That was a great deal Hitt. I wish I was more auto mechanically inclined. At this point though, it's just too much trouble to learn fore me and I have more important things to learn like rebuilding a speaker and either baking a receiver board or heating up a chip to melt the solder into the chip's pockets.

What I did do today is go to HF and buy the little 10" Bauer Lithium chainsaw. My nextdoor neighbor had a tree fall toward his house and hit it with its branches. I told him I'd help him out by cutting away those that actually hit his vinyl siding. It basically ruined his gutters but the siding looked okay and I could tell the weight was being held up away from the branches so it shouldn't be a difficult task.

However, they had this Chainsaw on sale and the idea of avoiding the entire ritual involved with firing one of my gas powered saws got me interested in a battery powered one and this was a great excuse to buy one. They're so light and convenient. I had all the branches off the tree and cut it back as far from the house as I could get it without jacking up the tree and bucking off rounds where I'd need one of the bigger saws.

Unfortunately, his new vinyl didn't escape unharmed. One panel had a small hole and a couple cracks around it where, I suppose, a limb hit it pretty hard. Now immediately visible unless you walk up to it.

That was awful nice of you to help them out.

I hope everyone is enjoying any time off they've gotten for the holidays!

Having some weird weather in MI currently. Yesterday was 55 degrees and misty but not raining. Good enough to spend half the day at the outdoor shooting range test firing everyone's Christmas gifts.

The going joke was you know you live in Michigan when the weather is nicer on Christmas than on Halloween.

Plenty of rain here yesterday and the start of today. I haven't looked to see when it will break. I'm glad we made it through the end of year before the winter gets serious. It's kind of nice going outside in only a sweatshirt rather than a coat.

Body's gotten a break as we cooled off the home improvement since before Xmas and won't start up again until after NY. Just some tiny projects here and there.

It's been unusually warm here the past week or so. Today is my first day back at work after nine days off. It was a regular cluster this morning getting things lined out but I totally expected it. Its always like that when I come back. I don't mean to sound conceited but I don't know how they functioned before I came here. Most people here don't know how to do some of the most simple things or are just too lazy. I had a decent pile of notes on my desk that half of should have been able to be handled while I was gone.

It's been above freezing and raining steadily here for 2 or 3 days. The river is over the banks in several places and valley is flooded more that it usually gets in a really wet spring. I hope it breaks soon or we will have problems.

We had one pretty good snow about a month ago. That's been about it. We had a few flakes Sunday evening but it didn't stick. I seriously think about moving some day to a place where it doesn't snow. I really wouldn't miss it.

We got maybe an inch on snow last night, still barely dropping flurries but it's melting faster than it's coming down.

The nearby creeks and river are still up pretty high as well. Usually my sump pump runs like crazy until late spring then is silent until the next winter melt. It slowed down over the summer but hasn't stopped running even after adding another 30 feet to the outlet line a few months back. A couple years back my neighbor was worried about our shallow wells with the lack of snow/rain coming down to replenish the water table. I'm thinking we're ok now for a while.

FC, it's strange not hearing you have tons of snow by now.

Anna, it's good to hear the G4 is working for you. Getting away from the LOS made sense. I've used the G4 and liked it but I'm pretty much a regular General Mint guy with other cans to add variety once in a while.

I don't mind a little snow, I just don't like a ton of it. I'd never move north but I do like the cool weather too. A few hundred miles further South wouldn't be bad as far as the weather and the taxes. I'm just so tied to this are. When I learned I had relatives that lived here over two hundred years before I was born, I figured maybe it was in my bones to live here.

Waho, you just got me thinking about wells. Mine is approaching 40 years old unless they had a problem in the first sixteen which I doubt. I did a quick search to find out how long they are expected to last- 8 to 10 but they could go 15.

I almost wish I didn't get curious. It was like my septic system. It hadn't been touched at all until the broken pipe a few years back. That might have been the only time it was cleaned in all those years.

Anyway, they did say sediment shortens the life and I have a feeling mine sits right in the middle of a real strong aquifer. We had a drought maybe ten years ago and two of the houses close buy had to have wells drilled. I've always had a really strong water pressure.

Yes, you THINK that. Albeit Tucson was not a vey pleasant place, I am from hardy desert Aus Australian stock and even the hottest days did not bother me. I am a barefoot person, and I would develop calluses on my feet for the heat, but I am here to tell you, after being in the Desert for a while.... You start to miss snow. it becomes this unending season of hotness, and you get SO SICK OF CACTUSES.

OMG, my team went to a place with trees a few years ago and the first thing I did was hug one, then climb one. My team thought I was nuts, but I So Did Not Care. LOL.

Make sure therea are seasons and at least SOME native greenery is all I can say. Also, avoid Florida: mosquitos, alligators, crocodiles (PEOPLE act like this is normal) and I lost my security blanket in Florida at about age 6.

    It's an evil place: avoid.

I hear you on the well age anxiety. Mine was drilled 5 years before I moved in 6 years ago.

My neighbor and I's major concern is the township ran city water lines down our street about 7 years ago with an ordinance that when all our wells dry up we're required to tap into the city system. Sure there's some upsides to city water vs wells, but I'd much rather pump/soften/filter my own water than pay a bill for water with a bunch of treatment chemicals in it. Not to mention I'm also 10 minutes from Flint and we all know the water situation there...

Hitt, you out drank me by three. I'm a professional drinker and don't do amatuer night. All the people I know that have had DUIS\s convinced me not to drink when the police are looking for you.

It's not only the cost of buying city water but the cost of hooking up to public utilities. My mom had a septic system and I priced hooking up to the township public sewers. It was $25k just in the required permits and you still needed to get the work done. Such a racket. Then, as you say, there's Flint.

Good morning snusers. My oldest daughter is going to be moving in about a week. It's been kind of nice having her back home for a while after college. She's moving in with her boyfriend from the town where she went to college. It's about three hours away so it's not that big of a deal to visit. I feel a little bit better about it since we got her car repairs done. My youngest is home from college until the 20th. I've kind of got mixed emotions right now. I'll miss the kids but am kind of ready for them to be out on their own. I know we'll be supporting the youngest for the next 3.5 years at least while she finishes college but they have a 100% placement rate for their nursing students so I know she'll have a job when she gets out. My oldest went for acting so it's a little more complicated. She has landed a couple small things but has been waitressing the past few months. I'm not sure what she'll land for a job when she moves. The plan right now is for her and the boyfriend to live there until his lease runs out in August and then she wants to move somewhere to better pursue her acting career.
