Gutter it sounds like that amp is a labor of love more than anything. I don't know what something like that is worth in good working condition but obviously it's worth a lot to you. I think that it's great that you have something that you're passionate about and enjoy doing. I've never heard the "special snowflake" remark before but it's very fitting. This particular guy is very nice but for some reason he really gets under my skin and I just can't seem to put my finger on why that is.
i've got a couple of those types of customers -" hey, it's 1:30 in the morning and my amp/pedal/guitar is making a funny noise?, i've got his cell phone number,my amp guy won't mind if i call him and ask him why my amp was making funny noises tonight when it was plugged into the same circuit as the bar's neon,refrigerator,p.a. and a.c. system!!!! ".....
alot of old amps are more trouble than they're worth, initially. It's kind of like old cars or any well engineered piece of machinery that has been abused or neglected- you hate to see them get scrapped but it doesn't make "financial" sense to save them in a lot of cases.
if this model of amp were more prevalent, i would have told the last owner flat out to pitch it. in mint condition, it's worth roughly 1200 to 1500.00 and in this condition, i'd be lucky to get 1100 back out of it.
fender makes a reissue of the super now that's built on printed circuit boards with garbage components that you can pick up for 800 bucks all day long. That's not nearly as much fun though
