Why don't we have a Kayfun (any version, originals and clones) owners group?

Can't wait to join this group. Ordered a Mutant Clone + Aerotank Giant to match last week.. hasn't even arrived in the mail yet and I just ordered the 30mm kayfun Lite clone from fasttech.

F5 F5 F5.. :(

Assuming I like the kayfun I'll likely want to get an authentic - is there much of a step up in quality from the clones to the authentic?

I got a brand new one, kayfun lite plus v2 dual airflow,I can tell this build is going to be a challenge for me!

How so? Take a toothpick, wrap six loops of 30ga kanthal, tie to the deck and wick with cotton, rayon or silica. You'll land in the vicinity of 1.5 Ohm.

And take 6 Xanax to eliminate any hand tremors, then practice cigery for a few years to get the wire to thread under the screw terminal without making a hot spot. Or maybe hire a 12 year old with small hands to do the work. Good luck and good riddance to my KFL's.

Don't throw the towel just yet, Regal. I'm 67 yo and even with extremely shaky hands can manage to coil a KfL or 3.1. You want to try a challenging one? Get an Igo W2. Those are challenging. Last time I redid mine I swore it was the last time and it might... :/

Truly, for a simple build at 1.1~1.2Ω (1.5 is reputedly the sweet spot of Kayfuns but I really prefer closer to 1.0) the toothpick is a real simple solution. For some reason they all come around 1.9 to 2.0mm in diameter, so for my target resistance, six wraps of 28ga Kanthal A1 do the trick. If you prefer to go higher in resistance —say the recommended 1.5Ω– just use 30ga. You should do a build of no less than 5~6 wraps and no more than 9~10. Otherwise you lose flavor or heat.

I just tested how long it takes to build a KFL+, including disassembly, removal of old build, wash and rebuild.

Pics following. Editing them took more time than the actual build.

AFC screw? What's that? Oh you mean the thingies you throw away after disassembling the tank for washing when new? ;)

Been there... done that. :)

Don't hesitate unless your CC is over the limit. ;) Expensive but worth it, and that's one you won't find clones of in a long time. However, the Kfs still rule flavorwise! I don't know if it's the chimney shape or what but neither the "el conejín" nor the foggies or the Aga Tn have beaten the K's in that area. They may not leak, be easier to build, hold more juice, whatever... but flavor? nah! I guess that's the reason they haven't gone the way of the Dodo bird. ;)

have 4 authentics kayfuns and absolutely love them, they definitely have a place in my heart, but I have to say this new erlk that I purchased does beat the kayfun in flavor. although it isn't a night and day difference, it is so. there are other better things about the erlk, but it will never replace my kayfuns. I know some like the kayfun at 1 to 1.2Ω which is great for mods that can fire them, but for most vv devices, that could be a touch low because a lot wont fire under 1.2. if planning on a kayfun set up with a vv device, shoot for at least 1.3 and as high as 2Ω. wire gauge is either 28 or 30g, and that really depends on the resistance and preferred wattage. if you vape close to 15 watts then 28g works good (unless your at the 2Ω range), if you prefer lower, then 30g is better suited, also coil diameters between 1.8 to 2.4mm work well. in the end it takes experimenting to find what best suits you, and that's all part of the fun, in kayfun. truly if your looking to move into a great tank system, the kayfun is it.

vapdivrr, getting ahold of my Queen of elves was an ordeal for me. I had to bugger friends in Laredo to receive it for me when Mexican customs intercepted in and denied entry, clasifying it "Electronic Cigarette Component". It got me into some heated arguments about the difference of an atomizer and a cigarette with the customs folks to no avail, so DHL kindly re-expedited it to the Texan border.

Fortunately close friends live there and I could have them keep it a few weeks for me until one came visiting her mom who was sick at the time. I'd love to get two more but frankly it's wearing.

Curiously enough, vapemail from China, enters without any hassle via regular mail. It's only couriers like FedEx, UPS, DHL or USPS Preferent Express that get intercepted. Beats me! :(

PS, I agree wholeheartedly about the Erlkönigin. It's the best Kayfun evolution I've seen. Probably par in taste but the build quality and design is non pareil. :)

Cheers.

Jorge.

sorry to hear the hassles my friend. one thing about the queen imo is , its very build specific, I mean a less then perfect build will produce a great vape but a perfect build is needed to produce an even better vape. the wicking is tricky and the difference of 5 extra strands of cotton down the channels can make a big difference but once you have it down, like anything else, it really is a dam good atty.

You are quite right about the demanding build precision of the Königin. Once you have it zeroed (coil diameter, number of wraps, wire gauge, material, type and shape of wick) you better stick to it. I've had some disaters that made me flush a full 6ml tank. OTOH, the Kayfuns are much more forgiving in that regard. You just have to keep within certain parameters, basically resistance value: 1.0 to 1.8Ω –outside that they don't work at their best. Otherwise they are quite noble, I've done twins, concentrics, verticals, tunnels... used silica, cotton braid, ekowool, even mesh and mesh-sleeved-silica. All work! Some are better but none is a throwaway. On the queenie you don't get any leeway, except a limited choice of wicking material to suit your taste.

Jorge.
