I would agree....Hence the word 'generally'. Generally, when low resistance comes up, it's either thicker wire, fancy builds or dual coils....All of which require more power.
But, yes....I'd agree with you 100%. 2-26ga, 3mm coils. 1@ .5 and 1@1 ohm....The .5 would take less power to light up. I guess....I hate these conversations. :|
I know, it can go in circles sometimes .

See that's what makes this So Difficult to Pin Down. Lots of Combinations and Permutations.

I say just put a piece of Black Electrical Tape over the mod's Screen. And just use the Up/Down Buttons until one gets a Hit they Like.

:)
Yep with a regulated mod , that's all one needs to do

How many watts does it take to get a 1 ohm coil to fire at 4 volts?

How many watts does it take to get a .5 ohm coil to fire at 4 volts?

How many watts does it take to get a .2 ohm coil to fire at 4 volts?
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Kanthal is the wire of choice for the majority of premade coils and used in a lot of RDA builds as well. Is there a reason kanthal is so popular? It would seem something like SS-316 would be more versatile since it can also be run in TC. Are there any particular benefits kanthal offers over something like SS-316?

Thanks!!
For temp control with stainless to work reliably the connections between the wire and the deck or coil head need to be solid because the range of resistance change is small. That's possible with a rebuildable deck, not so easy with the coil head designs I've seen. Using nickel in a coil head is probably easier because that metal might be less sensitive to the quality of the connections.

I also believe if you are using a tank at low watts temp conttrol is nice to play with but not necessary. I build 1.4 ohm stainless coils with 30 AWG wire and fire them at 16 watts with 150% pre heat for 0.3 seconds on an rda clone. When I switch between TC at 380Fand power mode with the power settings idential there is very little difference UNTIL the wick starts to get dry. TC makes my rda practical all the tiime. I also take a few puffs every day on my older Nautilus mini, with it's 2.1 ohm 30 AWG kanthal coil, at the same power settings. It's still an excellent vape. I don't use it more because I don't want to depend on coil heads.

This stuff is so much easier with mechs.

Wait until you try to work temp control into the picture.

that's about all I use is mechs....that's why I hate these conversations. I can do a lot of things...but electronics kill me. I can show you the scars from flashlight battery changing. It's terrible....if there's no way to get zapped, I'll show you there is, in fact, a way.

Then I sure hope on your demolition sites they kill the power before you show up.:D

My attitude with is just set to whatever when the vape seems right. Same for TC, although I do prefer to not go over 450F with that.

I'm sorry my post caused a little rift. But like I posted, It's just me and my way of vaping. I should have explained more. It may be just psychological because my first venture into regulated mods was a variable voltage mod and I found my sweet spot at 3.9 volts. As the chip progressed into variable wattage, I still adjusted my wattage towards achieving my desired voltage of 3.9 volts. My methods may be wrong or outdated but it's what keeps me going.

Because kanthal in power mode tends to feel off. On an Evolv board it feels fine but on other boards that don't track resistance it tends to feel weird since the voltage keeps changing.

I'm with you...watts do nothing but make things complicated. Whenever I used regulated mods, I adjusted until it said it was firing 4.2 volts. (Blame ProVari) I didn't care how many watts it took to do that. I'm glad I really like mechs. I'm not picky...4.2 volts is great, but so is 3.7!

I know you said generally, but we have 2 coils, both 26g @ 3mm ID, one @ .5 and one @ 1.0 ohms, which one requires more power? Well the higher resistance coil does

For two coils of same physical dimensions and we are talking strictly of the load coil, then they require the same power.

I thought I was the only one! haha.... I could care less about watts...I build all my RTAs to work around 4-4.2 volts. I don't even look at the watts when I'm setting a regulated mod. I can take all my RTAs and pop them on a mech as well and there ready to go.

As far as SS builds... I mainly MTL, single coil, kanthal just works better for me. SS coils don't fit well. I also don't use temp control. I never get dry hits and at 15w I'm not worried about it.

Watts and regulated devices actually make things easy. You dont have to build a certain resistance to get a certain power output.
