The Wolf King (our Governor) has a silly metric to all counties to start opening up. He had a list of them today, all were the game population is larger than the human. He is expecting to get below 50 new cases per 100k population over 14 days. That is an impossibility any time soon.

PA has 47k cases with less than 3k in hospitals. Metric allows for 164k new cases across the State in a 14 day period. Over the last 8 days, the State has had over 400k new cases in ach 14 day period. With additional testing that number will climb before it drops.

I finally gave up fixing my microwave. The door handle broke at least 3 times and the last one just got too bad. I found a brand new one on CL over $100 less than anywhere else I could find. The guy bought it on a whim (his wife didn't want one) and found it was too large for the opening in their kitchen.

Anyway, I went to pick it up today and hadn't really looked in a mirror for days. I looked pretty pathetic. I've gone to the grocery store a few times but just threw a cap on and wnt in wearing a mask so I never worried about what my face looked like. I was a horror.

My beard was working on convincing me I might be able to get a job as Santa if I let it alone. I felt so much better after I got done and the two hour drive out and back made me feel like a human again.

The one thing I did realize is that I have to work on my driving to get back to feeling confident. It should be interesting riding a bike. That I haven't done since last fall.

Roth if you get that Santa gig, can you put in a good word for me for Xmas?

I’m supposed to be getting one of these for review. There’s a giveaway going on right now if you haven’t seen it.

Well, my week was not without some ups and downs. Our company decided to let go all employees that were on furlough, which included me and three of my coworkers. In total they kicked almost 3000 to the curb. Seems a bit of a knee jerk reaction to me as we haven't even started to see restrictions let up to determine what the economy will do. But I was well below the pay scale of the people who make these decisions. 20 years I spent with them and now I get to start over. I guess they are mailing out severance packages on Monday and I've got enough to survive well into 2021 before I really need to start looking. But I also don't know if I want to go back to working for the man or try something myself. I've never been my own boss before, probably end up firing myself after a couple weeks. ;) We'll see as the family is pressing me to strike out on my own but at my age the idea is a bit scary.

On the plus side, the fed money is set to hit my checking account soon. So that's a win but given my current situation it'll stay in the bank for now. Might need it for seed money. Anyway, that was my week in a nutshell. Doors close, other open and all that other horsecrap...

That’s terrible how companies treat loyal long time employees like that. I can’t imagine how hard it is to start over after that long. I’ve been with my company for 22 years but work for a small independent company. We had 13 employees but one quit and one got let go. We are functioning well with 11 and were heavy at 13 in my opinion. I hope things work out well for you.

That sucks Rebel, hopefully something good comes your way quickly!

My brother started updating his resume a few days ago. He works for a small indie game studio as the only developer/coder and they're losing both their artists soon. The guy who was there when the company started is going to teach full time at the local art college and upon hearing that the other artist put her two weeks in. My brother said art is the easiest to get people for or outsource, but he's getting prepared in case the company folds.

We're starting to see some of the plans between GM/UAW for when we go back to the plants. Stuff like closing all the common areas, restricting bathrooms to two people at a time, making us eat lunch in the car, taking temperatures/surveys when we punch in, wearing masks/gloves all day, 6ft distancing etc.

A lot of that makes sense for my old plant with 300 hourly guys, but my plant has over 5k hourly guys. There's already almost always a wait for the bathroom when 8 toilets are booked up, and we're packed weiners to buns on the line. Wearing the same mask for 8/9/12 hours straight on a 100 degree day in the summer... Sounds like torture. It sucks wearing one for 30 minutes in the grocery store.

I'm really sorry. That is horrid. I think we will be hearing more stories like this in the future.

I cannot help but say, change brings out the worst in companies. I left a job because it was, um, under the umbrella of a particular agency, my state was split into 4 "zones" so to speak and they were allowing the "oversight agencies" to "compete" to bring it down to two. I was 100% convinced my current "oversight agency" was gonna lose (I was correct.) They kept a few experienced workers to ease transitions and then fired everyone so they could train those who were new, had less experience, and could be paid less. I was like, "Yep as I predicted."

Wow, sorry to hear that Rebel, definitely sucks at the moment, however.

My last best friend, had two others, bounced around for a long time- mechanic, insurance sales, car sales, mechanic for a paving company and then repairman for generators. I think I got them all.

The generator gig he might have worked at 4 or 5 years after the pavers went out of business because the sons kept putting all the expenses on the company. The guy he worked for in the generator business evidently was an idiot. Once my buddy knew what he was doing, he started suggesting ways to improve the business, but the owner knew better.

So, at some point, he and his wife talked about it and he went out on his own at 56. His wife had a good business head and he had enough experience with his years working for someone as well as that sales experience and now at 70 he's got it made. He cleared $300k this year and that's including paying on his new Tesla SUV. If you hav a marketable skill and the will, hey, it's America.

I made it to Tucson and back today and secured one contractor. It was sad we went to the house I was hoping to avoid ever seeing it again. But no, I saw it in all its gutted, crazy glory.

