I thought it was a major shame when like, girl scout cookies went off patent and whatnot. They're not as exciting when you can get them all the time, plus you don't have the happiness of knowing you are helping little girl scouts become bigger girl scouts plus future Avon salesmen, I mean the successful ones.

I always used to dread that time of year, the fundraising time because I didn't like bringing in stuff to my work and whatever, and they can be pretty hard core "high pressure" sales techniques, so that meant *I* had to buy stuff, sometimes really unnecessary stuff like premium Christmas wrapping paper (the irony for any who have seen my "wrapping" attempts will be high, or like a huge tub of chocolate chip cookie dough that I knew I was never going to cook, but I would eat it all, very bad for the waistline, etc. LOL.

Yeah, the days of door to door girl scout cookies and school/ sports fundraising is pretty much done. Now poor smucks like me ambush fellow employees and beg on FB. Kids do no work and reap the benefits which is why I make my kids pick up dog crap and mow my lawn. Keeps them grounded...;)

Hey, I sold Amway stuff for awhile. Well, I sold myself a bunch of Amway stuff for a short while. I still don't know how I got talked into it since I had already decided I wasn't a real salesman after selling real estate for nearly ten years. It least that was a product that I believed in.

Sitting here after splitting only two rounds this morning. Got stung on the knee, thought it was a one off. Got stung on the left arm and that got my attention. I had headphones on listening to music but realized I ought to look around. I think that's when I got stung on the back of the other leg. So I have a nest of ground bees somewhere in or near my woodshed. So much fun.

I immediately came inside and called the pallet company. I think I'll get a second order of pallet ends and that should do me for the winter and I'll get to the splitting after I find the nest or into the colder days when the bees are not swarming.

I feel for you. I hate bees. Last time I got stung it was on the EAR. I got all dizzy and nauseated and like, ran inside demanding aid and succor from the nurses on my shift. They all laughed at me, even AFTER I puked. Recluse bites are more expensive, but I think bee stings are like, more PAINFUL (provided you get the proper Recluse bite care, I mean).

It's better than wasps though, man, I am afraid I derive a TINY bit of satisfaction from the fact that like, the bee was gonna die, and I (probably) wasn't. I also blame the amount of soda cans and stuff that get left out in the summer months in trash cans some places. That's just asking for trouble in AZ a freaking hive can be built in a day.

I am extraordinarily looking forward to my post yoga mixing session, I'm going to do it with snus. It's too much super a pain to try and vape during it, so I'm gonna take my time, I have all the time in the world.... Etc.

Yeah, I hear you (not joking) about the sting on the ear. I was on vacation in VA at a friends's house. I went out and was hitting some golf balls in a field by his house. Hit a nest of ground bees (yellow jackets) and they nailed me on the ear with multiple strikes. I was like you, panicked and feeling sick. Put some med on it and the sting and feeling went away.

I'm pretty sure I found their nest. I have some of the pallet ends stacked in the wood shed. I looks like they were flying into a whole between a few of the blocks of wood. Going to check it out one more time before dark and will send some "love" into there after dark. I got lucky a month ago when I disturbed the nest they build under the cover on one of my bikes and was surrounded by them. I'm wondering if the survivors rebuilt in my shed and nailed me this time.

Yep the brown recluse is fairly well known around these parts. I have been bitten 3 times on the FACE. Then the husband told me that the exterminators had not been in 3 years. I was so incredulous I perimetered the entire house inside and out with boric acid. We have not had troubles since then. I followed the precautions but got slightly boric acid toxic anyway. It was so worth it. Pretty soon here I'm going to do it again, in a full on hazmat suit.

3 YEARS. The twitches and stuff were probably worth it. I would say I haven't been attacked by anything since then but I'm not gonna say it because in AZ, that just INVITES trouble.

I don't think I mentioned it here, but we finally got rid of the yellow jackets at my place.

Late July we had a half dozen of them flying around in the finished side of our basement. Went outside and saw where they were coming and going from a spot under the siding above our walkout door. We have the Orkin bi-monthly prevention service with the unlimited between service callbacks, and my normal Orkin lady was able to come within a few hours. She sprayed a bunch of instant kill up there and said that should do it. Activity slowed but after roughly a week they were back in the basement.

Called Orkin back out and got my previous technician that I liked a lot. I hadn't seen Jamie in over a year, but apparently he was on workman's comp after training a new tech on an alternative method of dealing with paper wasps and ending up getting the crap stung out of himself and falling off a roof. Messed up a tendon in his leg. He was still unable to run but hobbled right up and fired a bunch of dust there, getting stung a half dozen times in the process. He advised me not to seal it up until activity ceased, because they can and will chew through wood/drywall etc and swarm in the house vs the relatively few stragglers we were dealing with.

Over the next week outdoor activity slowed to nothing, but we were still getting random one's in the basement. The dust insecticide sticks to the wasps and in theory they track it deep into the hive, getting it on internal workers and eventually the queen. It will also be stuck on the ones that get into the house which our dog and cat would gleefully hunt and kill. The dog however would eat them and the insecticide gave her the runs, which required a vet trip to a different vet because ours was out of town. $400 between the bill and lost wages as my wife didn't want to go by herself.

We get back and Jamie was there totally unprompted checking on things, which is why I liked him so much. Explained the dog situation and we went out back and looked under the siding and there was 3 perfectly round holes drilled into the house under the siding. This entire house is covered in random holes because the previous owners would switch TV/internet providers every 2 years for the promo rates and get new installations every time. We started pounding on the siding to see if any would fly out and sure enough they started swarming out of a different spot we didn't notice previously. Since they were already angry at us for banging the siding, Jamie ended up getting the crap stung out of himself when dusting up there. Dudes a legend.

I sealed it up a week later after we hadn't seen any of them in the basement for a few days with some spray foam that has that dust mixed in with it. I only got stung once in the ordeal after missing one with a fly swatter in the house, but I still get jumpy every time a fly buzzes. Tiniest things can really ruin your life for a hot minute.

Found this handy chart that aptly explains our yellow stripey friends.

Edit: Shortly after posting this I heard a "tink" from the light fixture right next to me. I'm pretty sure it was just adjusting from the heat of the bulb but I just about broke the keyboard tray on my desk jumping so hard. Sounded like a yellow jacket bouncing off the fixture. It's gonna be a while before we're truly comfortable down here again.

That's my favorite flavor of the stuff you get here but I am looking forward to ordering some stuff from Sweden after my first paycheck. But white's the best option I have encountered yet. I have yet to open my tin of Wintergreen, I'm vaguely scared since I don't like wintergreen that much but well.... It will be what it is, I guess
