Damn its good to hear from you gutter. This thread has been my support group/therapy session for years. I feel like we are here for each other no matter what. If its something you don't want to talk about in the open then that's fine but its always helped me to talk things out whether it be in the open forum or in pm's. We're here if you need to talk. Gutter! Welcome home, son!!!

Gutter!! Bout time you came back!

It's so nice to see you guys' again.

Today was kind of normal - i worked on some stuff and traded an amp for an amp ( got an ugly, broken 68 super reverb, wooo!!):)

We've got a snus delivery coming tomorrow. I ordered a few cans of that new oden's licorice ( i put one can on the last order. it is amazingly good and was gone in 3 days).
I also picked the pipe back up this fall ( i figured it had been long enough not to trigger cigarette cravings) and have been trying new pipe tobaccos. I had a nice relaxing bowl of mcclelland's "frog morton on the town" in a little corncob while i looked over some schematics on the porch tonight.

other than that, it's same 'ol, same'ol

Good morning. So is the 68 one that you need to rebuild or is it playable? I was big on the licorice snus a couple years ago. I'm starting to become rather boring with my routine. It's pretty much thunder berry and general mint. I used to never use the same brand twice in a row but have fallen into a rut. Either that or I've subconsciously selected "my brand(s)". Gutter that's a funny name for the pipe tobacco. I don't know much about it except my dad used to smoke a pipe once in a while.

Roth, thanks for the link. That was a funny video

    Hitt,
it's playable but still has issues -it was stored in the rafters of a barn for roughly 25 years and just has all kinds of weird issues due to improper storage. The guy that owned it brought it to me to get it playable when he bought it from the person who had it in storage and the speakers were eaten by rats, the baffle was warped from the humidity, one of the transformers was blown, etc..etc..
It's got really desirable alnico speakers in it (that have since been reconed with period correct cones) with a new transformer and is running without blowing fuses but, it still has a really low output level and the inside is just a trainwreck that's covered in melted wax, rust and either wd-40 or some sort of other greasy "cleaner".
The super reverbs were sort of a flagship amp for fender and since this is gonna be my personal amp, the plan is to get it stable, weed out all the bad components and just try to get it back to what it should be tonally without messing with the cosmetics too much. It's pretty beat but, even with the issues it has it sounds absolutely marvelous - i think once it is working correctly it will be an absolute stunner of an amp. Here's a couple of pictures of it:

On the snus topic - this oden's is clearly in the non-sweetened licorice camp. it reminds me a lot of the panda branded licorice that i've had.The licorice flavor is quite a bit stronger than the offroad (or any other snus i've had) but still has an almost minty burn. it's great stuff.I've been in a rut too - It's been mostly offroad frost with the occasional jak's wintergreen or general white for months now. I got a couple of cans of this oden's and one of their regular strength cinnamon on this order and am trying to not get burnt out on anything :)

The pipe thing is weird - if you're not inhaling it, it seems as if the cancer rates are right in line with snus but, the studies seem to vary willy nilly between inhalers and non-inhalers.
I think that the benefits i get from the relaxation probably outweigh the negatives as long as it is kept in moderation. I only smoke a bowl every other day or so (or when i need to think) and i think as long as you don't smoke one all day, every day that its' effects are probably negligible.I've always just smoked drug store stuff before but, there's a whole world of good quality, hand blended tobacco out there ( sort of like snuff)That i had no idea about.
at any rate, i've been really enjoying hearth & home's "classic Burley Kake" in a straight bowl, bent tip corncob lately - the corn cob cost me roughly 6 bucks and i think the tobacco is about 6 bucks an ounce or something. It's good stuff.
I restored one of my grandfather's pipes lately and smoke it on special occasions - the whole thing has been sort of cathartic, i guess and the pipe seems to give me even less mouth issues than the snus or e-cig....

You're lucky to work with stuff like that and even luckier to get your hands on that amp. I've been practicing between little and none for a while now. I picked up an iPad and have been thinking about getting a guitar adapter for it. Maybe that would get me motivated to play more again.

I think you're right about the minimal use with the pipe being very reduced risk.

Oops, I lost track of time. Gotta get ready for work.

Made it to work and was taking a better look at those pics on my computer instead of my phone like I was this morning. Wow, things were a lot simpler back then. Where do you get the schematics for all that stuff? I don't remember if I mentioned it before but I tried to repair a peavey bass amp for someone before and had a hard time coming up with the right schematics. It ended up having some transistors blown but once I got it working then I found out that the speaker was bad. That's what you get when you are inexperienced with something. The stuff I work on has a lot of printed circuit boards and almost no one repairs boards any more like we did when I first started out doing this. Now it's component troubleshooting and then replace the whole board. It often times ends up to be a lot of money. Good thing we deal with mostly big companies that can afford it. A lot of this stuff would be hard for individuals to swallow.

Darn Gutter, I've been looking for you AND TV all over the place and I missed your first post. Glad to see you found your way back.

That amp looks like a lot of work ahead, but with your talent, I'm sure you'll end up with a sweet sounding piece of equipment when you're done. I posted on one of your links, I think, quite a while ago. As I remember the site had some stick people made of old used components. Gutter art I suppose.

I had one of my favorite women in the world ask if I had a decent chainsaw because she lost about a half dozen trees in the storm. I had a few trees in my yard that I lost earlier that her request prompted me to pull out the chainsaw and get it running. I sort of got away from firewood 6 or 7 years ago so the saw just sat. I cut up a couple trees but it was obvious the chain needed sharpening so I pulled off the old one and replaced it then realized I had the break in the wrong position when I disassembled.

I spent a good two hours trying to reverse that error and decided to take it to the shop and have them "remind me" of how to correct that mistake. I did that once when I bought the Husky years ago and I figured out how to correct the problem that time, but I couldn't recall how I did it until the fellow in the store took the chain and bar off, then I remembered. It was worth the trip though because I needed some supplies.

This morning a car battery failed so I had that to deal with. It took a charge but I figured it was safer this time of year to replace it now as opposed to February.

Gutter, I've got some E cig flavors that remind me a lot of pipe tobacco flavors. I like them the small amount I vape anymore but it satisfies that hand to mouth when the spirit moves me. I used to enjoy a pipe, but in a lot of ways it reminds me of the early days of e cigs, a lot of maintenance. I do miss the smell though, there's nothing like the smell of pipe tobacco. Not many pipe smokers around anymore.

    Hows it going Hitt?

I hear ya, can't wait for the weekend, have been working outside most of the week, driving a forklift around getting everything tarped and ready for winter and its been really cold. Made myself a windshield and roof for the forklift using plastic wrap lol, helps a little.

yeah - it's always nice when stray old fenders show up. Their circuits were so well documented and copied so much that working on them is sort of soothing in a way.I had just finished up a beater of a bassman (68 as well) that i had been working on when i had the time over the last year or something so the super came at a good time.

Speaking of adapters, someone gifted me one of the little peavey units for christmas last year and it's downright impressive what they can do with the modeling on the ios stuff. Those things are awesome for silent practicing- the amp models sound good and there's all kind of little recording goodies in there (iirc, the peavey has a built in 4 track and drum machine).
Anything that gets you back on the horse is a good thing, man.
