Who thinks ECF needs to add a dislike button?

After reading many threads posted by either new members who are very inexperienced or other members who have been vaping for awhile without too much knowledge about vaping besides how to charge their devices and change coils and refill their tanks, so many inexperienced people or newer members will give unsafe advice and ridiculous recommendations to sub-ohm and cloud chase with mechs and RDAs.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like there should be a dislike option, along with a like option for every post to discourage ceratin comments and prevent other people from accepting bad advice and steer them in the right direction?

Bad advice in my opinion not only can lead to disaster and destruction and harm to someone, but will add to ammo to regulate or ban vaping.

Such a thing would make a largely friendly place in to a very hostile one in a hurry. If you don't like what this or that individual has to say, use the controls in your "settings". There is a section called "my account" and under that is "edit ignore list". I preach liberal use of the ignore list... and I practice what I preach. It helps me keep ECF friendly because I just don't see posts from folks I prefer not to see posts from and whatever they say goes unread by me and therefore can not annoy me.

As to good vs bad advice - Try to give good advice. When good advice is given respectfully, it is usually recognized as what it is and appreciated for how it was given. - As to anything you think is bad advice, respectfully disagreeing is appropriate.

I agree with six, no need for a dislike button. If we respectfully disagree with someone, it is better to quote the post and explain why.

I've been here a while and really had no true beef with anyone by doing this.

Dislike buttons would just turn the forum into a series of petty squabbles in short order IMHO.

In all seriousness, I agree somewhat to the other posters. It could make this a hostile place fast.
Maybe we just need something like stackoverflow for vape questions where you can vote things up or down... the only thing that goes in there are answers to the questions... if you offend easily, dont answer the question! lol

Seen more than a few forums devolve into a mess because of 'dislike', as well as a few blogs - typically ones using Disqus. Speaking as a new member, it's a good (and valuable) thing that ECF is so welcoming.

You make a good point, I wasn't thinking that much in to it. I wasn't thinking about rude comments or anything like that. Also thanks for the blocking tip I didn't know about that, but have no reason to use it yet.

I was thinking anonymous dislikes, but was just thinking about having it to easily pick out bad advice given, like if someone who's fresh into vaping asks how to get more TH with their protank and someone tells them to get a mech and a dripper and sub-ohm.

That's a good idea, I didn't realize it could cause a hostile environment, I was thinking more of an anonymous vote like how certain sub sections you can have anonymous polls.

Like if an OP asks...I'm new to vaping and got my first starter kit with an ego and a protank, but I want more Th any advice?

And someone replies to their increase nicotine level or get a dual coil tank or a VV device and theirs a poll to vote if it's good advice or not under their reply to help the OP decide if it's good advice.

But, probably won't work if everyone up votes for the person recommending a Nemesis.

And it's just funny.

Pro tip: everyone else can read the posts you ignore, so the bad advice stays. I prefer to not ignore, but instead respectfully make it known when advice is incorrect.

The only helpful thing for bad advice is countering with better advice. A dislike button is a personal statement, but it doesn't offer anything of substance to the conversation.

Something like that, but it would be better advice from most people here than what I've seen on yahoo answers about vaping.

But, not everyone here thinks that recommending first time vapers with little or no experience a mech mod and sub ohming is wrong and should be pointed out to prevent dangerous situations, since I got a dislike above from AZplumber.

Heh. There didn't used to be and the darn thing baffles me. I'm leery of it... It has only been there for a year or two. It doesn't function like an "up vote" to bring quality information to the top of a thread or even a search engine... It's more like a smiley face or maybe a way to communicate to others that you read something without having to actually reply... I dunno. I'm sure I use it far too sparingly or completely inappropriately more often than not. It just appeared on the forum one day with no explanation nor instructions.

Who even cares about likes and dislikes? There are enough forum members as well as veterans on here to steer people in right direction.

None of this is about being *right* or *wrong* because this isn't a test site or a contest.

Its' just a forum where people talk about stuff and try to help other people, spread news about new stuff, nifty ways to do things, etc.
And guess what? IT'S OKAY TO BE WRONG SOMETIMES.

It's been fine the way it is, since it began, and I think that will continue.

^^^ This is exactly why a dislike button is a bad idea and exactly why I posted that. A simple dislike leads to assumptions just like you assumed I don't think noobs need proper guidance. An explanation of why you disagree can not be misinterpreted. My dislike had nothing to do with noobs, it was your suggesting a dislike button.

First off no one said anything about controlling other people or their speech. Second there are other sites that are based on likes and dislikes and have been running for years like Yahoo answers. I agree that it's ok to be wrong sometimes, if someone makes a mistake or says something on accident or without fully knowing everything about it or repeating bad information they were told from someone or read somewhere else. The bad advice I was talking about like I mentioned was telling noobs to jump straight into mechanical mods and rebuilding sub-ohm coils and posting pics of their 0.1 ohm builds and saying it is safe, when someone just asks something simple like what tank would have longer lasting coils, or that they're looking for better battery life or more TH or they're looking for their first starter kit and you have 2 or 3 other members re recommending a mech mod. IMO I don't see that advice as being either right or wrong but just bad advice in general to a noob.

I didn't notice the new Simple Solutions forum. How is that better than the regular new member's forum?

I understand your point along with AZplumber about having input and explaining disagreements, and you too are right. It's just in some posts if you've noticed someone will ask for a better tank and a newer member will suggest a Nemesis and the more responsible members and veterans will advice against it or give better recommendations than a few post after you'll get other no members post +1 for the Nemesis or get a Nemesis. I think it ruins the efforts of responsible members to give good advice and recommendations and tips about safety. This thread was more of a rant than a suggestion.