Also secured one rather pleasant, intelligent and nice contractor and unloaded a 30K check upon him. Bank of America refused to cash it because it was in the name of the dude's business NOT his own. I was none to happy but we headed over to his business bank and they took the check. We were only supposed to give him half at this point but I was spiking a 104 fever and I said to the husband,"I rather deeply doubt that some OTHER bank is going to take this flimsy print out from Bank of America and immediately hand me a cashier's check for like 15K, can we just let him keep it?" We were both fine with that.

I think we will both be immensely relieved for like, what happens even if we only make fifty dollars from the sale (coincidentally what BoA would have "charged" us for the "privilege" of running our "third party" check through their veins of money, so I was more than happy that they sent us away, as we may come out of this house losing oh, I don't even dare to calculate it, but like, it will be a TON of loss, plus at least 100 dollars.

I had some white snus today and it was good, if only because I was trying to avoid coughing fits my fever went down but MAN. I am glad I stashed some Tylenol I figured it would suck.

All's well that ends well I guess.

YUP. Then we don't have to pay for two of everything (mortgage, etc.) Depending on how much we make back.... It may be helpful it may not. Will be in Douglas for a while and the husband I need a break.

Then, depending and oh my GOSH, well we will see about what is next. I'm hoping its NM and the IHS. I have more applications to do and I need to do some stuff to my resume but well, I hope something happens not to soon, but we'll see I guess. Waiting on some transcripts but I need more resumes you kinda gotta focus on the job description with Federal jobs so that is taxing. Sigh.

Yeah, I looked back a few pages but couldn't find anything. It was a strange read without the background.

I don't know if I mentioned it here but my "e" key has been sticky. Sometimes I had to really bang it, then afterward just a light touch. I was trying to get to businesses opening to get the geek guys to look at it since my old eyes had a hard time seeing the clips that held the key works in place.

Well, I guess I banged it too hard finally and it wouldn't work at all. I bit the bullet and pulled the key off, thinking it was probably dirt in there but finding it is on the board itself. Replacing that was something I wasn't prepared to do. PCs are one thing, notebooks, another.

So I searched for a program to remap the keyboard. After a couple tries I think I settled on making the "e" key my "e" and moved the "q" to that tilde key, the one never used. It's going to take some time getting used to the placement.

Uh sorry. We put about 40 k and a year's worth of work into the house and the husband's grandfather's were like carpenters and such. They gave him a set of tools and it was fairly small and told him he should be able to use those to built a house, and then they taught him VERY old techniques. It was FREAKING incredible, meticulous work, and I don't say that LIGHTLY. He's an architectural engineer but he made the house a... jewel. I kept saying "HURRY UP get it done but he gets like overfocused. I have real estate uh, "prediction" and I kept saying "WE HAVE to get that sucker sold by Christmas. He was SO CLOSE. I have pics and it was freaking AMAZING. All he had to do was paint.

The water heater exploded and it was not the husband's fault. He had just change that guagey pipe thing two years before, our water was filtered down to microns due to this set of 10 filters under the house all connected (Tucson water is GROSS.)

There is not much that guy cannot do or fix. So, yeah, he was up here for three weeks and when he went back, uh HIGH pressure hot water had cooked the house.

Even the guys who came out to demo were SO SAD. They were really good actually they saved what they could but it was very little. They were also like, "I want to know how you did that, because we don't know HOW, and we can't replace this, although we are custom builders, so I'm sorry we are going to have to, well, make it suck..

Then State Farm got ugly with us so that was no fun. The place (I had not seen it until I went to Tucson a few days ago) was GUTTED. NO floor the whole HVAC ductwork and electricity needs redone, etc. I mean, there was pretty much a shell, a bunch of debris, and most of the walls were gone etc.

We did find a nice, competent and reasonable contractor who is going to do it all which I WAS SHOCKED but I think the COVID thing they are hungry for work. This guy doesn't work for insurance companies usually but he agreed after discussion with the husband.

I saw his work and it is good, and it is SERIVICABLE. It's nothing like the husband's was but I don't think I can ask him to rebuild AGAIN he is only one human and I like him alive.

The neighbors were distraught for him we pretty much mostly lived apart for a year-ish and well, meh.

The only reason we can fix it even slightly is manufactured homes (even if affixed) don't need a bunch of permits pulled and whatnot, they fall under HUD.

I really wanted the insurance co to total it, and if they had been fair they would have. However, I guess manufactured homes are like hammers with 3 handles and 2 heads.. Ours is old, but it has a brand new ac/heat, HVAC, ROOF and we can claim it FULLY remodeled, which it will be. Not all upgraded like it WAS but eh, what can you do.

I am just gong to pretend we did not put a WASTED (mostly) 40K into it and well it will sell okay. We should still make money I think. Mainly because that area of South Tucson is being CONSUMED by like Californians, and our neighborhood is super nice. It's on an acre of land with incredible views. It has two sheds and one has electricity. Were it not for me and the husband's INTENSE hatred of like Tucson we could move back.

But that feels like defeat and I must make my way out of AZ or GO F:censored:ING insane. We moved to be near family and they all left because it sucked so bad. They had the right idea though, FLEE the state. Oh God I hope I can find work but I believe I will eventually. I have time.

I mean we can put it on the market see what offers we get. But Tucson has nothing but BAD memories from me, from the day I landed on the plane to freaking... .lately.

I do like New Mexico a bunch.
