Why is there a "........." stigma associated with people who use e-cigarettes?

Former smokers are often the worst non smokers. I know my ex wife useta be awful! She would complain loudly about the smell & even go Gonzo over someone flicking a .... out of there car window... Chasing them down & reporting them for littering.

I've seen some vapers who have a holier than though attitude and talk down to/at smokers. Seems a shame.

I get some odd looks sometimes from really old ppl. I don't moon them for it though. Yet.

I find that people in public are more intrigued with what I am doing than looking atme like ad-bag. I get asked questions anytime I am smoking in public.

Only time people approach me in public is to ask for a lite when smoking... but when Im vaping in public no one notices or either Im so blind to the public due to vaping nirvana....

We are creating a bad rep ourselves.

Many many people on this forum openly admit that they would resort to violence if anyone had a problem with their vaping in public.

I was crucified on one thread for expressing my opinion that people should be polite and respectful of others when vaping in public.

Now the public perception of vaping in public is becoming a very bad one.

It's the rude people who vape that are ruining it for everyone else.

That's why. It's new, and being demonized in the press (on the dime of the government and Big Tobacco, but who takes the time to see who's paying for ads and feeding coverage), and when someone encounters their first vaper in the wild and that person blows a gigantic plume of smoke while all but daring them to say something, the result is what we're discussing.

Yes...and to add to that, Only those who are faultless have the right to pass judgment upon others. (implying that no one's faultless and that, therefore, no one has such a right to pass judgment).

Let's use the right terminology to help educate the uninformed and make the clear distinction between smoking and vaping: "vaping in public"

Regardless I'm still vaping in public. I don't care if I'm judged. I'll be very polite about it unless it's an "in your face" encounter. A person can only take so much and not just walk away though.

...it's come to my attention (through the internet and television) that using e-cigs is the sign of a "........." and that people who use them are smug about it. I wouldn't consider myself smug about it at all. I don't look down on people who still smoke real cigarettes and I don't think highly of myself because I'm using an e-cig. The main reason why I use it is to cut down on real cigarettes and hopefully improve my health and cut down on the risks of a real cigarette.

I don't think vaping is the underlying issue here. Rude, self absorbed, entitled people are everywhere. It's just a matter of respect for others that is lacking. Even if it was still allowed, I never would have lit a smoke in a room full of non smokers so I don't blow clouds in a room full of non vapers. I fly almost every week and it never fails to make me laugh how many people deserve special treatment because of some reason the rest of us don't get. Same with driving etc.

Really, I think that perception is an invention of the news cycle and media. Whenever one of the local news stations or papers does a story on vaping it features a photo or clip of someone with multiple piercings and a definite antisocial vibe about them. I'm used to it though. I'm from Missouri and whenever one of the national news organizations wants to interview someone affected by the latest natural disaster they usually head for a trailer park (Even though the tornado wiped out five nice homes near the trailer park.) and find some toothless hillbilly to feature at 05:00.

Then there's also carry over from the anti smoking crowd who are not satisfied with the fact that we aren't smoking any more. "Why can't you just quit?" And the current smokers who wish they could quit. And those that tried it and maybe vaping didn't work for them for one reason or another. There a a few of them at work. They seldom say anything, but I do perceive some malice in their looks. (Or maybe I'm just paranoid!)
