Why am I vaping at 40 -50 Watts?

Yes, I overlooked airflow. The greater your airflow, the more power it takes to keep your coil hot enough to vape.
agree,, I vape 25+/-ohms @ 28 watts normally ...on bottom air flow tanks,, just got a top air flow and it seems better at 40watts.

Airflow position seems to be the only dif in duel coil sub ohm tank,,, same juice in both

I guess my vape draw matches one respiration in time, but I'm mtl, so I dont actually respirate my vapor straight down. I just suck in , using the air I just have in my mouth I guess, but my lungs aren't breathing in at that time. Once I get a mouthful, I then use my lungs to bring it down, Either way it's like 2 seconds. I wonder if there are actually people that draw for that long, if so, they would probably get a major head rush.

Yeah I know what MTL means, but to me it just feels like there's no "oomph" even in the slightest, it's basically all harshness in cohort with severely diluted flavor, and, despite I can tame the harshness by decreasing the nic strength apropriately, it still can't hold a candle against the flavor experience that I am used to getting, the "feel" of dense wet vapor hitting my throat and trachea is still nowhere to be found either, and also I just keep craving for more nic due to the lowered nic strength of the juice. I vape at 3mg or below, depending on the size/power of my build/setup. I almost always vape on a mech mod of one type or another. My most recent coil build, that I'm vaping on as I'm typing this, is a single coil fralien at .4 ohms on a tube mech, stacked (i.e. using two batteries in series).

I wasnt debating any differences in power, flavor etc, just curious on the lenght of draw. Were you saying you inhale for 7 seconds?

No, I was saying I get seasick if I try to inhale for 7 seconds. I inhale for 2-3 seconds or less, depending on the speed of vapor production.

So basically, when people suggest that low wattage vaping is "more natural" in the particular sense that it tends to provide a closer match to smoking a normal cigarette, I almost choke to death on my cloud with laughter because I shouldn't have to explain the fact that nothing can be natural about sucking on a normal cigarette for 7 whole seconds.

Been Mouth to lung from the start. Maybe, i dunno, six or seven years or so, maybe a bit longer !?........

Tried dual coil RTA's for a bit using higher watts but wasn't my thing (too much like hard work, like trying to inflate a lilo).

I rotate a few Kayfun V4's using 29g kanthal, 2mm id, 11.5 watts, 24 mg's. I'll take two draws, each over two seconds each, in succession. First's the primer, heats up the coil, second comes the throat hit !. Great throat hit everytime. Don't get a thing from the first draw though......nothing !. Throat hit is generated purely by nicotine and there is nothing harsh about it at all. 11.5 watts doesn't create a very warm vape and allows my batteries to last longer.

Mouth to lung vaping is effortless, and i love it !.

I basically use the same rtas and 24mg nic, but use 26g wire and 23 watts. This eliminates the primer puff, as this coil hits fast from the start. You do however have to be a bit more perfect on the wicking.

I own only two RTAs, and they are identical to each other. It's the Reload RTA because I simply don't care for all the other ones, their noticeable lack in flavor production plus the fact many are finicky/leaking, or they just don't match my vaping style. I'm mainly a DL style RDA kind of guy. What you call throat hit, my throat calls purely harshness, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one who experiences it that way. I also know for a fact I'm not the only one who got told over and over and over that this just can't be right. But I need to save my throat, so that's what I'll listen to, not some people who try to be funny on the internet (not pointing any fingers here, but you can still figure out who I'm talking about, just by reading the thread...). And then there's still the thing about flavor also in addition to that. Those who claim everyone else has to like what they like can just go away, to a place where they can just sit and like themselves. Life is waa-aaaa-aaaaaaay too short to worry about that stuff.

What you call throat hit, my throat calls purely harshness,

True the vapour does have to be the right temperature to produce a throat hit, otherwise the priming draw would give me one. But, "harsh" isn't how i'd describe it, not at 11.5 watts !. There is no real heat at all. I refer to it more like a "texture" from which i can actually feel the vapour hitting my throat and is not in any way unpleasant. A good example of what i think you mean is how vapdivrr describes how he vapes. Double the watts i'm using, he creates a much warmer/hotter vapour even with 26g i think. I couldn't tolerate that kind of harsh vapour and i would describe it the exact same way you do.

It might be warmer, but is controlled by how long you hit the fire button. The higher power and lower resistance just makes a faster coil and if you just fire it a little faster then yours, it could wind up with the same heat and TH. Now I still have a lower resistance, but I just lowered to 12 watts and after the primer puff, the heat and TH is exactly the same as the first vape when the wattage is doubled, it just eliminates the primer fire if you can control the lenght of fire on the higher wattage setting, sort of how TC works. Now with your 28 or 29, I dont think you could just raise and double to try, because the thinner wire will be a bit harsher.....didnt mean to say that this method is better, it's just a way to get the coil to temp faster, but your probably use to the primer puff now, kind of like a cigar in a way I guess

I wonder which batteries would last longer. Those used at 11.5 watts with a primer draw, with my coil (1ohm) ? or those used at 23 watts with a single draw, with your coil ?.

As it is my batteries are on their last legs so couldn't say how long they'd last when new.

Its probably close , but perhaps my higher wattage would drain faster. It's like by the time my mouth hits the tip, the vapor is there and I take like a 2 second drag and release, so it's not pressed very long at all. Now I vape 2 mods at work and once I get home I dont vape those, but vape different juices from about 4 other set ups and my batteries last like 2 to 3 days average. Another thing that would help with primer speed(not that one might want to change it) is a contact coil. A 2mm contact will fire a bit faster then a spaced one

I just can't figure out why people Vape at 80 Watts +.

Is it that my Nic 5mg is too high causing harshness. I'm allergic to PG so I vape only VG with a high amount of Alcohol. Could the high Alcohol content around 10% cause harshness too.

I just started squonking again. On my Ijoy Capo I have a Vandy Maze and a Ijoy SRDA.
The Maze which is .20ohm I vape at 50w and the .13 Vandy at 40 Watts.

Just curious if it's my liquid that makes high temp vaping unpleasant.

Note: Just called the MFG and found out that the Cook's Peppermint Extract that I use is 47.5% alcohol so I'm not vaping 20% Alcohol.

the nicotine harshness you are feeling is due to the flavor more fruity and menthol flavors had tend to have more of a harshness to him then say tobacco or cream flavor it's not because you're using alcohol or the amount of milligrams you're using I'm using a 6mg of nicotine and with a fruit flavor and it's not harsh and I'm running a unregulated mechanical mod

I vape at 10 amps.
Confused as to why others vape at 15+ amps....

I'm sure you meant 10 watts. 10A is a pretty hot vape. My 10W vape is usually around 3.5 to 4 amps.

Wire gauge, air flow, and length of hit play into wattage. Heavy wire gauges take more power to reach temperature quickly. I vape at 10W (mouth to lung / low air flow) on a 28ga single coil. It's good for Mouth to Lung type hits, similar to a cigarette. Those who vape at higher wattages tend to use atomizers with a free air flow as opposed to a cigarette filter style air flow. Looser air flow cools the coil and provides cooler vapor while you are taking a hit at higher wattage with high air flow. They also vape DTL (direct to lung), take longer hits, and get much thicker plumes of vapor.

It's just two different styles of vaping.
