so I took a couple pinches. That was the first snuff I've used in a long time. I really do like snuff but can't stand too much of it. I don't much care for the clean up afterwards either.

Living Room rescue is requiring an exorbitant about of vaping and snusing. This project is testing me mentally and physically. I could hardly walk after yesterday and bending over to pick things up was almost impossible.

I have an audio system I bought close to 30 years ago that cost around $ 4k. The Conrad-Johnson 200w amp and pre-amp are actually worth more than I paid for them today.

Although the speakers were only 15 feet from the source, the wires were heavy and had to be run thru the basement. The way the house is constructed, the LR is constructed in such a way that about a yard of the room is actually built into the garage with a crawl space. That had me drilling two holes in the LR, drilling a hole in that crawl space into the basement via the a joist, the a second hole in the next joist to run the cables through. It was quite a chore 23 years ago, extracting the wires yesterday was really a pain, literally.

Beside the main speaker cables, I also had a second surround sound receiver/amp on the same cabinet which was attached to my TV and a Bose speakers attached to that system with wires running through those same set of holes. Deciding to do what I should have done in the first place, put the cabinet on the same wall as the TV and main speakers, all this needed to be disassembled. I almost forgot that there were 4 additional speaker wires running down into the basement and across the entire house for speakers I had on the back deck and the hot tub that I took out of service ten years ago or so.

Anyway, the equipment is moved finally and now I need to splice the wires to the surround speakers that are mounted to the ceiling. I've got two more rows of tongue and groove to install over the fireplace and half the room to paint and the LR will be complete except for the old carpet which, whatever way I go, would involve taling everything out to have it done. That will be for another century.

Roth, I applaud your gumption but man you are really beating yourself up. I imagine it will be awesome when you're done and I hope you post some pictures. Keep at it just don't hurt yourself too bad. Probably should look into another hot tub to soak in after you're done. ;)

The big 50 for me today, which some people consider special. I could care less really and I'm glad my wife decided to keep it low key this year. She planned a pretty big party for my 40th, limo bus, lots of friends, keg of beer, bar tour, etc. It was fun but I am so past that type of stuff now. I'm looking forward to hanging out at home, maybe a couple of beers with a select few friends and no hangover. The older I get, the longer it takes to recover. Last time I tied one on I didn't feel right for about three days...

Roth, that really is turning into quite the project. Maybe you should take the weekend off to recover. I've got an old Bose surround sound system that I bought about 19 years ago. It still works perfect. Not as expensive as yours but it's nice to have for the living room. It's got a receiver/cd player with a sub, three double cube speakers for the front and two single rear speakers on stands that I picked up at a Bose outlet. I still really enjoy it. We were doing some Xmas decorations last night so I turned it on and connected my iPhone to the apple tv box and played music through my Sirius xm app. It still sounds good.

Happy Birthday Rebel! I'm with you on not making a big deal about birthdays. My 50th will be next year and I could honestly care less. I have noticed since I turned 48 that my eyesight isn't as good and I need more light to see small print. Also

    Happy Birthday Rebel!

I feel ya'll on the low key birthdays. Working 6 days, I do so much errand/project type stuff on my non-work days that a day to just stare at a wall is all I really want. My wife also loves organizing/throwing parties, so I try to meet her in the middle with a couple friends at the brewery type thing.
