Why do we still call them mods?

Good question. Do you have alternatives in mind? Care to share?

:)
Not really, no. I was just pondering after finding myself referring to something straight off a mas produced production line as a mod.

Back in the day mods were stuff like Trogg's original Screwdriver & everything else was an e-cig (except e-pipes of course)

Somewhere among ecf's posts there has been endless debates about this. That is why you will see some say PV(personal vaporizer), device, ecig, etc.......Our own FDA wants and is referring to them as ENDS(Electronic Nicotine Delivery System). ugh.....me thinks they patted themselves on the back for that one......sigh....

I called and asked the FDA after 8/8 how can they call my gear an END when I don't use nicotine after a long silence she said because it delivers nicotine. I said no it doesn't I just told you that! She said she would forward it to her superiors and they will get back to me. Still waiting.

DITTO on all replies.

Like it was stated, its been debated for a few years.

I think it just became the most used term. A word that just became comfortable and didnt make people look at you like you were speaking an Alien language.

To non vape people the word vaporizer brings to mind those space shipped shaped things your parents or grandparents put next to your head when you had a cold that would put out a cloud of vapor to keep your chest clear.

The other half thinks of the medical things used for asthma or other breathing problems.

For a while I avoided using the term Mod because of the technical meaning. I would refer to them as vape "devices" battery cases...... but even I use the term MOD.

FOr the average clueless person I call it my vape thing so that they dont nod their head like a puppy and give me that empty look.

I think that vaporizer is really the most apt term. It makes vapor, some use nicotine, some dont. It makes vapor ....

Its similar to how we call the automobile a "car". Car came from the word carriage which is what everyone was used to calling a thing that took you somewhere other than walking.

We could have called the the internal combustion driven horseless carriage, but "car" was easier.

We dont call our TV's televisions much, and now they are basically monitors, but we call them TV's still.

When the vast majority of them aren't?

Yeah... I was talking to someone from 2010 about this same thing a little while back.

Not sure how People started to call Mass Produced e-Cigarettes "Mods", but somehow they did.

BTW - Here is a "Mod" you Might Remember. LOL
